AbstractThe topic of this article is the Norwegian concept of “friluftsliv” (outdoor life), used as a pedagogical tool to support personal growth. While supporting personal growth appears to be a central pedagogical strategy within Anglo-American and British youth expeditions and adventure programming, this does not appear to be case in the Norwegian outdoor tradition. My research question is: Do Norwegian Outdoor Education students experience a learning outcome related to personal growth, and to their abilities as leaders/mentors, during ski expeditions? I have collected data through a three-year period, after three ski expeditions with Outdoor Education students from an outdoor bachelor-programme at Telemark University College.The students have given written answers to questions regarding personal growth in which several informants’ express thoughts about experiences related to “self” and “identity”. They reflect upon experiences related to “mastering” and “performing”, to acceptance of their own strengths and weaknesses, and about developing self-confidence. They also reflect upon learning outcomes related to interpersonal relations and abilities, self-control, communication and caregiving. The informants have experienced, as leaders/mentors, that it is important to be able to, to “read” situations, to make good assessments of the situations, and to make good decisions related to the situations. As a follow up to this, the informants highlight the importance of being aware of each individual in the group, the importance of encouragement, being positive and caregiving. This study has shown that ski expeditions in “a Norwegian tradition” may have a potential when it comes to encouraging reflections related to personal growth and leadership abilities. Hopefully this study can contribute to increased awareness of the pedagogical potential, for personal growth, within the Norwegian concept of “friluftsliv”pedagogy?    Key words: Educational expeditions, Adventure programming, Outdoor educa-tion and Personal growthSammendragArtikkelen handler om friluftsliv brukt pedagogisk med tanke på personlig utvikling. Bakgrunnen er en undring rundt hvorfor temaet personlig utvikling, som står så sentralt i britisk og angloamerikansk pedagogisk friluftslivs-tradisjon, ikke er viet større plass i norsk friluftslivspedagogisk tradisjon. Problemstillingen har vært: Opplever norske bachelorstudenter i friluftsliv at de lærer noe om seg selv og sine egenskaper som ledere under lange ferder i vinterfjellet? Datainnsamlingen har foregått over tre år, i etterkant av tre lange vinterferder med tjuefem 3. års studenter ved Høgskolen i Telemark. Studentene har svart skriftlig på spørsmål knyttet til personlig utvikling. Flere av dem gir uttrykk for en opplevelse av å ha gjort seg erfaringer knyttet til selvbilde/identitet som kan koples til personlige utvikling. Informantene reflekterer bl.a. over opplevelser knyttet til det å mestre og prestere, det å akseptere egne styrker og svakheter, samt det å utvikle troen på seg selv, også i lederrollen. I tillegg reflekteres det over opplevelser av læring knyttet til mellommenneskelig ferdigheter, selvkontroll og kommunikasjon, samt mellommenneskelig forhold knyttet til utøvelsen av lederskap og over omsorgsoppgaver lederskapet innebærer. Opplevelser av læring knyttet til det å ha overblikk, lese situasjoner, gjøre vurderinger og treffe nødvendig tiltak, er også gjenstand for refleksjon. I forlengelsen av dette reflekteres det over viktigheten av å ha fornemme den enkelte, det å oppmuntre, være positiv og gi omsorg. Studien har vist at lange vinterferder, i en norsk tradisjon, har et potensiale til å utløse refleksjoner knyttet til personlig utvikling og ledelse. Kanskje kan denne studien øke bevisstheten rundt de pedagogiske mulighetene som ligger i menneskers møter med andre mennesker i natur?Nøkkelord: Friluftsliv

Abstract Introduction Bedouin women in Israel confront a challenging circumstance between their traditional patriarchal society and transition to modernity. In terms of reproductive health, they face grave disparities as women, pregnant women and mothers. In this article we aim to understand the challenges of Bedouin women who work as mediators in the promotion of Bedouin women’s perinatal health. We explore their challenges with the dual and often conflictual role as health peer-instructors-mediators in mother-and-child clinics, and also as members of a Bedouin community, embodying a status as women, mothers, and family caretakers. Drawn upon a feminist interpretative framework, the article describes their challenges in matters of perinatal health. Our research question is: how do women who traditionally suffer from blatant gender inequality utilize health-promotion work to navigate and empower themselves and other Bedouin women. Methods Based on an interpretive feminist framework, we performed narrative analysis on eleven in-depth interviews with health mediators who worked in a project in the Negev area of Israel. The article qualitatively analyses the ways in which Bedouin women mediators narrate their challenging situations. Results This article shows how difficult health mediators’ task may be for women with restricted education who struggle for autonomy and better social and maternal status. Through their praxis, women mediators develop a critical perspective without risking their commitments as women who are committed to their work as well as their society, communities, and families. These health mediators navigate their ways between the demands of their employer (the Israeli national mother and child health services) and their patriarchal Bedouin society. While avoiding open conflictual confrontations with both hegemonic powers, they also develop self-confidence and a critical and active approach. Conclusions The article shows the ways by which the mediator’s activity involved in perinatal health-promotion may utilize modern perinatal medical knowledge to increase women’s awareness and autonomy over their pregnant bodies and their role as caregivers. We hope our results will be applicable for other women as well, especially for women who belong to other traditional and patriarchal societies.

