Our goal is to capture what the different instances of Gen/Nom and Gen/Acc have in common semantically while still respecting the multiplicity of factors involved and not predicting more uniformity than is actually found. Our main idea is to treat Gen Neg and Gen Int as a “diathesis shift”, a “demotion” into a noncanonical subject or object position, semantically of type (e,t), thereby accounting for “decreased individuation/ referentiality”.

ABSTRACT This article explains the result of Sa’Unine String Orchestra as one of Indonesian orchestras in popular culture. Main idea of this research is to uncover and describe the characteristic, func- tion, and role of Sa’Unine String Orchestra within the popular culture in Indonesia. This research used qualitative method with ethnographical approaches to identify all facts that discovered during research. The conclusions of this research show that Sa’Unine String Orchestra moves in two ways, there are; the idealism which had a vision to create a real Indonesian string orchestra and a part of music industry. At the end, these two ways are connected to each other because of the earnings of those. Music industry becomes a support factor which create the idealism of Sa’Unine String Or- chestra to be an Indonesian String Orchestra. Keywords: String Orchestra, Music, Popular Culture.

To be a debugger is a good thing! Since the very beginning of the programming activity, debuggers are the most important and widely used tools after editors and compilers; we completely recognize their importance for software development and testing. Debuggers work at machine level, after the compilation of the source program; they deal with assembly, or binary-code, and are mainly data structure inspectors. ALMA is a program animator based on its abstract representation. The main idea is to show the algorithm being implemented by the program, independently from the language used to implement it. To say that ALMA is a debugger, with no value added, is not true! ALMA is a source code inspector but it deals with programming concepts instead of machine code. This makes possible to understand the source program at a conceptual level, and not only to fix run time errors. In this paper we compare our visualizer/animator system, ALMA, with one of the most well-known and used debuggers, the graphical version of GDB, the DDD program. The aim of the paper is twofold: the immediate objective is to prove that ALMA provides new features that are not usually offered by debuggers; the main contribution is to recall the concepts of debugger and animator, and clarify the role of both tools in the field of program understanding, or program comprehension. .

The main idea of this work was to study gender representations in the English “Ballad of Tam Lin”, the Russian fairy tale “Finist the Bright Falcon” and the Turkish tale “Patience-Stone” through the analysis of language units with implicit gender semantics. These folklore narratives have important similarities featuring the female protagonist as the main plot driver and possessor of cultural wisdom. They follow the “female savior” scenario, depicting women as decisive and challenging the traditional role of a decorative victim.

Abstract This paper examines the language used by careers services in UK universities. Using a combination of critical discourse analysis and corpus linguistics methods and tools, the analysis of 2.6 million words collected from 58 UK university websites shows that the services highlight the quantity and variety of resources and assistance offered to Higher Education (HE) students. In addition, the close analysis of linguistic data brings to light a commonly used semantic pattern where the services act as the enablers of the students’ self-beneficiary actions. The main idea communicated in these webpages is that if HE students want to succeed in the graduate job market they need to prepare for the world of work, follow instructions and develop their employability. This course of action is presented by UK universities as natural or common sense. The interpretation and evaluation of linguistic patterns that emerge from the corpus-based analysis challenges the notion of employability and its association with the idea of ‘empowering’ young people to successfully compete in the graduate job market.

The article considers the role of the ideas of linguistic philosophy in the context of the anthropological turn of culture that happened in the middle of the 20th century. Culture has constantly been developing on the horizon of man, and all its initiations have always met at the point of “life of man”, which is impossible without language as an essential anthropological attribute of man. The purports of linguistic philosophy (ordinary language philosophy) are relevant as never before. The study presented is based on the phenomenology of Nietzsche’s ideas of returning a new European thought to the origins of modern culture –the idea of a sovereign individual, which is determined by power over himself and his destiny, the ideas of the representatives and founders of linguistic philosophy, the slogan by I. Kant “Sapere aude!” (“Dare to think for yourself!”), on the historical excursus concerning the origin of the term “anthropological turn”. The anthropological turn in the culture of the 20th century together with the purports of linguistic philosophy brought back and developed further the main idea of new European culture – the idea of the self-worth of life, individuality, and freedom. These events gave a new value meaning to this idea.

