Face recognition from the images is challenging due to the wide variability of face appearances and the complexity of the image background. This paper proposes a novel approach for recognizing the human faces. The recognition is done by comparing the characteristics of the new face to that of known individuals. It has Face localization part, where mouth end point and eyeballs will be obtained. In feature Extraction, Distance between eyeballs and mouth end point will be calculated. The recognition is performed by Neural Network (NN) using Back Propagation Networks (BPN) and Radial Basis Function (RBF) networks. The recognition performance of the proposed method is tabulated based on the experiments performed on a number of images.

Recently, considerable research efforts have been devoted to effective utilization of facial color information for improved recognition performance. Of all color-based face recognition (FR) methods, the most widely used approach is a color FR method using input-level fusion. In this method, augmented input vectors of the color images are first generated by concatenating different color components (including both luminance and chrominance information) by column order at the input level and feature subspace is then trained with a set of augmented input vectors. However, in practical applications, a testing image could be captured as a grayscale image, rather than as a color image, mainly caused by different, heterogeneous image acquisition environment. A grayscale testing image causes so-called dimensionality mismatch between the trained feature subspace and testing input vector. Disparity in dimensionality negatively impacts the reliable FR performance and even imposes a significant restriction on carrying out FR operations in practical color FR systems. To resolve the dimensionality mismatch, we propose a novel approach to estimate new feature subspace, suitable for recognizing a grayscale testing image. In particular, new feature subspace is estimated from a given feature subspace created using color training images. The effectiveness of proposed solution has been successfully tested on four public face databases (DBs) such as CMU, FERET, XM2VTSDB, and ORL DBs. Extensive and comparative experiments showed that the proposed solution works well for resolving dimensionality mismatch of importance in real-life color FR systems.

The authors aim to design the Multi-agent system, in which the software agents interact with each other to diagnose a disease and decide the treatment plan(s). In this chapter, the authors present a novel approach of applying Probabilistic Neural Network (PNN) to classify the childhood disease and their respective medical specialist. Normally this classification is performed by the pediatricians. The system that has been presented here, imitates the behavior of a pediatrician while selecting super specialist doctor. This decision making mechanism will be embedded in an agent called Intelligent Pediatric Agent. To design the PNN, a database consisting of 104 records has been gathered. It includes 17 different sign symptoms and based on their values, one of the five super specialists is selected. A Back propagation Neural Network (BPNN) has also been designed to compare the results produced by the PNN and it is found that PNN is more promising.

In order to improve the low accuracy of the face recognition methods in the case of e-health, this paper proposed a novel face recognition approach, which is based on convolutional neural network (CNN). In detail, through resolving the convolutional kernel, rectified linear unit (ReLU) activation function, dropout, and batch normalization, this novel approach reduces the number of parameters of the CNN model, improves the non-linearity of the CNN model, and alleviates overfitting of the CNN model. In these ways, the accuracy of face recognition is increased. In the experiments, the proposed approach is compared with principal component analysis (PCA) and support vector machine (SVM) on ORL, Cohn-Kanade, and extended Yale-B face recognition data set, and it proves that this approach is promising.

In scientific world, Face recognition becomes an important research topic. The face identification system is an application capable of verifying a human face from a live videos or digital images. One of the best methods is to compare the particular facial attributes of a person with the images and its database. It is widely used in biometrics and security systems. Back in old days, face identification was a challenging concept. Because of the variations in viewpoint and facial expression, the deep learning neural network came into the technology stack it’s been very easy to detect and recognize the faces. The efficiency has increased dramatically. In this paper, ORL database is about the ten images of forty people helps to evaluate our methodology. We use the concept of Back Propagation Neural Network (BPNN) in deep learning model is to recognize the faces and increase the efficiency of the model compared to previously existing face recognition models.

This paper proposes a complete procedure for the extraction and recognition of human faces in complex scenes. The morphology-based face detection algorithm can locate multiple faces oriented in any direction. The recognition algorithm is based on the minimum classification error (MCE) criterion. In our work, the minimum classification error formulation is incorporated into a multilayer perceptron neural network. Experimental results show that our system is robust to noisy images and complex background.

Now a day’s security is a big issue, the whole world has been working on the face recognition techniques as face is used for the extraction of facial features. An analysis has been done of the commonly used face recognition techniques. This paper presents a system for the recognition of face for identification and verification purposes by using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) with Back Propagation Neural Networks (BPNN) and the implementation of face recognition system is done by using neural network. The use of neural network is to produce an output pattern from input pattern. This system for facial recognition is implemented in MATLAB using neural networks toolbox. Back propagation Neural Network is multi-layered network in which weights are fixed but adjustment of weights can be done on the basis of sigmoidal function. This algorithm is a learning algorithm to train input and output data set. It also calculates how the error changes when weights are increased or decreased. This paper consists of background and future perspective of face recognition techniques and how these techniques can be improved.
