Background: The implementation of housing with support is rapidly expanding, particularly as life expectancy is increasing throughout the world. This expansion is likely to intensify in the context of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which has revealed the risks of relying primarily on nursing homes. This mixed-methods systematic review aims to: 1) explore older people’s perceptions and experiences of housing with support and 2) examine the impact of providing housing with support for older people on their quality of life. Methods: The databases Ovid Medline, Ovid Social Policy & Practice, EBSCO CINAHL, and EBSCO SOCIndex will be searched, and grey literature will also be identified. Quality assessment will be carried out using Joanna Briggs Institute’s Critical Appraisal Checklist for Qualitative Research as well as a tool from the National Institutes of Health for observational cohort studies. This review will employ convergent parallel design; as such, qualitative and quantitative findings will be synthesised separately in the initial stage of analysis. The results from the qualitative and quantitative syntheses will then be integrated in the final stage of the analysis. Conclusion: This systematic review will synthesise the evidence regarding older people’s perceptions and experiences of housing with support and the impact of providing housing with support for older people on their quality of life.

Three hundred and thirty-one older adults participated in a study designed to examine their perceptions of what constitutes a reasonable quality of life. Participants responded to an open-ended questionnaire in which they were asked to state their priorities, preferences, aspirations, and concerns about their present and future quality of life. Responses were subjected to a principal components factor analysis which yielded four factors: 1) respondents' demands for specific guarantees; 2) respondents' aspirations and expectations for future quality of life; 3) fears and anxieties; and 4) external factors presenting a threat to quality of life. These factors accounted for 15 percent, 12 percent, 9.2 percent, and 7.1 percent, respectively, of the total variance. Additionally, data obtained from in-depth interviews with thirty-seven older adults were analyzed using a qualitative approach. Contrary to stereotypic notions that elderly persons are frail, vulnerable, and resigned to deteriorating conditions of well-being in late life, the results of both the qualitative and quantitative components of the study showed the majority of respondents as having clear demands for autonomy, control, and independence in making decisions, including the decision to terminate life. Implications are discussed in terms of future research on quality of life of older adults.

Almost every woman will experience menstruation during her life. These women will not only experience the biological symptoms of menstruation, but they will also experience the social stigma surrounding menstruation. Many studies have been conducted to understand the stigma found in today’s society. These studies discuss the awareness levels of women and men regarding this stigma. Additionally, studies show that women and adolescent girls internalize this stigma and feel required to modify their behaviors to adapt to societal rules surrounding menstruation. The purpose of our research is to replicate these studies and to further explore the prevalence of and reasons for the stigma and individual perceptions surrounding the discussion of women’s menstrual cycles in college women and men. Additionally, unlike previous studies, our study will ask both women and men about how comfortable they are with discussing menstruation with a variety of groups, including their family members, members of the same or opposite sex, friends, and coworkers; their attitudes towards menstruation; and how the quality of their relationships affect their attitudes. For this study we will be using a self-reported survey with semi-structured and open-ended questions, in which both qualitative and quantitative data will be collected. We will then use this data to discern the most common reasons for stigma and discomfort, experienced by both sexes, regarding the topic of menstruation. We expect to find women are relatively comfortable discussing the topic of menstruation with other females, but become uncomfortable when males are present. We predict the majority of men are uncomfortable discussing the topic of menstruation in all scenarios, though some may be less stigmatized due to previous exposure to the topic through relationships with other women in their lives, and the quality of those relationships. Data will be collected and analyzed from January through March 2019.

Each year 40,000 women die during pregnancy and childbirth, and over 250,000 babies die in their first month of life in Nigeria. Save the Children International worked to improve the lives and health status of an estimated 435,000 mothers and their babies in Lagos and Jigawa over a period of three years through its Quality of Care (QoC) project in Nigeria. This integrated project drew on existing partnerships with national, state and global experts to strengthen essential training, improve the clinic environment including supervision and monitoring, develop and disseminate communication messages for behaviour change as well as advocate for implementation of transformative policies. A combination of document review, qualitative and quantitative data collection approaches were adopted. These data were then triangulated to respond to the objectives of the evaluation. The findings show that the project has changed the way healthcare is provided in target facilities in Jigawa and Lagos as a result of their participation on the project.

This article examines the impact religion and spirituality have on the quality of life for adult oncology patients. A diagnosis of cancer can be shocking news for many patients. Many people who have a cancer diagnosis believe that they have impending death with no hope for recovery. For some, religion and spirituality can be essential resources that assist cancer patients to cope with this diagnosis. Some sources of religion and spirituality include faith, hope, and meaning of life for an individual. Research findings support that a religious and spiritual perspective decreases depression, lowers anxiety, and promotes adherence to the treatment of cancer [1]. Findings from 18 qualitative and quantitative articles were analyzed to gather an understanding on the impact of spirituality and religion on the quality of life for oncology patients. These articles suggest that inclusion of religious and spiritual needs of oncology patients can significantly increase the quality of life for oncology patients.

Water availability in rural areas is essential to production activities and quality of life. The aim of the current study is to evaluate the key role played by water resources in rural properties as a factor for farmers' permanence in the field in Southern Brazil. The research followed a qualitative and quantitative approach, which encompassed the application of semi-structured questionnaires to family farmers living in Marmeleiro and Fontana Freda communities, in the rural area of Jaguari County, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. Based on collected data, participants have shown knowledge about aspects such as water quality and availability, as well as about the preservation of this resource. Nevertheless, it was clear that water availability is a fundamental factor for farmers to remain in the field.
