Dynamic changes in the chemical environment in the bottom of overlying water and microbial community structure in trench and flat seabed sediments were evaluated during summer and autumn in Tokyo Bay, Japan, to elucidate the response of microbial community changes as a consequence of dredging activity. Quinone profile analysis was performed to evaluate the changes in microbial community structure in the sediments. Bottom shape and location of each station affected the chemical environment of the overlying water. The trench bottom shape had longer anoxic conditions than the flat bottom shape. Nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations affected the microbial density in the sediment. During anoxic conditions, the ubiquinone/menaquinone ratio (UQ/MK) was less than unity and increased with rising dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations. The dominant quinone species in the trench and flat seabed sediments were MK with 6 and 7 isoprene units (MK-6 and MK-7) and UQ with 8 and 9 isoprene units (UQ-8 and UQ-9). MK-6 and UQ-8 containing bacteria might have a great influence on the sulfur cycle of the aquatic ecosystem. While, MK-7 and UQ-9 containing bacteria correlated with the deposition of phototropic bacteria cells onto the seabed sediment. The trench bottom shape contained higher concentrations of MK-6, MK-7, UQ-8 and UQ-9, especially during summer.

In Tokyo Bay, the harvestable quantity of asari (Manila) clams Ruditapes philippinarum has been decreasing since the late 1990s. We conducted a field investigation on clam density in the Banzu culture area from April 1988 to December 2014 and collected records spanning January 1986 to September 2017 from relevant fisheries cooperative associations to clarify the relationship between the temporal variation in stock abundance and the production activities of fishermen. The yearly variation in clam abundance over the study period was marked by larger decreases in the numbers of larger clams. A large quantity of juvenile clams, beyond the biological productivity of the culture area, may have been introduced as seed stock in the late 1980s despite the high level of harvestable stock. The declines in harvested quantity began in the late 1990s and may have been caused by decreases in harvestable stock despite the continuous addition of seed stock clams. The harvested quantity is likely to be significantly dependent upon the wild clam population, even within the culture area, as the harvestable quantity was not correlated with the quantity of seed stock introduced during the study period. These declines in harvested quantity may have resulted from a decreasing number of operating harvesters due to the low level of harvestable stock and consequently reduced profitability. Two findings were emphasized. A certain management style, based on predictions of the contributions of wild and introduced clams to future stock biomass, is essential for economically-feasible culturing. In areas with less harvestable stock, actions should be taken to maintain the incomes of harvesters while avoiding overexploitation, even if the total harvest quantity decreases.

Bulang districts Batam Islands of  Riau province (Riau Islands), its consists of many islands with as well as having the potential diversity of coastal marine life in particular kinds of macro algae or seaweed. Conducted research aimed to determine the structure of macro- algal communities in the intertidal zone islands. The results of the identification of algal species found 16 species are: the Order of Chlorophyceae as 6 spesies; Order Phaeophyceae as 2 spesies; and Order Rhodophyceae as 8 spesies. The community structure at the five stations showed the highest values were found in the island of dominance Cicir (D ' = 0.79) , uniformity index values on Tengah Island (E ' = 0.99) , while the island Balak had the highest diversity index (H ' = 0.88) , with the abundance patterns of population structure on the island is pretty good Central . Results of correlation analysis of regression between IVI types of algae with the conditions of environmental quality suggests that there is a significance (Fhit ˃ F table and the value of r = > 90 %) between IVI algae Halimeda sp and Cryptarachne polyglandulosa at each station with a temperature parameter surface (⁰C) , depth temperature (⁰C) and pH values. Keywords : Algae, Community Structure, Important Value Index.
