In this paper the basic residual stress problem for multilayered or multiple films on an elastic substrate is considered. The stresses may be caused by a homogeneous temperature variation or slow thermal cycling and by far field mechanical loading. The films are approximated by orthotropic membranes and the substrate is assumed to be an elastic continuum. The interfacial zone is modeled by either an ideal interface or a homogeneous shear layer. The primary interest in the paper is in examining stress concentrations or singularities near the film ends. For the two interface conditions considered, this is done by varying the film/substrate contact angle. Also studied are strain energy release rate for the propagation of an interfacial crack and the direction and the magnitude of the maximum cleavage stress for a possible crack initiation in the substrate. The basic modeling and analysis are considered in Part I. Part II of the paper is devoted to the presentation and discussion of the results.

The designs of automotive suspension system are aiming to avoid vibration generated by road condition interference to the driver. This final project is about a quarter car modeling with simulation modeling and analysis of Two-Mass modeling. Both existing and new modeling are being compared with additional spring in the sprung mass system. MATLAB program is developed to analyze using a state space model. The program developed here can be used for analyzing models of cars and vehicles with 2DOF. The quarter car modelling is basically a mass spring damping system with the car serving as the mass, the suspension coil as the spring, and the shock absorber as the damper. The existing modeling is well-known model for simulating vehicle suspension performance. The spring performs the role of supporting the static weight of the vehicle while the damper helps in dissipating the vibrational energy and limiting the input from the road that is transmitted to the vehicle. The performance of modified modelling by adding extra spring in the sprung mass system provides more comfort to the driver. Later on this project there will be comparison graphic which the output is resulting on the higher level of damping system efficiency that leads to the riding quality.

The Temple

This paper presents a first approximation of the seismic vulnerability of a sixteenth century building which is part of the historical center of Morelia, Mexico. The city was declared World Heritage by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in 1991. The modeling and analysis of the building was carried out using a three-dimensional elastic tetrahedral finite elements model which was subjected to probabilistic seismic demands with recurrences of 500 yrs and 1000 yrs in addition to real seismic records. The model was able to correctly identify cracking pattern in different parts of the temple due to gravitational forces. High seismic vulnerability of the arched window and the walls of the middle part of the bell tower of the temple was indicated by the seismic analysis of the model.
