Effect of 2, 4, 5-T in different concentrations and time of herbicide applications on protein biosynthesis and enzymatic activity of proteases and acid phosphatases in needles of spruce seedlings was investigated. 2, 4, 5-T in all concentrations tested and applied on the seedlings during phase of intensive growth caused significant increase in soluble protein content. After spraying the seedlings with 100 and 300 mg ·l<sup>-1</sup> of 2, 4, 5-T before bud development a small decrease in soluble protein level was noted. The herbicide caused marked disturbances in the activity of enzymatic systems of proteases and acid phosphatases. No effect of 2, 4, 5-T on dry matter accumulation was observed.

The aim of this study was to investigate plant growth, fruit yields, IWUE and fruit quality in response to a micro/nano-bubble aeration (MNBA) system and a subsurface artificial air layer aeration system (SAALA) under different treatments. The results indicated that both MNBA and SAALA can positively influence plant dry weight, fruit yield, IWUE and, to some degree, fruit quality indices. In comparison with the no-aeration treatment, the MNBA treatment increased the dry matter accumulation, fruit yield, IWUE, lycopene content and soluble protein content by 7.1%, 9.0%, 7.1%, 6.2% and 16.2%, respectively, during the spring, while those during autumn increased by 4.0%, 14.4%, 4.0%, 3.8% and 1.7%, respectively. During the spring, the SAALA increased the dry matter accumulation, fruit yield, IWUE, lycopene content and soluble protein content by 13.0%, 25.1%, 13.0%, 2.9% and 15.1%, respectively, while those during autumn increased by 12.8%, 19.5%, 12.8%, 5.2% and 4.1%, respectively. PFM significantly improved the total dry weight, fruit yield and IWUE during both the spring and autumn seasons. Nevertheless, the soluble protein content decreased in response to the mulch treatment. The increased yield in response to soil aeration during autumn was significantly greater than that during the spring, and the yield increase in response to PFM was significantly greater in the spring than in autumn. Moreover, the nutrition indices in response to both soil aeration and PFM were more significant during spring than during autumn. Taking into account costs, efficiency and benefits, the optimal treatment was the MNBA and full PFM combination

Studies were made an the effect of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), gibberellic acid (GA), kinetin (Kin), and various combinations of these substances upon dry matter increments, soluble protein content, and chlorophyll levels in the cultures of <em>Scenedesmus quadricauda</em> (Turp.) Bréb. It was found that all these phytohormones, added separately to the medium, stimulated dry matter increment and protein content, although their effect depended on the concentration and the duration of culture. Addition of various combinations of the substances under study into the medium resulted in a less pronounced increment of dry matter, whereas the content of soluble protein significantly increased. The results reflect positive reaction of <em>Scenedesmus quadricauda</em> to the addition of phytohormones into the medium. They also suggest some differences in the action of particular hormones.

This study examined the effect of shifts in growth temperature on: 1) the partitioning of carbohydrate into starch or sucrose; and 2) the differential responses of tobacco types which differ in starch accumulation capacities. Six-week-old tobacco seedlings of Speight G28 (G28), a fluecured cultivar, and Ky 14 (K14), a burley cultivar, were acclimated for 9 days in growth chambers to a 14 h photoperiod of 300 μmol/s-m2 PAR at 27/22 C (day/night) and a relative humidity of between 70-80%. Temperature was then shifted to 15/10 C for 13 days and then back to 27/22 C for 8 days. At all points, sucrose, starch and protein content was higher in G28. Both cultivars demonstrated significant increases in dry matter accumulation per area, 1 day after the shift to 15/10 C. Dry matter increased steadily through day 13 in G28, but increased to day 5 and then leveled off at day 13 in K14. Nearly identical patterns of sucrose accumulation were observed in both species, with marked increases to day 5 and then a dramatic decline at day 13. Starch content increased steadily from day 1 to day 13 in G28, but leveled off in K14 after day 5. At day 8, soluble protein content increased only slightly in K14, but increased nearly 2-fold in G28. Within 1 day of the return to 27/22 C, starch and sucrose levels in both cultivars dropped 2 to 5-fold, to pre-temperature shift levels. The significance of these finding will be discussed.

