The systematics of the fossil representatives of Ranina Lamark, 1810, has been discussed by several authors in the last century, showing some problematics above all due to the lack of a close diagnosis of the type species (<em>R. ranina</em>) and to the scarce number of well-preserved type series of each fossil species. However, based upon a close comparison among the type series of each species, authors’ original descriptions, and the main diagnostic characters of <em>Ranina</em>, this preliminary review finds that twelve species have to be considered as doubtful species within <em>Ranina</em>, as follows: <em>?Ranina americana</em> Withers, 1924, <em>?R. berglundi</em> Squires &amp; Demetrion, 1992,<em> ?R. bouilleana</em> A. Milne Edwards, 1872, <em>?R. brevispina</em> Lőrenthey, 1898,<em> ?R. granulosa</em> A. Milne Edwards, 1872, <em>?R. griesbachi</em> Noetling, 1897, <em>?R. haszlinskyi</em> Reuss, 1859, <em>?R. libyca</em> (Van Straelen, 1935),<em> ?R.</em> <em>molengraaffi</em> Van Straelen, 1924,<em> ?R. oblonga</em> (von Münster, 1840), <em>?R. ornata</em> De Angeli &amp; Beschin, 2011, and<em> ?R. speciosa</em> (von Münster, 1840). Four species have to be considered as <em>Ranina nomina dubia</em>, as follows: <em>Ranina elegans</em> Rathbun, 1945, <em>R. hirsuta</em> (Schafhäutl, 1863), <em>R. lamiensis</em> Rathbun, 1945, and<em> R. tejoniana</em> Rathbun, 1926. <em>Ranina</em> <em>bavarica</em> Ebert, 1887,<em> R. fabri</em> Schafhäutl, 1863, and<em> R. helii</em> Schafhäutl, 1863, have to be assigned to Lophoranina Fabiani, 1910. <em>Ranina</em> <em>cuspidata</em> Guppy, 1909, has to be assigned to Calappa Weber, 1795 (Calappidae De Haan, 1833). Finally,<em> R. burleighensis</em> Holland in Holland &amp; Cvancara, 1958, has to be considered as doubtful species within Decapoda.

AbstractAll Oriental and Australasian/Oceanic species of Pegadomyia are re-examined. A detailed study of the generic characters shows that Pegadomyia actually contains two easily diagnosed genera: Pegadomyia Kertész, 1916 and Pseudopegadomyia gen. n. Pegadomyia now includes the type species P. pruinosa Kertész, 1916 (occurring in Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand) and three new species: P. ceylonica sp.n. (from Sri Lanka), P. nana sp.n. (from Laos) and P. nasuta sp.n. (from Malaysia). Pseudopegadomyia contains Ps. jamesi sp.n. (based on a type series from the Philippines) and two species originally belonging to Pegadomyia: Ps. glabra (Bezzi, 1928), comb.n. (Fiji Is.) and Ps. nuda (James, 1948), comb.n. (Australasian Region and Philippine Is.). Figures of the diagnostic characters of all treated species are included. Identification keys and a map showing the distribution of all species of both genera are presented.

The status and location of the type series of Enicocephalus flavicollis Westwood, 1837 (type species of EnicocephalusWestwood, 1837, the type genus of Enicocephalidae) from St. Vincent Island (Lesser Antilles) is discussed, and insteadof two formerly assumed different ‘holotypes’ the lectotype and paralectotype are designated. Males of E. flavicollis areredescribed, the 5th instar larva is described for the first time, and diagnostic characters of the species are reviewed. Spe-cies of Enicocephalus are listed and pterygopolymorphism of females is reviewed. Enicocephalus dominica Bruner, 1924 is a correct original spelling of the species name (not E. dominicus nor E. dominicanus).

