Pleurospermum austriacum (Apiaceae) is reported from the Bistrica River basin in the Sar Mountains as a new native species in the flora of the Republic of Macedonia. This is also the first report of the genus Pleurospermum in the country?s flora.

The Western Balkans are an important hotspot of caddisfly diversity in Europe, with several microscale endemics, many of which were discovered during the recent years. The genus Potamophylax Wallengren, 1891 likely originated and diversified in Europe, with the Balkan Peninsula being one of the most important diversity hotspots. In this paper, we describe the new species Potamophylax coronavirus sp. n. from Bjeshkët e Nemuna National Park in the Republic of Kosovo. The new species belongs to the Potamophylax winneguthi species group and is morphologically most similar to Potamophylax juliani Kumanski, 1999, currently known only from Bulgaria and Potamophylax winneguthi Klapalek, 1902, known from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. The male of the new species differs from its most similar congeners mainly in exhibiting: (1) elongated subrectangular superior appendages in lateral view; (2) hardly acuminate, almost rounded apex of intermediate appendages; (3) differently shaped, irregular and higher inferior appendages; (4) narrow spinate area, roughly rectangular in dorsal view, slightly wider at the base and (5) different paramere shape and/or spine pattern. The new species also differs by its considerably smaller size and association with open, high altitude eucrenal zones. The uncorrected interspecific pairwise distance between P. coronavirus and other species of the P. winneguthi species group is on par with those amongst other recognised species in the group, as well as with the yet ambiguously identified taxa from the Sharr, Rila and Bajgorë Mountains. The new species is most probably a microendemic of Bjeshkët e Nemuna, thus highlighting further this area as an important hotspot of caddisfly biodiversity in Europe.

A new species of Hydraena Kugelann, H. kucinici (Coleoptera: Hydraenidae), is described from the Republic of Macedonia. Taxonomic and faunistic notes on two closely related species, H. bosnica Apfelbeck and H. leonhardi Breit, are provided.

A new species, Duvalius karaormanicus sp. n., in the subgenus Euduvalius, is described from the type locality: Mlečnik cave in the Karaorman Mountain in the south-western part of the Republic of Macedonia. This is the second cave-dwelling Duvalius and the sixth representative of the genus so far recorded from the Republic of Macedonia. Based on its diagnostic characters, the new species is found to be related to the species in the “gogalai” and “petroclzilosi” groups. D. karaormanicus sp. n. occupies an intermediate position between the species from these two groups and is therefore placed in a separate “karaormanicus” species group.

AbstractAllothrombium clavatum sp. n. with reduced inner claw of tarus III, one seta on coxa II, clavate dorsal idiosomal setae and 3-lobed posterior margin of scutum, collected as ectoparasite of an undetermined aphid, is described and illustrated from the central part of Montenegro (Balkan Peninsula). A key to world species of Allothrombium (larva) is presented.

A new species of ant-loving cricket, Myrmecophilus balcanicus sp. n., is described and illustrated based on individuals collected in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM). It’s habitat is described. The species belongs to the subgenus Myrmecophilus Berthold, 1827. Myrmecophilus zorae Karaman, 1963 is recognized as a junior synonym of Myrmecophilus hirticaudus Fischer von Waldheim, 1846.

Lowland intermittent ponds, although biologically important, are poorly studied water habitats. During the analyses of the material taken from lowland pond in Pelagonia Valley, and Vitachevo, Republic of North Macedonia, the diatom Sellaphora pelagonica sp. nov. was recorded and described based on light and scanning electron microscopy. The species is characterized by a strictly linear valve outline with parallel to slightly concave margins and broadly rounded ends, 15.0–40.0 µm long and 5.0–7.0 µm wide. These features, together with raphe structure and areolar shape are compared with several similar taxa currently ascribed to Sellaphora.

Tettigonia balcanica, sp. n., discovered in the mountainous regions of the Central, Western and North Balkan Peninsula, is described in this paper. This species has many similarities with T. silana and T. cantans. However, it differs by the song and some morphological characters. Its range differs from that of T. cantans, with which it has been confused so far, but the border between their ranges has yet to be specified.

The luteitarsis species group of the aphidophagous genus Pipiza Fallén is defined as a monophyletic unit and the European species of this group are revised. Based on material from Serbia found at two lowland localities, P. luteibarba n. sp. is described. This species is closely related to P. luteitarsis Zetterstedt and P. accola Violovitsh. A key for the West Palaearctic species of the Pipiza luteitarsis species group is provided and records of all species from the Balkan Peninsula are presented. The distribution of the new species is discussed and conservation implications considered.

A new coral species, Acropora rongelapensis, from the northern central Pacific Ocean is described. On present records, this species appears to be endemic to the Republic of the Marshall Islands. Distinguishing features of the species include sub-flattened branches with widely separated radial corallites born laterally. Diagnostic characters of the new species place it within the Acropora loripes group.