Abstract The effects of different concentrations (100,150,200,250 mg/L) and different particle sizes (0–75µm, 75–120µm, 120–150µm, 150–500µm) on soluble protein content, SOD and CAT activity, MDA content, chlorophyll a content and photosynthetic parameters of Microcystis flos-aquae were studied, the mechanism of the effect of suspended particulate matter on the physiology and biochemistry of Microcystis flos-aquae was discussed. The results showed that the soluble protein content of Microcystis flos-aquae did not change obviously after being stressed by suspended particles of different concentration/diameter. The SOD activity of Microcystis flos-aquae increased at first and then decreased with the increase of the concentration of suspended particulate matter. The SOD activity of Microcystis flos-aquae reached 28.03 U/mL when the concentration of suspended particulate matter was 100 mg/L. The CAT activity of Microcystis flos-aquae increased with the increase of the concentration of suspended particles, and reached the maximum value of 12.45 U/mgprot in the concentration group of 250 mg/L, showing a certain dose-effect. The effect of small particle size on SOD, CAT and MDA of Microcystis flos-aquae was more significant than that of large particle size. The larger the concentration and the smaller the particle size, the stronger the attenuation of light and the lower the content of chlorophyll a. Both Fv/Fm and Fv/F0 of Microcystis flos-aquae increased at first and then decreased under different concentration/size of suspended particles. The relative electron transfer rate gradually returned to the normal level with the passage of time. There was no significant difference in α value between treatment group and control group, ETRmax and Ik decreased.

An experiment has been conducted to assess the real time utility and abundance of organic minerals in cultivation of common wheat, Triticum aestivum L. in Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh with the aim of finding the effect of available soil organic minerals on various biochemicals or chemical characters including yield attributes. For the experiment, the cultivar namely RAJ-4037 which is best for dry land area and crop matures in 120 days. This variety is suitable for bakery and beverage industry, has been taken. The pre availability of manures were measured and the application of various fertilizers have been done as per the recommended dose for the cultivation. The data of various biochemical characters like Dry matter accumulation, Protein content, NPK in grain, NPK in straw, yield and biological yields have been recorded as per standard methods. The results revealed that organic minerals had a significant impact to influence the various biochemical traits such as dry matter accumulation maximum in FYM, Protein content (11.18), NPK (0.60; 0.35 and 0.36) were recorded maximum in vermin compost treatment.

Leaf extract of Citrus aurantifolia exhibited remarkable inhibitor effect on the radial mycelial growth of Neurospora crassa. The extract also showed mutagenic effect and atleast six morphological mutants of the fungus were detected including albino (al 243), vigorous (vg 117), fluffy (fl 220), colonial (cl 232), conidial band (con. band 171) and dirty (dir 83). The mutants were used for estimation of soluble protein in comparison with the wild type (Ema). The soluble protein content increased to some extent in case of the mutants con. band 171 (192.86 μg/ml), cl 232 (188.57 μg/ml) and vg 117 (186.43 μg/ml) as compared to the wild type (182.14 μg/ml). On the other hand, the soluble protein content was remarkably decreased in case of the mutant al 243 (94.28 μg/ml), which was about 50% less than the control. This indicates that the leaf extract not only effect colony morphology but possesses profound effect on growth and metabolism of the fungus. Citrus plants often suffer from temperature stress, which seriously inhibits tree growth and even results in tree death. The present experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of Glomus mosseae on growth, root morphology, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities, and soluble protein content of trifoliate orange (Poncirus trifoliata) seedlings at low (15&deg;C), optimum (25&deg;C) and high (35&deg;C) temperatures. Sixty-eight days after temperature stresses, mycorrhizal colonization and number of both entry points and vesicles were significantly inhibited by low or high temperature. Mycorrhizal seedlings recorded significantly higher growth characteristics than non-mycorrhizal seedlings at both optimum and high temperatures, but the beneficial effects were almost lost at low temperature. Generally, mycorrhizal seedlings presented notably higher root traits (projected area, surface area, number of forks and volume) than non-mycorrhizal seedlings regardless of temperature levels. Mycorrhizal colonization significantly increased SOD and CAT activities and soluble protein content at high temperature, increased only SOD activity at optimum temperature, and decreased only soluble protein content at low temperature. It suggests that mycorrhizal alleviation of temperature stress in trifoliate orange seedlings was at high temperature, but the alleviation was obviously weakened at low temperature.
