Purpose Electrochromic window (ECW) has been gradually applied to building engineering in recent years. However, empirical study of this technology used in green building design is still lacking. This study aims to verify the lighting and energy-saving performance of ECW under a specific geographical environment. Design/methodology/approach The meditation pavilion of Jinwan new materials research institute in Zhuhai is taken for research object. Three kinds of sun-shading techniques, namely, ECW, Low-E window and ordinary glass window, with same specifications are selected as the building facade structure for simulation. Day lighting analysis, sun-shading performance and annual energy consumption are separately simulated in the same environment by the Autodesk Ecotect Analysis software. The energy-saving performance of ECW is obtained by comparisons. Findings Result shows that the shading performance of ECW is much better than ordinary window and Low-E window. When ECW is used in the east, west or top lighting interfaces of a building, about 40% of the total solar radiation can be reduced during daytime in summer. Taking the ordinary glass window as a basic reference, ECW can save about 90% of the annual energy consumption of the glass house. ECW can effectively reduce the annual refrigeration energy consumption of buildings in the subtropical region. Practical implications Reasonable use of ECW in the subtropical region can effectively reduce the annual energy consumption of buildings. Originality/value It is a precedent study to analyze the lighting performance and energy consumption of a glass house with ECW. The energy-saving characteristics and beautiful appearance of ECW shall make it a future green building technology.

The text elaborates on the significance and profile of insulation system for external wall of residential buildings in our country, makes comprehensive comparison among the external wall's self-insulation system, external wall's internal insulation system, sandwich composite insulation system and external wall's external insulation system, and reveals that the external wall's external insulation system has the advantage of strong feasibility, law cost, effective heat insulation break bridge and protective structure, which offers great potential for existing buildings in energy-saving rebuilding, thus finding a widest application and enjoying a promising market prospects.

Bina dış duvarlarında yapılacak ısı yalıtım uygulamaları, yakıt tüketimini düşürerek ekonomik kazanç sağlamanın yanında, fosil kaynaklı yakıt kullanımından kaynaklanan ve hava kirliliğine neden olan emisyonların düşürülmesinde de son derece etkilidir. Bu çalışmada Karabük’te kömür ve doğalgaz kullanımında dış duvar optimum yalıtım kalınlığı tespitinin ekonomik ve çevresel analizi yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın ekonomik boyutu, yaşam döngüsü maliyet analizine (LCCA) dayanan P1-P2 yöntemi ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonuçları, yakıt olarak kömür kullanıldığında optimum yalıtım kalınlığı ve enerji tasarrufunun sırasıyla 0.135 m ve 129.42 TL/m² olduğunu göstermiştir. Yakıt olarak doğalgaz kullanımında ise bu değerler sırasıyla 0.118 m ve 98.01 TL/m² olarak bulunmuştur. Optimum yalıtım kalınlığının hava kirliliğine olan etkileri incelendiğinde, yalıtımsız bina dış duvarında hesaplanan yıllık yakıt tüketimi, CO2 ve SO2 emisyonlarının yakıt tipine bağlı olarak optimum yalıtım kalınlığı noktasında %86’ya kadar azaldığı hesaplanmıştır. The Effect Of External Wall Optimum Insulation Thickness On Energy Saving And Air Pollution For Karabük Heat insulation applications carried out on external walls of building provides energy saving by decreasing fuel consumption and also quite important in decreasing emission which results from fossil-based fuel usage and causes air pollution. In this study, economic and environmental analyses were done for determination of external wall optimum thickness in using coal and natural gas usage in Karabük. Economic extent of the study was done with P1-P2 method which is based on life cycle cost analysis (LCCA). The results show that optimum insulation thickness and energy saving are 0.134 m and 117.14 TL/m² respectively when coal is used as a fuel. These values are 0.116 m and 88.39 TL/m² when natural gas is used as fuel. When the effects of optimum insulation thickness on air pollution are observed, CO2 and SO2 emissions calculated on external wall of uninsulated building decreased up to 85.4% at the point of optimum insulation thickness according to fuel type.

Light steel structure residence is an optimum selection for the realization of building energy-saving and meeting of green building evaluation standards. Two kinds of system of light steel structure are analyzed and construction method for lightweight combination wall and infilled outer walls of low-rise light steel are summed up. Analysis on exterior wall conformation in low-rise light steel structure is put forward. Results indicate that special construct of light steel structure is equivalent to set closed air space, and thermal performance of infilled external wall of light steel structure is superior to that of traditional structure. And thermal performance of using aerated concrete wall panels as filled outer wall of light steel structure is better than that of aerated concrete blocks and thermal stability of filled external wall of light steel structure is better than lightweight combination external wall. The conclusions provide a theoretical foundation for building energy-saving in light steel structure residence and optimal design of residential environment.
