Es handelt sich nicht um einen Mißerfolg bei Mimesis und die entsprechende kritische Bemerkungen, sondern um eine negative Einstellung zu der autonomen, musealen Kunst. Bei dem Nonkonventionalismus erscheinen neue Auffassungen für die Rolle der Kunst – nicht im Museum ein Objekt des ästhetischen Genußes zu sein, im Gegenteil eine revolutionäre Kraft in der Lebensveränderung der menschlichen Umwelt zu werden. Kunst für das Leben! Was machen die russischen Konstruktivisten, die Hollender von der Gruppe “De Stijl”? – Gemälde, die uns nicht ästhetische Lust geben, weil sie als Projekte für eine totale Umweltstrukturierung und Rekonstrukturierung geschaffen sind. “Leben ist Kunst – Kunst ist Leben!“ (W. Vostell). Das ist die Devise, die die heutigen Avantgardisten begeistert und entsprechend neue schöpferische Formen aufsuchen und verteidigen.

This article is dedicated to international connections between selected representatives of Polish and Western avant-gardes in art and literature of the interwar period. Both the nature and the scale of such relations have been exemplified by a number of artists from the “a.r.” group – Katarzyna Kobro, Władysław Strzemiński, Henryk Stażewski and Jan Brzękowski, as well as their relationships with the representatives of Dutch and Belgian formations, inter alia “De Stijl” group. The origin of those connections has been briefly presented, along with their nature, dynamics and an impact they made on artworks and theories of chosen artists. Their description is based on archival documents and publications, from which a picture of direct relationships between the leading artists of the European avant-garde emerges – some of them personal, some correspondence-based; they have also been presented in form of a diagram that illustrates the text.

As a fundamental science of forms and their order, geometry contributes to the process of composing and designing of products. Geometry is able to make a contribution to these processes by dealing with the geometric figures and forms as design elements as well as the relations between them. Finding the general principles of successfully combining those elements was a research aim of many designers, such as those in the modernist era. Influencing the industrial design in a revolutionary way, the Modernism became significant artistic movement of the 20th century, thus giving us the most iconic and timeless product designs. In this scientific paper, the relationship between geometry and design in the Modernism is described and explored through examples, with emphasis placed on De Stijl and Bauhaus products. Direct comparison is applied, focusing on the similarities and differences in the products’ geometry. Learning about the geometry and how it relates to the designs is not to be used as a substitute for the creative process, but rather as a means of obtaining a deeper understanding of it.