The article investigates linguistic features in program of presidential candidate S. Tihipko. Communicative roles of a political figure, implemented in program, identified and analyzed; language, representing these roles, is emphasized. The purpose of the article is to define the language features of program by S. Tihipko, candidate for President of Ukraine (based on 2010 presidential election of Ukraine information). It found that the image of a politician is an integral part in modern politics, and the so-called communicative image is a special consideration. One of his manifestations is the communicative role. Namely, the ability of a politician «to play» (to explain, to describe, to convey an idea, to idealize himself) in public. Because of that the phenomenon of communicative image is not well researched, there is not consensus on the definition of communicative role. In our survey we use O. Chorna’s classification, which distinguishes 16 communicative roles of a political leader, each of them has its own verbalizers and is characterized by a number of manipulative strategies. It was revealed, that features in program of 2010 presidential candidate S. Tihipko, the communicative role of «Competent Leader» is dominating. Vivid objectivators are: «I am the statements», perfect verbs to indicate future actions (analytical form of the future tense), verbs with the meaning of effectiveness, efficiency. The main image-creating communicative strategies are: appealing to basic needs (life, health, safety, peace); appealing to family values; accumulation of problems that implies future changes; a strategy of inclusive, unity with the people. Among figurative appeals, metaphors attract attention. Distinctive of the candidate's election program was the use of several interconnected communicative roles (Competent Leader, Responsible, Unity Leader and Believer). The political tagline of S. Tihipko is analyzed, on which the main idea of his election campaign is concentrated. Dominant communicative role of S. Tihipko «Competent Leader» represents the candidate as a worthy head of state, coordinator of all political processes, emphasizes his professionalism, determination, responsibility. S. Tihipko's election program appeals to both the minds of Ukrainian citizens and emotions. Exactly, the latter are drawn to the figurative references used in the text of the political agenda. The prospect of further research is to trace the linguistic features of the political programs of other well-known Ukrainian politicians, as well as to compare the communicative roles played and the linguistic means used to design them.

The construction of the zone of proximal development (ZPD) in the context of teaching activity is discussed in the paper.ZPD is compared and contrasted with the concept of scaffolding as introduced by Jerome Bruner. In the context of its potential for operationalisation in the form of teacher activities, the author examines key ZPD content given by Lev Vygotsky in terms of the complex interaction of spontaneous (everyday) concepts formed prior to the beginning of school education with scientific (theoretical) concepts formed during schooling. Vygotsky’s main idea about the leading role of scientific concepts in the restructuring of previously formed spontaneous concepts, as well as in the development of the child’s holistic thinking, leads to the conclusion that it is possible also to directly influence the spontaneous formation concepts change through the organisation of collectively distributed forms of educational activity and in a polylogue based the Socratic method. The leading psychological processes, which ensure the development of spontaneous concepts through their greater generalisation and awareness, comprise the processes of exteriorisation of spontaneous concepts, reflection and subsequent interiorisation of a collectively constructed concept. Therefore, the activities of teaching in constructing a ZPD include providing conditions for the distribution of individual operations in the course of a joint learning action and facilitating a polylogue to ensure the effective functioning of these psychological processes in the course of specifically organised learning activities.

The main idea of this paper is that innovation is contributing to the efficiency and sustainability of investment. The main question is how to measure and assess efficiency of investment in innovation for the project benefit. The main objectives of this paper are: a) to analyse the concept and theoretical models of innovation, and b) to establish the criteria and select model for further assessing the efficiency of investment in innovation project. The research was based on analytical and expert methods and included theoretical analysis of literature sources, analytical, expert and comparison analysis. This paper discusses the definition of innovation of different authors, as well as the role of innovation for the efficiency of investment, and defines various criteria for measuring the efficiency of investment in innovation project. Paper suggests these criteria allocated to five groups related to product, process, finance, market and management. The comparison of three models (CBA, DEA and MCA) presented in this paper concluded that all three models in principle are suitable for assessing efficiency of investment in innovation project. However, the management aspect, which is hardly measurable but important in innovation efficiency performance analysis, suggests proceeding further modelling with MCA using it as complement to CBA.

Leaf senescence is an important factor that affects crop yield traits and is regulated by various factors. Here, we propose the photo–carbon imbalance hypothesis to explain the mechanism of rice leaf senescence. The main idea of this hypothesis is that carbon assimilation decreases faster than the absorption of light energy in photosynthesis during the late stages of rice growth, which ultimately results in leaf senescence. Our results indicate that endogenous ascorbic acid (Asc) plays an important role in leaf senescence by affecting the expression of senescence genes, thereby influencing photosynthetic capacity and consequently grain yield. The effects of exogenous Asc and methyl jasmonate (MeJA) on photosynthetic capability implied that the balance between photoreaction and carbon assimilation is regulated by exogenous antioxidants or accelerators of senescence. The results of the shading treatments indicated that shading will mitigate the photo–carbon imbalance and improve photosynthetic capacity, resulting in increased yields. Increasing antioxidant concentrations can enhance the reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging capacity, whereas shading reduces excess light energy, which may help to restore the photo–carbon balance.

Theorists of language acquisition have long debated the means by which children learn the argument structure of verbs (e.g. Bowerman, 1974, 1990; Pinker, 1984, 1989; Tomasello, 1992). Central to this controversy has been the possible role of verb semantics, especially in learning which verbs undergo dative-shift alternation in languages like English. The learning problem is somewhat simplified in Bantu double object constructions, where all applicative verbs show the same order of postverbal objects. However, Bantu languages differ as to what that order is, some placing the benefactive argument first, and others placing the animate argument first. Learning the language-specific word-order restrictions on Bantu double object applicative constructions is therefore more akin to setting a parameter (cf. Hyams, 1986). This study examined 100 three- to eight-year-old children's knowledge of word order restrictions in Sesotho double object applicatives. Performance on forced choice elicited production tasks found that four-year-olds showed evidence of rule learning, although eight-year-olds had not yet attained adult levels of performance. Further investigation found lexical construction effects for three-year-olds. These findings suggest that learning the argument structure of verbs, even when lexical semantics is not involved, may be more sensitive to lexical construction effects than previously thought.
