Purpose: The purpose of this study was to find out the state of supply chain management within MSME’s in Zambia by investigating the Supply Chain Management (SCM) practices, its benefits and challenges using some selected manufacturing micro, small-medium enterprises in Mandevu and Kalingalinga markets of Lusaka. Methodology: The study used descriptive research design and chose questionnaire as the tool for data collection. Purposive sampling technique was employed to obtain information from both the management and staff of the MSMEs. One hundred (100) questionnaires were distributed to the respondents. The obtained data were then analysed using the descriptive method. Results: The study found out that the manufacturing MSME sector appreciates good supply chain management practices, but does not practise it. The study discovered that the sector has not established long term relationships with its customers and suppliers. The sector was found to face several challenges which threaten its long term growth and survival, the most worrying challenges being the lack of financial resources, failure to practice continuous quality improvement, low integration of process technologies and forecasting challenges. The study also revealed that when implemented SCM practices deliver a number of benefits to the MSMEs. For example, increased response to the customer, cost-cutting on service delivery, improved information sharing and improved capacity to offer after-sale services.  It is evident that MSMEs would perform well if supply chain management activities are improved. This, however, can be accomplished, if the MSMEs engage in strategic partnerships, customer relationship, high level of information sharing, information quality, as well as continuous quality improvement. Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: The study could be replicated in other industry sectors of the economy and also in other developing countries to help build on the body of knowledge.

Abstract To circumvent the possibility of business failure, small to medium enterprises in emerging economies face mounting pressure to increase the satisfaction of their customers. The adoption of supply chain management practices is critical to the provision of quality products and services as well as the satisfaction of customers by small to medium enterprises. This paper investigated the relationship between customer satisfaction, supply chain management practices and three input factors; namely, product quality, flexibility and product variety in small to medium enterprises. The study adopted a quantitative approach in which a four section questionnaire was distributed to 131 managers in small to medium enterprises based in Gauteng Province, South Africa. Hypotheses were tested using regression analysis. The results of the study revealed that product quality and flexibility predicted supply chain management practices. Supply chain management practices were also statistically significant, and mediated the relationship between customer satisfaction and product quality and flexibility. Based on these results, conclusions were drawn and appropriate recommendations were made.

Supply Chain Management is an integrative method or approach to manage the flow of products, information, and money in an integrated manner that involves parties ranging from upstream to downstream consisting of suppliers, factories, distribution networks and logistics services. Supplier is one of the most important links in determining the quality of the product and the speed at which the product reaches the consumer. In the capture fisheries industry in North Sulawesi, the coastal fishing community in North Minahasa Regency is one of the spearheads of the success of the capture fisheries industry supply chain because it functions as a supplier to the fish processing industry in North Sulawesi. The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of Supply Chain Management, namely the variables of technical and managerial assistance, information sharing, trust, long-term relationships, and process integration on the competitiveness of coastal fishing communities in North Minahasa Regency. This study uses a causal associative research type. The analytical method used is Multiple Linear Regression Analysis. The results showed that technical and managerial assistance, information sharing and trust had a significant effect on the competitiveness of coastal fishing communities in North Minahasa regency, while long-term relationship variables and process integration had no significant effect on the competitiveness of coastal fishing communities in North Minahasa Regency.

common supply chain management practices (supplier partnership, customer relationship, information sharing, and lean system), net trade cycle, and financial performance. It consists of nine hypotheses concerning the relationships of the aforementioned factors that have been verified throughout reviewed literature and examined via employing the structural equation modelling technique. This research used data taken from floated questionnaires at three manufacturing companies in the Kingdom of Bahrain. An inclusive review of the literature to retrieve the four most common supply chain management practices has been undertaken and has identified limitations in the research techniques applied. This research has discovered the significant influences of the supplier partnership, the information sharing, and the lean system of the three most common supply chain management practices and the net trade cycle on the financial performance. Although this is the first research that combines the critical relationships among those four most common supply chain management practices, the net trade cycle, and the financial performance in one model, it is important to note that this study was unsuccessful in demonstrating whether there is a significant influence between customer relationship of the most common supply chain management practices and the net trade cycle on the financial performance. Researchers can employ the outcomes of this research to discover several related hypotheses in more details and increase the accuracy of forthcoming empirical relationships among those factors. This research offers particular suggestions for such further research. The outcomes of this research can be utilized by managers to highlight the execution of those four most common supply chain management practices and the net trade cycle in their respective ventures. Moreover, almost all of those relationships are found to have significant influences on the financial performance. Furthermore, the outcomes can be recommended to production managers who may well assign resources to enhance these practices to achieve the greatest outcomes.

Background: For South African small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to gain and maintain competitive advantages and succeed, they have to change their practices and adapt their strategies to the dynamic environment of today. A better understanding and application of green supply chain management practices by SMEs could enable such enterprises to improve their performance and succeed in their operations. Objectives: This study aimed to analyse the relationship between green supply chain management, environmental performance and supply chain performance in South African SMEs.Method: A conceptual model was proposed and subjected to empirical verification using data collected from SMEs based in Gauteng province. The structural equation modelling procedure was used to test hypotheses in the proposed relationships in SMEs within different industries. Results: The results of the study indicated mixed outcomes. No relationships were found between environmental performance and two green supply chain dimensions, namely green purchasing and eco-design. However, the remaining dimensions of green supply chain management, namely reverse logistics and legislation and regulation, positively and significantly predicted environmental performance. In turn, environmental performance positively and significantly predicted supply chain performance. Conclusion: Integrating green supply chain management practices, especially reverse logistics and adherence to legislation and regulation into the SME business strategy, leads to the improvement of environmental and overall supply chain performance.

This study focused on the relationship between supply chain management practices and SME performance in Arua Municipality, Uganda. The research axiology is value free and the approach is deductive. Data were sourced using both structured and semi-structured questionnaire survey consisting of 140 SMEs registered with the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB).Research outcomes revealed that supply chain collaboration is a precursor of SME performance. Whereas, internal management, use of information communication technology and innovation were proven to be statistically insignificant predictors of SME performance. The analysis of the study is deterministic and findings are hypothetical. The research design prohibits studying SME performance using exploratory views. In addition, data collection tool was standardized questionnaire design, and operationalised using quantitative procedures. Application of an in-depth interview could have given profound insights of the studied phenomenon. The practical effects of this study are that: owners and/or Managers of SMEs should improve performance by engaging in collaborative approaches such as long term contracts and interdependence. Scholarly presentations on the effects of supply chain management practices on the performance of SMEs in Arua Municipality, Uganda have attracted little scholarly attention in the past years. This study is therefore of momentous contribution in this area of research.
