What happens to a school when education is an international commodity and teachers are recruited globally? Bringing in their own luggage and agendas and asking, “Why not do something else?” The school does not fall apart. Modern management keeps it running smoothly. In terms of educational institutions, a good reputation seems to sustain. Elaborated strategies define potential new roles for the school in the world. Does culture beat strategy, is there a ghost in the machine that cannot be removed? Or is the school transforming into something found anywhere in the world, and mostly mediocre? A few years ago, a known figure in the EAAE system stated that: “There is no such thing as a global curriculum in architecture”, believing that schools gave priority to and took care of their own identities. Was this a false statement? Discussing the relationship between school and society, is the concept of belonging still valid and possible to pursue? If so, what measures are relevant?

For this study 250 respondents, 50 each from five universities, pursuing MBA degree were taken as sample and surveyed through structured questionnaire in the year 2016. Five variables are taken as the major quality indicators: quality of curriculum, faculty, employability, infrastructure, and reputation. For data analysis, descriptive, analytical and inferential techniques have been employed. The perceptions of the students are analyzed against the five quality dimensions where significant relationship is seen between the satisfaction of the students and faculty, employability, infrastructure and reputation. The study observed that a good brand name is often associated with quality and it is likely to think that good reputation is bound with good curriculum, faculty, employability and infrastructure. Hence, educational institutions should work on building good rapport in the market as it exerts strong effect on the overall satisfaction of students. This can be promoted by highlighting graduate employability and by indicating the career success and development of the graduates and alumni. The finding also revealed that the factors do affect the students’ perception and among the selected five quality dimensions ‘reputation’ is seen as the most influential factor in forming students perception and ‘curriculum’ is seen as the least influential factor as there is not much difference in curriculum provided by different universities.

Journal of Business and Social Sciences Research, Vol. 2, No. 1 & 2, pp. 15-26

Happiness is a fundamental characteristic of life, helping individuals to become healthy and productive members of society. Pakistan has been ranked as the 67th happiest country out of 156 countries in the world. Self-compassion (SC) and empathy are considered some of the finest emotions and moral values of human beings leading to a happier life. This is the first study in South Asia that examined self-compassion as a moderator between empathy and happiness. Furthermore, we also determined self-compassion and empathy as predictors of happiness among late adolescents. Data collected from 566 students, selected randomly from different educational institutions in Lahore, suggested that self-compassion (r = 0.273) and empathy (r = 0.131) had a significant positive relationship with happiness. Self-compassion and empathy both significantly predicted happiness. Male adolescents had slightly higher self-compassion and mindfulness than females. Self-compassion (F (3, 562) = 29.74, p = 0.000) was found to significantly moderate the relationship between empathy and happiness. Self-compassion can be highly beneficial to relate to oneself, specifically for adolescents who are involved in developing their identities and self-worth, and it makes their transition from adolescence to adulthood easy.
