The study included 724 crossbred cows (Local × Holstein Friesian) from 9 dairy farms of Sylhet district from July 2013 to June 2014 to determine the effect of herd, season, and days in milk in milk urea nitrogen and the effect of milk production and composition on milk urea nitrogen. According to the season, milk samples were divided into two groups: wet season (June - October) and dry season (November - February). Days in milk (DIM) were grouped into two lactation stages: Lactation 1 (?100 days in milk) and Lactation 2 (?100 days in milk). Milk urea nitrogen was grouped into five categories by increments of 5 mg/dl, started with those less than 10 mg/dl and finishing with concentration greater than 25 mg/dl. The daily milk yield was 6.78 kg ranged from 2.00 to 18.00 kg. The mean of milk urea nitrogen (MUN) concentration was 14.58 mg/dl. Mean values for milk fat and protein contents were 3.74 % and 3.72 %. Among the 9 herds, the highest content of milk urea (MU) was 16.37 mg/dl which was found in herd 2 and the second highest estimation of MU content were in herd 1, 3, 6 and 9 (15.58, 15.51, 15.12 and 14.45 mg/dl, respectively). In the district of Sylhet, the lowest MU content was estimated in herd 4, 5, 7 and 8 (13.59, 13.48, 13.16 and 13.60 mg/dl, respectively). Difference of MUN concentration was not significant between the dry and wet season. The MUN concentrations were 14.82 mg/dl and 14.90 mg/dl in dry and wet season respectively. The concentration of MUN in Lactation 1 was 13.61 mg/dl and in Lactation 2 was 16.26 mg/dl. Milk fat (%) were 3.56, 3.77, 3.64, 4.15 and 3.66 when MUN concentration were ?10.00, 10.01- 15.00, 15.01-20.00, 20.01-25.00 and ?24.01 mg/dl respectively. Daily milk yield did not increase with the increase of MUN concentration. Milk yield were 6.37, 7.21, 6.23, 7.31 and 7.00 Kg/d while MUN concentration were ?10.00, 10.01-15.00, 15.01-20.00, 20.01-25.00 and ?25.01 mg/dl. It may be concluded that herd category and lactation stage influence the milk urea nitrogen concentration of crossbred dairy cows in the Sylhet district.Res. Agric., Livest. The genetic and phenotypic relationship between somatic cell score (SCS) and milk production has been reported as both negative, positive, whereas phenotypic correlations have been mainly negative (Mrode and Swanson 1996). The aim of the present study is to investigate the variation in associations of test-day SCS with daily milk yield (DY) in six genetic groups of Holstein- Friesian (HF) and Native Hungarian Breed (NHB).

The purpose of our Study was to determine if variation in milk yield at later Stages of lactation can be explained by expressions of early lactation somatic cell score (SCS) and if the prediction of future yield within lactation can be improved by including SCS among the predictors. Three data sets (n >600.000 each) were: milk yield with sample days near 20, 50 and 140. Stepwise regression was used requiring F statistic (P < .01) for any SCS variable to stay in the model. Separate analyses were run for 12 combinations of four seasons and first three parities for each data set. Selection of SCS variables was not consistent across seasons or parities. Coefficients of determination (R2) ranged from 54 to 74% with higher values for higher days in milk (DIM) and earlier lactations. The inclusion of SCS expressions in the prediction equations improved R2 by < 1% . SCS was associated with milk yield on sample day, but the association was not strong enough to improve the prediction of future yield when other expressions of milk yield were taken into account.

SummaryThe Nublang is a unique dual-purpose breed ofBos indicuscattle found in Bhutan. They have been crossed with Mithun (Bos frontalis) andBos taurusbreeds in an effort to improve milk production leading to a decline in the population of purebred Nublang. An alternative to crossbreeding would be the genetic improvement of milk yield within purebred Nublang, thus allowing conservation and sustainable utilization of the pure breed. It is important to measure the genetic variability (heritability) of milk yield to assess the potential for genetic improvement within Nublang. Therefore this study estimated phenotypic and genetic parameters of milk yield using 2 052 test day milk yields from 66 cows recorded from 1997 to 2013 in the National Nublang Farm, Tashiyangphu. The average daily milk yield (DMY) was 2.12 ± 0.7 litres (N 2 052, range: 0.3–5.0 L, CV: 34 percent). Parity, month in milk and year all had a significant effect on DMY (P&lt; 0.05). The average lactation milk yield (LMY) was 519.2 ± 151 L (N: 261, range: 115–881.7, CV: 29.1 percent) and average lactation length was 239 days. LMY was significantly influenced by parity (P&lt; 0.05) and season of calving. The heritability of DMY and LMY was 0.22 ± 0.16 and 0.13 ± 0.20, respectively. The repeatability estimates were 0.45 ± 0.05 and 0.49 ± 0.08 for DMY and LMY, respectively. Overall the heritability and repeatability estimates of milk yields indicate potential for genetic improvement of milk yield in Nublang cattle through selection. However, it is recommended that a larger dataset is generated to enable more precise estimates of genetic parameters.

