Stellar summer rape (Brassica napus L.) is the first canola quality cultivar which produces seed oil with 3% linolenic acid and 28% linoleic acid. This oil has shorter hydrogenation time and better stability than standard canola oil. Stellar is adapted to the southern B. napus growing areas of western Canada, particularly the Black and Grey soil zones of Manitoba and Saskatchewan.Key words: Rape (summer), low linolenic-high linoleic acid, cultivar description

Allons (Brassica napus L.) is a low linolenic acid canola cultivar which produces seed oil with an average linolenic acid content of 2.5%. The low linolenic oil has a shorter hydrogenation time and greater stability than standard canola oil. Allons is higher yielding and contains higher seed oil and lower meal protein than the low linolenic cultivar Stellar. Mercury summer rape (Brassica napus L.) is a high-erucic acid rapeseed cultivar with canola-quality meal. The oil provides a good source of erucic acid for industrial applications and the canola-quality meal can be used in the feed industry. Mercury has an average 10% yield advantage over Hero rapeseed with seed oil and protein contents comparable with Hero rapeseed. MillenniUM 01 summer rape (Brassica napus L.) is a high-erucic acid, low-glucosinolate (i.e. canola-quality meal) cultivar. It has an average 7% yield advantage over Reston high erucic acid, low glucosinolate summer rape, is 11 g kg−1 higher in seed oil content than Reston, 25 g kg−1 higher in meal protein content than Reston, and is adapted to the southern B. napus growing regions of western Canada. Tribute summer rape (Brassica napus L.), registered in 1985, is a triazine-tolerant, canola-quality cultivar. It is early maturing and produces seed with low seed chlorophyll content. Tribute has yield and seed oil content similar to other triazine-tolerant cultivars such as OAC Triton. Tribute is better adapted than OAC Triton to the B. napus growing areas of western Canada because of its earlier maturity.
