Among all the notorious diseases Bhagandara is one such ano-rectal disease which have callous nature. The pain, inconvenience and constant discomfort hinder the natural routine of an individual and create problems for them. A revolutionary treatment approach to this disease is Kshar Sutra therapy. But it is the need of time to make more efficient Kshar Sutra by doing further research on them. Therefore, a research work was performed in Gurukul Campus of UTTARAKHAND AYURVED UNIVERSITY Haridwar, entitled ‘A clinical study of Guggulu-Shigru Kshar Sutra in the management of Bhagandara (Low level fistula)’. It is a single blind controlled study where 30 patients who fit in the inclusion criteria were randomly selected for the study. The Guggulu-Shigru Kshar Sutra was used to treat their anal fistulas and was changed on 7th day, 14th day, 21st day and so on till the end of the treatment. The present study has shown some very beneficial results in Unit Cutting Time (U.C.T.), pain, discharges, itching and burning sensation. Keywords Bhagandara, Gurukul Campus, Low level fistula, Guggulu-Shigru Kshar Sutra, U.C.T.,

Background: Apabahuka is a Vataja Nanatmaja Vyadhi, in which locomotive functions of Amsa Sandhi are affected mainly due to Vata Dosha Prakopa causing pain, stiffness and restricted movement of the shoulder. Apabahuka can be correlated to Frozen shoulder or Adhesive Capsulitis in modern medicine because of similar symptomatology. Nasya is indicated in Urdhwajatrugata Vikaras. Pinyaka Taila and Swalpa Masha Taila are Vatahara Taila used for Nasya. Method: A single blind randomised clinical study in which 40 clinically diagnosed patients of Apabahuka, fulfilling the inclusion criteria were selected and divided into two groups - Group A treated with Pinyaka / Panchamula Taila Nasya and Group B treated with Swalpa Masha Taila Nasya, comprising of 20 patients each. Result: Statistically Nasya with Pinyaka Taila showed better results in Pain (51.2%), Stiffness (48%), Tenderness (58.33%), with improvement in goniometric readings of shoulder ROM than Nasya with Swalpa Masha Taila in Pain (39.4%), stiffness (40.9%), Tenderness (58%). Discussion: Rukshadi Gunas of Vata are increased in Apabahuka hence Viparita Gunas like Snigdhadi in the form of Brumhana Nasya with Pinyaka Taila was found to be effective in Apabahuka. In the present study Group A Nasya with Pinyaka Taila showed better effect than Group B Nasya with Swalpa Masha Taila.

Introduction: Amongst Sapta Dhatu , Rakta Dhatu is of  prime importance as it   is mainly responsible for Jeevan Karma and Prananuvartana. According to Dhatu Poshana Kala theory by Acharya Susruta, Rakta Dhatu is formed on the 5th day after formation of AharaRasa.                                                                                                                                                                                                   Rakta Kshaya can be correlated with symptoms of anaemia due to malnutrition. Kharjura (Phoenix dactylifera, Linn.) now days well known as dates is of neutraceutical value has been used in treatment of Rakta Dhatu since ages. Aim: To assess effect Of Khajura with Dhatriloha and Dhatriloha alone on haemoglobin percentage with special reference to Sushruta’s Rakta Dhatu Poshankal.”Present pilot study was performed to set guidelines with special reference to treatment and analysis period for chief clinical trial and taking into consideration Dhatu Poshana Kala Theory screening of patients for Hb % was done at intervals of 5 days. Materials and methods: Kharjura Laddu was prepared, patients fulfilling inclusion criteria of Rakta Kshaya were administered with Kharjura Laddu(10g)+Dhatri Loha(250mg) and Dhatri Loha(250mg) alone in groups A and B respectively for 10 days in Rasayan Kala(early in morning). Results: Kharjura Laddu+Dhatri Loha group revealed better results in relieving symptoms and increasing Hb%. Both groups exhibited increase in Hb% at 5 days interval after start of treatment. Conclusion: Kharjura can be used as neutraceutical along with Dhatri Loha in management of Rakta Kshaya. Insignificant increase in Hb% at interval of 5 days of consumption of drug   ascertains Dhatu Poshan Kala theory.

