Slope is an important factor in terrain mapping and can be determined from contour maps or aerial photographs. Previously methods have been proposed to reduce the time element using contour maps. This paper describes and demonstrates a technique whereby aerial photographs can be used effectively when photogrammetric equipment and reliable contour maps are not available. Accuracy with the method is illustrated by comparison to slope determined from a contour map and a single computation sheet is provided for inclusion in a handbook or field guide. Stereo pairs of contour maps may be constructed by a process analogous to, but the inverse of, the process used to make contour maps from stereo pairs of aerial photographs. This construction can be carried out either manually or with computer plotting devices. The contoured stereo pairs are then viewed in three dimensions by a variety of methods: with lens or mirror stereoscopes, with bicolor anaglyphs in drafted, printed, or projected form, or by polarized light methods. Preferred techniques at present are 1) 5‐inch wide prints viewed by the mirror stereoscope, and 2) anaglyphic rear projection on a 3×4 ft screen. The advantages of studying complex contour maps in three dimensions are striking. The entire morphology of the map may be studied rapidly by the human optical system, the latter carrying out such functions as trend filtering, wavelength filtering, form and texture recognition, and location of linears almost simultaneously. Important features that are missed or seen with difficulty on the flat contour map become obvious in a three‐dimensional view, and may be studied further in detail by manual or computer techniques. The method appears to be a significant interpretational breakthrough, bringing us one step closer to a total interpretation, wherein all observable map features are correlated with their geological causes.

Peak ground acceleration is one of the parameters used in estimating the extent of breakdown caused by earthquake shocks. In the present study, the determination of an attenuation empirical formula PGA (Peak Ground Acceleration) based on the attenuation equation Lin and Wu (2010). Data used in the study of seismic event data by period year 2008-2012. Through the calculation of regression analysis, then obtained the function attenuation of peak ground acceleration in Lampung region at each station accelerograph.At the LWLI accelerograph station obtained the value of the empirical coefficient of the distance of earthquake -2.351, the empirical coefficient of earthquake magnitude 0,574, and the constant 2,430. At the KASI accelerograph station obtained the value of the empirical coefficient of the distance of earthquake -2.522, the empirical coefficient of earthquake magnitude 0.654, and the constant 2.182. At the BLSI accelerograph station obtained the value of the empirical coefficient from the distance of earthquake -3.224, the empirical coefficient of earthquake magnitude 0.651, and constant 4,092. At the KLI accelerograph station obtained the value of the empirical coefficient from the distance of earthquake -2.746, the empirical coefficient of earthquake magnitude 0.751, and the constant 2.053.Result of correlation test verification, chart relation between distance and magnitude earthquakes, ratio PGA contour maps, as well as a ratio between the value of PGA models with the observation of accelerograph year 2013-2016 show that the acceleration attenuation function of the obtained soil is relatively good. Based on PGA attenuation contour map model at an event the earthquake on 28th May 2011, PGA great value be found in the Liwa region with a PGA score of 10-20 gal and its seismic intensity value is V-VI MMI. It happens because of the source the earthquake is in the western sea of Liwa.

To find out the ability of Orobanche seeds to germinate immediately after seed set, seeds were germinated periodically at an interval of three months for one year in GR24. Some Orobanche seeds were capable of germination immediately after seed set but most required about nine months as after ripening or incubation period to be able to germinate. The phenomenon of after ripening in Orobanche seeds could be taken as an ecological measure to dormant over following unfavorable wet summer season. The growth hormone studies on Orobanche seed germination have shown that GA3 at a concentration of 100 ppm substantially enhanced seed germination when applied during pre-conditioning period. NAA showed some stimulatory effect at 0.5 - 1.0 ppm when applied during post-conditioning period but the hormone if applied during pre-conditioning period inhibited the germination. Kinetin failed to stimulate the germination at all the concentrations tested. Key words: Germination, root-parasite, hormone. Ecoprint Vol.11(1) 2004.

Phase-stepping photoelasticity has been used to study the fragmentation of an E-glass fibre in epoxy resin and examine quantitatively the effect of a transverse matrix crack on the stress transfer at an interphase. Unsized glass fibre was coated by plasma polymerisation with a crosslinked conformal film of 90% acrylic acid and 10% 1,7-octadiene. The micro-mechanical response at the fibre-matrix interphase and in the adjacent matrix has been described in detail using contour maps of fringe order. From these, the interfacial shear stress profiles at fibre-break have been calculated.

Determination of oxalate-extractable Si and Al is useful in assessing the degree of accumulation of allophane-like materials in Podzolic soils. Three procedures were tested for determining Si: manual spectrophotometry, automated spectrophotometry and atomic absorption. For concentrations of oxalate-extractable Si above 0.5 g kg−1, there was no significant difference among results by the three procedures. For lower concentrations of Si, results by atomic absorption were higher than those by the spectrophotometric procedures. Determination by Si by autoanalyzer is the preferred procedure as it is convenient, sensitive and reliable. Key words: Oxalate Si, Podzolic soil, autoanalyzer

Abstract Seismic and gravity observations were carried out in the active volcanic area of Katmai in the summer of 1965. A determination of hypocenters has been aftempted using S and P arrivals at a station located at Kodiak and two stations located in the Monument. However, in most cases, deviations of travel times from the Jeffreys-Bullen tables were rather large. Therefore hypocenters are not well located. A method based on P- and S-wave arrivals yields a Poisson's ratio of 0.3 for the upper part of the mantle under Katmai. This higher value is probably due to the magma formation. The average depth to the Moho from seismic data in the same area is 38 km and 32 km under Kodiak. Using Woollard's relation between Bouguer anomaly and depth to the Moho, a small mountain root under the volcanoes with a depth of 34 km was found dipping gently up to 31 km on the NW side. The active volcanic cones are located along an uplift block. This block is associated with a 35 mgal Bouguer anomaly. The Bouguer anomaly contour map for the Alaska Peninsula is given and an interpretation attempted.
