<p>This article performs an exploratory study of the newly formulated <em><em>Guidelines</em></em><em> for College English Teaching </em><em>(Draft Exposure)(2015)</em>(<em>Guidelines</em>), aiming at exploring how different the latest <em>Guidelines</em> is from the previous ones, what challenges it brings to teachers and how these challenges can be countered. Therefore, comparisons are made among six syllabi to illustrate the developments college English has achieved and its existent problems as well. To address these problems, <em><em>Guidelines</em></em><em> (2015) </em>is issued with three new features: the integration of instrumentality and humanity, the introduction of intercultural education and the system of multiple curriculum for multiple teaching objectives. Its issuing poses tremendous challenges to college English teachers, of which increasing demands on college English teachers' professional expertise, skillful employment of information technology and academic performance stand out. To help counter these challenges and difficulties, suggestions are made from three levels with the hope that improved teachers' quality can facilitate the implementation of <em><em>Guidelines (2015)</em></em><strong> </strong>and guarantee the potential achievement of its expected objectives. These suggestions are: life-long learning and self-directed development consciousness, the establishment of teacher education system by faculties and universities and continued governmental support in and favorable policies to college English teacher education.</p>

This article aims at introducing reflection of a vocational college teacher who takes English as a pre-major and further study in management field by analyzing SWOT for English teachers and working out an exploratory mechanism and framework for interdisciplinary research in vocational education management. This reflective report is composed of four parts: introduction, portrait of English teachers on teaching, research and other work, interdisciplinary transformation for English teachers and summary.

The paper sheds light on the university preparation of future English teachers in Slovakia. Since the requirements for becoming an English teacher differ around the world, the first part of the paper describes and explains the requirements and career development of English teachers in Slovakia. Twelve Slovak faculties provide university preparation of future English teachers, and this research analyses their curricular offer. The courses offered to future English teachers are firstly categorized into linguistic, intercultural, methodological, and literary groups. As teaching practice becomes an essential part of the teacher preparation, the hours devoted to the teaching practice were counted at each institution. The tables and graphs show the sums of the courses and allocated hours. Thus, this paper brings an overview, comparison, and differences in the university preparation of future English teachers in Slovakia. Even though this survey shows only a quantitative point, this research results can be considered as one of the quality indicators in the university preparation of future English teachers in Slovakia

Humanistic quality education forms a systematic ultimate thinking of human beings and a comprehensive and profound understanding of culture by digging out the contents related to humanity. It is to link life closely with the culture on which individuals depend for survival, and it serves the growth of individuals, the development of professional students and the expansion and deepening of the connotation of life. At present, in College English teaching, teachers’ awareness of humanistic education and humanistic quality are low in many aspects, such as teaching objectives, teaching contents, teaching organization and teaching evaluation. And students’ learning methods and strategies are also lack of the inhalation of humanistic quality. To carry out humanistic quality education, we should pay attention to the cultivation of teachers’ humanistic awareness and quality, and further enhance the ideological and depth of curriculum content. Meanwhile, we should also pay more attention to students’ self-cultivation from learning attitude, learning methods and learning strategies, with the purpose of guiding students to self discovery, self-understanding and self-monitoring in the learning process.

The four major problems concerning vocabulary-oriented teaching method, collective lesson preparation, on-line and off-line resources and college English teachers’ comprehensive abilities are introduced and analyzed and corresponding coping strategies are offered.

In higher education, English has always been the focus of teaching, and college English teaching must be vigorously innovated. Through the analysis of the English teaching situation in some colleges and universities, we discovered that micro-lessons an innovative teaching method, has been applied to a certain extent, but the circumstances under which micro-lessons are applied are not favorable. Many college English teachers recognize the value of micro-learning applications, but the shortcomings in the teaching also cause many challenges in the application of micro-lessons. This article will analyze the application value and specific challenges of micro-lessons in college English teaching, and propose some suggestions on the application of micro-lessons.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to investigate the components of adjacency pairs which appear in a conversation between an English teacher and hearing-impairment students in a special need classroom. Another aim is to find the dominance of English teacher in the special need classroom. Data are collected from a classroom observation, recording and transcribing their conversation during the teaching and learning activities in English classroom. Meanwhile, data analysis is carried out by identifying, analyzing and classifying based on Mc Charty’s theory of adjacency pairs., It is then found that there are 9 kinds of adjacency pairs committed from the interaction between English teachers and the hearing-impairment students as follows: (1) Compliment / Acceptance, (2) Information / Acknowledgement, (3) Greeting / Greeting, (4) Invitation / Acceptance, (5) Offer / Refusal, (6) Question / Answer, (7) Summons / Answer, (8) Accusation / Denial, (9) Offer / Acceptance. This study reveals a fact that various adjacency pairs occur in the special need classroom even though the teacher’s role is also quite powerful in the special need classroom. The finding of this study may become the reference for the teachers and practitioners who need deep understand toward characteristics of the special needs students especially for the impairment students.  Keywords: Adjacency Pairs, Teaching and Learning, Hearing-impairment Students

The professional competence of college English teachers in setting teaching goal has a direct impact on their teaching design level. Enhancing college teachers’ability in setting classroom teaching goal facilitates the improvement of their design level. By combining with the teaching design scheme of normal class, this paper defines the meaning of College English classroom teaching objectives,analyzes the problems that the college English teachers have in setting teaching objectives, and puts forward corresponding countermeasures to develop the college English teachers’ capability of setting teaching objectives, which are expected to promote college English teachers’ ability to design the activities for their class.
