The aim of this study was to evaluate the perception of periodontal pain in patients treated with either fixed multibrackets or removable alignment systems with a monthly follow-up over a period of twelve months. Materials and Methods: This longitudinal clinical study comprised a sample of 140 patients (72 women; 68 men) divided into two groups of 70 patients each: the bracket group (BG) with conventional fixed brackets using the MBT technique with a 0.022″ slot and the Invisalign group (IG) with aligners (Invisalign). The visual analog scale (VAS) was used to quantify patient-reported pain. Pain analysis was conducted monthly at 4 (T1), 8 (T2), and 24 h (T3) post-follow-up as well as at 2 (T4), 3 (T5), 4 (T6), 5 (T7), 6 (T8), and 7 days (T9) post-follow-up during the first twelve months after starting orthodontic treatment. Results: Statistically significant differences (p < 0.05) were observed between both study groups in the mean pain scores on the visual analog scale (VAS) during the twelve-month follow-up period, except for during the eighth month of treatment. In the first month, the group with conventional brackets reported higher pain scores. From the second month onwards, we observed that patients with aligners described a higher level of pain compared to the group of patients with conventional brackets. In both experimental groups, though at different evaluation periods, we found that the peak of maximum pain occurred between 24 and 48 h (T3–T4) after monthly follow-up appointments; from this point, the pain decreased until reaching minimum values from the fifth day onwards (T7). Conclusions: In the first month of treatment, the patients with conventional fixed multibrackets reported the highest levels of pain compared to those with removable aligners. From the second month on, this trend changed. The patients with removable aligners reported the highest levels of pain. Therefore, the orthodontic system used influenced the perception of pain in patients.

The effect of giving cucumber juice and isotonic drink of dehydration level on Zumba fitness exercise AbstractThis research is intended to know comparison the effect of giving cucumber juice and isotonic drink on level of dehydration. Method which is used is experiment with cross over design. 8 UPI 2018 nursing students participated as samples in this research. Dehydrating exercise test that used in this research is Zumba fitness for 60 minute. Instrument data retrieval uses Urine Refractometer Spesific Gravity dan 5 visual analog scale. The result of this research indicated that there’s no difference significantly between the results of pre-test and post-test on cucumber juice and isotonic drink to the level of dehydration p(0.83) and p(1.52). In subjective assessment there is no significant difference in the subjective assessment between cucumber juice and isotonic drink with a significance in the amount of Thirst p(0.398), Bloatedness p(0.609), Refreshed p(0.758), Stomach upset p(0.486) dan Tiredness p(0.683). As well as there is no significant difference between cucumber juice and isotonic drink to the level of dehydration with a significance level of p(0.696). This shows that cucumber juice can reduce the potential of dehydration as good as isotonic water. It proved that cucumber juice can replaced isotonic water as sport drink.

Introduction Music-based sound therapies become recently a trend in the treatment of tinnitus. Few publications have studied the therapeutic use of fractal tones to treat chronic tinnitus. Objective The aim of this study was to determine the benefits of using fractal tones as a unique sound therapy for chronic tinnitus sufferers. Methods Twelve participants were recruited; however, six could not be assigned. At baseline and at 1, 3 and 6 months, the participants were provided with the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) and Hearing Handicap Inventory for Adults (HHIA) questionnaires, and their visual analog scale score was recorded. Tinnitus pitch and loudness matching was performed before fitting and after 6 months of use. Results The visual analog scale (VAS) score, pitch and loudness matching and minimal masking levels did not result in significant improvement at the end of the treatment. The mean THI measured at baseline was 45, and the final one was 25. A paired sample t-test showed that this 20-point difference was statistically significant. Conclusions We measured the benefits of using fractal tone therapy for the treatment of chronic tinnitus and found that most of the benefits were in the THI functional domain, which includes concentration, reading, attention, consciousness, sleep, social activities, and household tasks. For all patients with bothersome chronic tinnitus and high scores on the THI functional scale, fractal tones should be considered a promising initial sound therapy strategy. The findings from this open-label pilot study are preliminary, and further trials are needed before these results can be generalized to a larger tinnitus population.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to compare the efficacy of dentifrices containing potassium nitrate and strontium chloride in reducing dentinal sensitivity pain. METHODOLOGY: A pilot study was conducted in Islamic International Dental Hospital Islamabad, Pakistan (Duration two weeks). Forty participants were selected, aged between 18-40 years, having dentin hypersensitivity with the minimum score of 4 on Visual Analog Scale. Participants were randomly allocated with dentifrices containing 5% w/w potassium nitrate and 10 % w/w strontium chloride and were asked to use it for 2 weeks and come back for follow up. Statistically significant correlations were found using the Man Whitney test. A pre-designed proforma was used to acquire information about the patient. Sensitivity was determined with the aid of the Visual Analog Scale. RESULTS: There was greater reduction in moderate pain from 85.8% to 71.4% with strontium chloride and from 84.2% to 79% with potassium nitrate. CONCLUSION: 10 % w/w strontium chloride is more effective than the 5% w/w potassium nitrate for the management of dentin hypersensitivity.

Perceived valence, tension, and movement of harmonic musical intervals (from the unison to the octave presented in a low- and high-register) and standard noises (brown, pink, white, blue, purple) were assessed in two studies that differed in the crossmodal procedure by which tension and movement were rated: proprioceptive device or visual analog scale. Valence was evaluated in both studies with the visual analog scale. In a preliminary study, the proprioceptive device was calibrated with a psychophysical procedure. Roughness of the stimuli was included as covariate. Tension was perceived higher in dissonant intervals and in intervals presented in the high register. The higher the high-pitch energy content in the standard noise, the higher the perceived tension. The visual analog scale resulted in higher tension ratings than the proprioceptive device. Perception of movement was higher in dissonant intervals, in intervals in the high register, and in standard noises than in musical intervals. High-pitch spectrum noises were associated with more sense of movement than low-pitch spectrum noises. Consonant intervals and low-register intervals were evaluated as more pleasant than dissonant and high-register intervals. High-pitch spectrum purple and blue noises were evaluated as more unpleasant than low-pitch spectrum noises.