The results of the research on the influence of genetic factors on milk productivity and quality composition of milk in the cows at the state farm “Hontarivka” of the Institute of Animal Science, NAAS, Kharkiv region have been given in the article. According to the analysis of variance the factor “line” significantly influenced all indicators of daily milk yields (р < 0,001). However, the degree of the influence of this factor was not high. The factor “line” had the greatest effect on the content of protein in milk – 2.41% and it had the least influence on the somatic cell count in milk. When studying the average physical and chemical values of milk, it was found that the highest average daily milk yield was in the cows of the Hanover line (20.4 kg) and the lowest – in the cows of the Cavaler and Chiff lines (19.6 kg). The cows of Bella line had the best performance as for the content of fat in milk – 4.31%, while the percentage of fat in the milk of Chiff line cows was only 3.98%. The cows of Elevation line had the maximum protein content in milk (3.28%), while the cows of Hanover line had a minimum content of protein in milk – 2.96%. The milk of the animals differed by the somatic cell count, the average content of which varied from 314 000/ cm3 in the milk of cows of the Bell line to 530 000/ cm3 in the animals of the Hanover line. Negative values of the coefficients of the correlation of daily milk yields with the content of fat (–0.225), protein (–0.305), the somatic cell count in milk (–0.134) were obtained. The positive relationship was revealed between the content of fat and protein in milk (+0.282). The low positive connection was also detected between the somatic cell count and the content of protein (+0.061) and the connection with the percentage of fat in milk was lower (+0.021). The revealed dependencies have indicated that the selection aimed at the increase in milk yield should take into consideration the content of fat and protein in milk. However, it does not exert a negative influence on such an indicator of milk quality as the somatic cell count. By the results of the analysis of variance, it has been found that the factor “sire’ significantly influenced the daily milk yield, the content of fat and protein, the number of somatic cells in the milk of their daughters (р < 0.001). Due to the effect of this factor on the daily milk yields the following results were obtained: milk yield – 2.11%, content of fat – 4.21%, the content of protein – 8.2%, somatic cell count – 1.14%. When comparing the average values of the parameters under investigation it has been found that the daily milk yields of some bulls ‘daughters varied from 18.9 kg to 21.2 kg of milk. The daughters of the bull K. Stallion 50750432 were the most productive by the milk yields (p < 0.001), they exceeded by 6.5 – 12.2% the daughters of the bull Chapman 0347903595, Eldorado 579136891, Dante 580024972 and Besson 393035302. As for the content of fat in milk the differences between the best and the worst parameters of the daughters of the bulls under investigation were 0.39%. In this case, the daughters of the sire Benjamin 7866444 significantly exceeded (p < 0.001) the daughters of the sires Besson 393035302 and Eldorado 579136891 by the above parameter. The daughters of the bulls B. R. Harmoni 9498163 and Prento 1402472395 were the best by the content of protein.in milk, they exceeded the daughters of the bulls Belissar 365235897 and Chapman 0347903595 by 0.27–0.35% (р < 0,001). The milk of the daughters of the above bulls was different by the somatic cell count. The average value of this parameter varied from 288 000/ cm3 in the milk of the daughters of Chapman 0347903595 to 530 000/ cm3 in the daughters of Belissar 365235897. The difference between all minimum and maximum average parameters was highly probable (P < 0.001). If we consider the number of cases of diagnosis of mastitis in the daughters of different bulls, then it was proportional to the average values of the somatic cell count in the milk. The incidence of mastitis among the cows ranged from 11.6 ± 2.71% in the daughters of the bull Chapman 0347903595 to 22 ± 4.16% in the daughters of Belissar 365235897. It should be noted that in accordance with the above data the difference between the parameters of the physical and chemical properties of milk and the incidence of mastitis obtained in the cows of different lines was less than that in the daughters of different sires. Therefore, it is advisable to make the assessment and selection by some sires rather than by their lineage.
