Vibration of structures due to external sound is one of the main causes of interior noise in cavities like automobile, aircraft, and rotorcraft, which disturb the comfort of passengers. Accurate modelling of such phenomena is required in eigenfrequency analysis and in designing an active noise control system to reduce the interior noise. In this paper, the effect of periodic noise travelling into a rectangular enclosure is investigated with finite element method (FEM) using COMSOL Multiphysics software. The periodic acoustic wave is generated by a point source outside the enclosure and propagated through the enclosure wall and excites an aluminium flexible panel clamped onto the enclosure. The behaviour of the transmission of sound into the cavity is investigated by computing the modal characteristics and the natural frequencies of the cavity. The simulation results are compared with previous analytical and experimental works for validation and an acceptable match between them were obtained.

The finite element method based on unstructured mesh has good geometry adaptability, it has been used to solve reactor physics problems, manual description of geometric modeling and meshing makes the current finite element code very complicated, it greatly restricts the application of this method in the numerical calculation of reactor physics. Using the CAD pre-processing software ICEM-CFD, three dimensional geometry is divided into tetrahedral or hexahedral meshes, two dimensional geometry is divided into triangular or quadrilateral meshes, the main code of neutron calculation for nuclear noise analysis based on finite element method is developed. The steady state parameters are calculated and tested through benchmark problem, the test results show that the code has the corresponding computing capabilities. Finally, the neutron noise spectrum is calculated for the 3D PWR benchmark problem published by IAEA, and the noise distribution under given frequency is given.

The postbuckling behavior of thin plates under combined loads is studied in this paper by using a mixed boundary element and finite element method. The transverse and the in-plane deformation of the plates are analyzed by the boundary element method and the finite element method, respectively. Spline functions were used as the interpolation functions and shape functions in the solution of both methods. A quadratic rectangular spline element is adopted in the finite element procedure. Numerical results are given for typical problems to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The possibilities to extend the method developed in this paper to more complicated postbuckling problems are discussed in the concluding section.

Nowadays, the simulation of forming processes is rather well integrated in the industrial numerical codes. However, to take into account the possible modifications of the tool during cycle of working, we develop dedicated numerical software. This one more particularly will allow the identification of the fatigue criteria of the tool. With the view to conceiving the optimal shapes of tool allowing increasing their lifespan while ensuring a quality required of the part thus manufactured. This latter uses coupling with friction finite element method — for modelling the axi-symmetric part — and boundary element method — for modelling the tool. For the validation, we modeled forming process.
