This paper proposes a fuzzy adaptive control method for uncertain horizontal platform system with unknown control gain, which is capable of guaranteeing the prescribed performance bounds. An error transformation is introduced to transform the original constrained system into an equivalent unconstrained one. Then, based on the error transformation technique and the predefined performance technique, a fuzzy adaptive controller is designed for the unconstrained system. It is shown that all the variables of the resulting closed-loop system are bounded. Finally, an illustrative example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness and usefulness of the proposed method.

Abstract When a feedback system is devised to control a mechanical member that is structurally limber, unstable (“self-excited”) vibrations may be encountered at approximately a natural frequency of the structural member. Cures are generally easy to effect once the phenomena are understood. Two interesting cases are described: ground vibrations of an airplane control system due to a limber fuselage, and vibrations of a stable platform system due to limberness in the platform structure. The investigations are carried out using the root-locus technique, which provides a plot of system characteristics as explicit functions of control strength. In the case of the stable platform, the analysis is found to be more reliable than physical intuition.

Due to the mass imbalance about the center of rotation, the stability of stabilized platform system degrades with carrier’s disturbances. Various feed-forward control methods are provided by reaserchers to solve this problem, however these methods are not well applied because the eccentricity of stabilized platform could not be measured directly. The dynamics model of a typical 2-axis stabilized platform is given. The eccentricity vector is identified through Unscented Kalman Filter(UKF) algorithm. Imbalance torque is precisely observed so that the real-time nonlinear compensation for mass imbalance is achieved through a feed-forward loop. The simulation result indicates that the Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) of parameters estimation is 0.024 after convergence. the LOS stabilization with carrier’s 2.5Hz vibration is 0.04 rad/s, which improves 78% compared to conventional feed-back control.