Dushta Vrana is a common and frequently encountered problem faced in surgical practice. The presence of Dushta Vrana worsens the condition of the patient with different complications and may become fatal. Local factors on wound like slough, infection and foreign body, affect the normal process of healing. A healthy wound in a normal body heals earlier with a minimum scar as compared to a contaminated wound. Therefore in this study all the efforts are made to make a Dushta Vrana into a Shuddha Vrana. Once the Vrana becomes Shuddha, Ropana of the Vrana will start. The objective of the study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy of Jatyadi Taila and Jatyadi Ghrita in Dushta Vrana. Clinically diagnosed 60 Patients of Dushta Vrana were randomly divided into two groups, each consisting of 30 Patients. Group A were treated with the Jatyadi Taila and Group B was treated by Jatyadi Ghrita. The results observed was based on the relief obtained on the subjective and objective parameters taken for consideration for this study viz, size of ulcer, discharge, smell, pain, burning sensation, itching and granulation were found significant (P Lass Than 0.05). On the basis of assessment criteria and overall result of treatment, the patients of Jatyadi Taila group showed better results when compared to Jatyadi Ghrita group. Even though statistically there is no much significant difference between the two groups, but by seeing the effect on individual parameters (subjective and objective) and over all response, Jatyadi Taila seems to be effective when compared to Jatyadi Ghrita. It is having more Ropana qualities when compared to Shodhana.

ABSTRACT Objective: In general, chemical plaque agents have been used in mouthwashes, gels, and dentifrices. In some situations, application of mouthwashes and dentifrices can be difficult. Therefore, different approaches for oral health-care have been needed. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of propolis chewing-gum compared to propolis-containing mouthwash on gingival inflammation and plaque accumulation on patients that refrained from daily oral hygiene procedures for 5 days. Materials and Methods: 10 college students with systemically healthy and very good oral hygiene and gingival health were included in this randomized, single-blind, crossover 5-day plaque regrowth with a 3-day washout period clinical study. After plaque scores were reduced to zero, participants were asked to refrain from oral hygiene procedures and allocated to either propolis mouthwash or chewing-gum group. Chewing-gum was performed after meals 3 times a day for 20 min mouthwash group was instructed to rinse mouthwash 2 times a day for 1 min. On day 5, the clinical periodontal measurements containing plaque and gingival indexes were taken from the participants. Results: The both plaque and gingival indexes of propolis mouthwash group were significantly lower than that of the propolis chewing-gum group (P = 0.005). Conclusion: It was demonstrated that the propolis mouthwash was more effective than the propolis chewing gum on the plaque inhibition and the gingival inflammation.

A controlled study of the treatment of bacterial meningitis with single and multiple, potentially antagonistic antimicrobial drugs was undertaken. Sixty-five patients received a single and 71 received several drugs in combination. The two groups were generally comparable. There was no significant difference in the results: that is antagonism could not be demonstrated in this clinical study. It seems reasonable to recommend that, in patients over 1 month of age with acute primary bacterial meningitis in whom an etiologic agent cannot be promptly identified, the use of multiple drugs aimed at the three most likely organisms (pneumococcus, meningococcus, H. influenzae) can be employed without danger of clinically apparent antagonism.

The Shalya tantra, a prime branch of Astanga Ayurveda is rich in much aspect of modern surgical concepts. Sushruta elaborately described the advances of the Tantra in various Ano-rectal diseases, as Arsha is one among them. The term ‘Arsha’ is derived from “Ru Gatau” Dhatu with the suffix “Asun”, gives the meaning of as violent as enemy. It is the commonest ano rectal disease and affects anyone at any time. In Ayurveda, the sufficient descriptions are described regarding etiology, pathology, symptomatology, types and management or treatment measures of Arsha. All the classics of Ayurveda enumerate that the present sedentary life style, irregularities in food intake, taking junk, spicy, non-fibrous foods, inactive occupation and mental stress etc., are causative factors for ‘Arsha' (Hemorrhoid) and that leads to hypo function of digestive enzymes, which in turn leads to constipation, itching, burning sensation and pain in the region of Guda and finally bleeds and thus Arsharoga originates. Acharyas described various Chikitsa modalities of Arsha critically for prevention and cure of Arsha along with avoiding causative factors (Nidanaparivarjana). Acharya Sushruta has described four dimensions of the treatment for Arsha, all these are applied on the basis of Dosha involvement and stages of Arsha like Bheshaja Karma, Shastra Karma, Kshara Karma, Agni Karma, similarly Snehana, Swedana, Vamana, Virechana, Asthapana and Anuvasana Basti for Vataja Arsha, Virechana for Pittaj Arsha, Aharadravya mixed with Sunthi and kulatha for Kaphaj Arsha and Shamana Chikitsa for Raktaj Arsha etc.