Three new fossil species from Burmese amber are described, one clearly in family Calamoceratidae, the other two in the highly variable family Odontoceridae. The family Odontoceridae contains 18 disparate genera, but there are no good diagnostic characters, which makes it difficult to place fossil taxa in this family. We here offer a revised diagnosis for the family, highlighting the lack of good diagnostic characters, and the need to use sets of characters to place (extinct) taxa in this family. On this taxonomic basis we describe two new species in the hitherto monotypic fossil genus Palaeopsilotreta Wichard & Wang, 2017 (Odontoceridae), Palaeopsilotreta burmanica sp. nov. and P. cretacea sp. nov., redescribe the type species based on additional information, and describe features of the female, based on two specimens, one of which is embedded adjacent to a male identified as P. xiai. Males of Palaeopsilotreta bear bipectinate antennae; the antennae of the females are simple and filiform. Similarly, bipectinate antennae are present in the third species we describe, Bipectinata orientalis gen. et sp. nov., which otherwise lacks the character combinations associated with the Odontoceridae, but clearly can be assigned to the family Calamoceratidae.

Several type series of unusual and poorly known genera of Syllidae have been examined. New diagnoses for the following genera and re-descriptions of their type species are provided: Anguillosyllis, Clavisyllis, Lamellisyllis and Nuchalosyllis; Brachysyllis, previously synonymized with Dioplosyllis, is herein considered to be a valid taxon. The species Brachysyllis infuscata is also re-described. Three genera are considered to be non-valid taxa: Braniella, synonymous with Anguillosyllis; Alluaudella, synonymous with Odontosyllis; and Exogonella, synonymous with Parexogone. Their type species herein are re-described and assigned to their corresponding valid genus. Finally, Exogonoides is considered nomina dubia since its relationships with other syllids could not be established. Keys to species of Anguillosyllis and Brachysyllis are also included.

As a result of examination of the holotype of Neseuthia sumatrana Franz, 1984 (subsequently placed in the genus Cephennomicrus), Lathomicrus gen. n. is established for this species (with Lathomicrus sumatranus comb. n. as the type species). The single male paratype included in the type series of N. sumatrana was found to have been misidentified, and is fixed as the holotype of a newly described C. fesumatranus sp. n. from Babahrot, Sumatra (Indonesia). Diagnostic characters including the aedeagi of both treated species are illustrated. A key to the Old World genera of Cephenniini is provided.

We provide diagnostic characters for the genus Glaucolepis Braun, re-examine the type series of the type species of the North American G. saccharella Braun, describe two new species from Chile and Argentina (G. flagellata Remeikis & Stonis, sp. nov. and G. pseudoflagellata Remeikis & Stonis, sp. nov.), and provide the first photographic documentation of the central Andean G. aerifica (Meyrick). We synonymize Neotrifurcula van Nieukerken, 2016, syn. nov. with Glaucolepis and provide one new combination for the south Andean G. gielisorum (van Nieukerken, 2016), comb. nov. All species treated in the paper are illustrated with drawings and (or) photographs of the adults and genitalia.

Pasini and Garassino (2017a) revised the fossil record referred to Ranina Lamarck, 1801 by Karasawa et al. (2014). As result only four species were considered as possible valid species within Ranina: R. palmea E. Sismonda, 1846, R. pellattieroi De Angeli and Beschin, 2011, R. propinqua Ristori, 1891, and R. ranina (Linnaeus, 1758). These species are herein revised and discussed, based on updated observations and critical review of the fossil materials and on a re-definition of the main diagnostic proxy characters sensu Schweitzer (2003) of the type species R. ranina (Linnaeus, 1758). This review allows us to establish that R. ranina from the middle Pleistocene of Ryukyu Islands (Japan) and R. palmea from the middle Miocene of Italy have consistent proxy characters with the extant Ranina to be considered as valid species within the genus. Moreover, Tethyranina n. gen., with T. propinqua (Ristori, 1891) n. comb., is herein proposed to accommodate this questionable fossil species previously assigned to Ranina. Finally R. pellattieroi De Angeli and Beschin, 2011, lacking the typical characters of Ranina, is considered as a doubtful species within Ranininae.