The search for ways to increase the efficiency of educational and professional activities of students during the period of study at a military university remains relevant at present. The provision of optimal methods for the students’ professional competencies formation considering their personality dimensions at the shortage of study time has particular importance. The subject of the research is the special aspects of self-adjustment of cadets with different performance levels. The study aims at identifying the features of voluntary self-adjustment and personal characteristics of cadets with different academic performance levels in technical disciplines at a military university. The authors determined the theoretical approaches to the study of self-adjustment as personal property, mental state, and conditions for the successful activity. The paper includes the systematization of the ideas of the self-adjustment role in the process of educational and professional activity. The authors theoretically substantiate the necessity of considering the peculiarities of self-adjustment of cadets of a military higher education institution manifested in the subjective focus on particular phenomena. The paper presents data on the respondents, which includes ninety-one first-year cadets of Novosibirsk Military Institute. The authors substantiate the division of respondents into groups with high and low levels of academic performance. The study identified special aspects of self-control of military university cadets with different levels of academic performance manifested in the orientation of voluntary self-adjustment. The authors determined the features of voluntary self-adjustment of cadets with a high level of academic performance manifested in the presence of the pronounced perseverance in educational activities, friendliness towards fellow students, and the pronounced cognitive need; identified features of voluntary self-adjustment of cadets with a low level of academic performance manifested in the lack of self-control and critical assessment of actions, ignoring their mistakes, and the desire to dominate in interpersonal relations.

Career professionals who serve as adjunct faculty at the university level are expected to engage in continual research and publishing to maintain their status as adjunct (part-time) faculty, to be considered for potential advancement, and to qualify for additional compensation.  One way of meeting this objective is to participate in online collaborative research projects benefiting from a set of multiple lenses, multiple insights, and a multitude of considerations in regard to design, methodology, data interpretations, and broader reaching implications.  A narrative inquiry approach was applied to gain an in-depth understanding of the experiences of adjunct faculty working in online collaborative research teams. Data was gathered through phone interviews where adjunct faculty shared their personal experiences and reflections about working as collaborative researchers in an online environment. Using an inductive process, themes were drawn from the responses of the participants to address the research question. The dominant themes found were organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and personal growth and development. The results of the study led to recommendations for supporting adjunct faculty in online collaborative research for building a sense of scholarly community and expanding opportunities for personal professional growth.

In the modern world, the yoga plays a vital role in human life. To realise the truth and meaning of life, one has to practice yogic discipline in everyday living. The human body is made up of five elements such as akash, air, fire, water and earth. An air plays a very important role to survive by providing life energy. Everyday practice of pranayama would help in regulating respiratory system (Breathing exercise) as well as circulatory system. The physical exercises regulate the circulation of blood, heat, air in the body. The practice of asana would help in bringing flexibility in our muscular system so as to enhance the meditation process. The practice of meditation gives peace of mind and improves integirity. The practice of yoga will improve self-confidence, self-control, speaking truth, tolerance and social virtues. Each and every individual should practice yoga, asanas, meditation and do self-analysis exercises such as analysis of thoughts, moralisation of desires, nutralisation of anger and eradication of worries. The article provides a theoretical analysis of the phenomenon of «personal maturity». Personal maturity is defined as a dynamic process of learning new values, making responsible choices, unconditional acceptance of other people, objective awareness of the normative-values image of oneself, the ability to reflect personal qualities, one’s own actions, and the ability for moral self-control of interactions. There are presented a diagnostic method and empirical results of the study. The empirical research was being conducted with authored method of N. Vinnyk. For that the Y. Gilbuh personal maturity questionnaire has been modified and tested. The method consists of five scales: achievement motivation, attitudes towards one’s «I» (the «I» − concept), sense of civic duty, life attitude, the ability for psychological proximity with another person. It was stated that although most students have satisfactory level of personal maturity, quantitative analysis of separate scales has revealed significant shortcomings. So the scale that assesses the «I»-concept, which presents such important characteristics of a person as self-confidence, satisfaction with their own abilities, personality, and their competence have the lowest scores. This was also confirmed by the unstable «too low» life attitude of students. It was noted that the students’ personal maturity is interrelated with their professional self-realization. Activation of formation of the personal maturity of students is possible in conditions of organization of purposeful cognitive activity, in which individual, group and collective forms of work are combined, aimed at the content of awareness and development of responsibility, independence, self-control, emotional maturity, goal-setting and professional self-realization.

The study of academic engagement has gained international visibility due to various factors operating in the social environment, such as fragmentation, 'liquidity' in interpersonal relations, etc., which end up affecting the persistence rates in studies, or its manifestation in an increasing rate of desertion in higher studies on the part of Argentine students. This research has been carried out within this framework, where 350 students of University and College education, who are enrolled in technical, humanistic-pedagogical and economic studies, completed the Academic Engagement Scale (Daura - Durand, 2018) with the purpose of analyzing, on the one hand, their level of involvement with their studies; and on the other hand, inquiring on the existing connection with demographic variables.

Media Features beautiful as an ideal body shape which is slim, not fat with a flat stomach.  There are various beauty concepts which have been adopted by the mass media which stick in the public's mind. This often leads to acts of discrimination and bullying, which happened to a plus body size woman. Plus size women federation community (KAGUMI) has become a place for self expression and help for women of plus size to increase their confidence. This research aims to determine the communication strategy of Kagumi as a place to motivate and increase self confidence of their members. This research uses qualitative method; interviewees are the founder and members of Kagumi. The data obtained were analyzed using interactive analysis techniques including reduction, data presentation and conclusion. Results of this research show that the community role of Kagumi is a place to motivate through a credible communicator in conveying motivational messages can be quotes, words of wisdom which contain positive values for life, using inspirational stories through social media facebook, television, tabloids and offline activities. Obstacles encountered in the implementation of the communication strategy are self control from members, cyber crime and the spread of the message on a large scale in media which is contrary to the purpose of Kagumi.
