The place of kitchens in contemporary designs is quite different from the traditional designs in terms of location, aesthetics and furnishing. Thus, this paper discussed development in kitchen designs over the past centuries and place emphasis on sustainable low-income kitchen design. The study examined the location of kitchens in contemporary dwellings in comparison with traditional dwellings in order to create a hybrid kitchen design that is sustainable, attainable and acceptable to contemporary and traditional individuals. Research methodology involved descriptive survey; with primary data obtained using structured questionnaire, systematic observation and interview with occupants of buildings in Awi community, Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria which is the study area. These were complemented with photographs of kitchens in the existing buildings within the area of study. 50 buildings purposely selected were studied to determine the designs, and placement/location of kitchens in these buildings in relation to the contemporary buildings respectively. Finally, the data collected were analyzed using simple statistical tool to obtain percentages, rankings and relative significance index (RSI) respectively to determine the reasons for the design and location of the kitchen. The result shows that of the five variables examined, cultural influence was the most significant reason for the location of kitchens outside the housing unit. The recommendation is that low-income dwelling should have kitchen space within in addition to the attached or detached kitchens in their dwellings.

Financial inclusion is a prerequisite to economic development. This has been echoed by international as well as national bodies. Studies have shown that financial exclusion has its roots in social exclusion. This indicates the depth and importance of financial inclusion in creating inclusive development. Numerous studies have revealed levels of financial inclusion with limited studies performed on the role of SACCO initiatives on financial inclusion. This research examined measures of financial inclusion which include both access and usage of financial products by low income earners and the socially excluded via SACCOs. Since access and usage are supplementary, they reflect a more vivid picture of financial inclusion. The study sought to analyze the role of SACCOs in promoting financial inclusion in Kenya. The study was guided by the three specific objectives: geographical coverage of SACCOs; cost and contribution of SASRA regulations towards enhancing financial inclusion. To achieve the objectives of the study a descriptive survey research was adopted. The target population was the three SACCOs in Meru town. 43 questionnaires were issued to SACCO members to access the level of financial service access. Primary data was analyzed with aid Microsoft excel software to generate frequencies, mean and percentages. Pie charts, graphs and tables were used to present various aspects of the variables. Content analysis was used to analyze qualitative while quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics.

JEL: O10; O20; G10; G20

Article visualizations:

Financial services are intangible and the only way to attract and retain customers is to seek out what they expect and design services to meet these expectations. This study was conducted to investigate customers’ evaluation of service quality in the Ghanaian banking industry using Cal Bank Limited as a case study institution and to recommend effective ways to improve the quality of service delivery. A convenience sampling technique was utilized in a 200 sample-size selection from Cal Bank customers in the Kumasi Metropolis, Ghana. Structured questionnaire adopted from the SERVQUAL instrument was used to gather primary data from customers and SPSS Statistics version 21 was employed as the main statistical tool. It is evident in this study that customers are dissatisfied with the overall level of service quality provided by the bank. However, customers are satisfied with empathy and assurance dimensions. The study further revealed that all the five dimensions of service quality significantly influence the service quality of the bank and the dimension with greatest impact is reliability, which has the highest coefficient. This means that the bank needs to pay much attention to reliability as a service quality component and improve upon the reliable services provided to customers whilst maintaining or improving the other dimensions.