A new genus and five new species of odiniids (Odiniidae: Traginopinae) are described from the Brazilian Amazon and Cerrado biomes: Inpauema mirador gen. nov. et sp. nov. (type species), I. catarinae sp. nov., I. gaimarii sp. nov., I. raimundoluizi sp. nov., and I. xavieri sp. nov. The genus is being characterized by a unique combination of diagnostic characters: body predominantly dark brown to black, with silvery-gray pruinose spots on inner margin of eyes, longitudinally along middle of lunule and face, on notopleuron and mesopleuron; postcranium concave from dorsal view; one pair of stout proclinate ocellar setae; postocellar setae absent; lunule shorter than frons; gena lacking upturned seta; antennae separated by a maximum distance of 2X the diameter of a single antennal socket and gonocoxal apodemes directed upward, forming an arch. A key to separate Helgreelia Gaimari, 2007 from Inpauema gen. nov. and for the new species is provided.

Abstract Bryozoans with calcified frontal shields formed by the fusion of costae, collectively constituting a spinocyst, are traditionally assigned to the family Cribrilinidae. Today, this family is regarded as nonmonophyletic. In the Argentine Cenozoic, cribrilinids were until recently represented by only two fossil species from the Paleocene of Patagonia. This study describes the first fossil representatives of Jolietina and Parafigularia: J. victoria n. sp. and P. pigafettai n. sp., respectively. A fossil species of Figularia, F. elcanoi n. sp., is also described. The material comes from the early Miocene of the Monte León and Chenque formations (Patagonia, Argentina). For comparison, we also provide redescriptions of the remaining extant species of Jolietina: J. latimarginata (Busk, 1884) and J. pulchra Canu and Bassler, 1928a. The systematic position of some species previously assigned to Figularia is here discussed. Costafigularia n. gen. is erected, with Figularia pulcherrima Tilbrook, Hayward, and Gordon, 2001 as type species. Two species previously assigned to Figularia are here transferred to Costafigularia, resulting in C. jucunda n. comb. and C. tahitiensis n. comb. One species of Figularia is reassigned to Vitrimurella, resulting in V. ampla n. comb. The family Vitrimurellidae is here reassigned to the superfamily Cribrilinoidea. The subgenus Juxtacribrilina is elevated to genus rank. Inferusia is regarded as a subjective synonym of Parafigularia. Parafigularia darwini Moyano, 2011 is synonymized with I. taylori Kuklinski and Barnes, 2009, resulting in Parafigularia taylori n. comb. Morphological data suggest that these genera comprise different lineages, and a discussion on the disparities among cribrilinid (sensu lato) spinocysts is provided. The type series of Albertosaurus sarcophagus , consisting of a type (CMN 5600) and a paratype (CMN 5601) is inadequately established, since it has not been demonstrated that the specimens represent the same taxon. This problem has arisen because the original diagnostic characters have a wider distribution among Tyrannosauridae or they are in error, and both specimens consist of incomplete and damaged skulls. The type series was studied to test for the presence of diagnostic characters in the type specimen and, if so, to provide a rationale for referring the paratype to the taxon. Of the bones shared between the skulls, only five could be compared. One character, the enlarged posterior pneumatic recess of the palatine, is shared between the two specimens; this condition differs from the situation seen in other tyrannosaurids. This character provided the rationale for assessing the identity of the specimens collected from the Albertosaurus bonebed, from which one palatine was collected that exhibits the diagnostic recess. Isolated cranial bones from the bonebed were compared with those preserved in the type series to evaluate their referral to A. sarcophagus ; additional characters shared between the type series and the specimens from the bonebed were identified in the maxilla, lacrimal, and palatine. This evidence supports the hypothesis that A. sarcophagus is the tyrannosaurid preserved in the bonebed. A hypothesis of the principal growth changes in the skull in A. sarcophagus, which includes the type series and bonebed material, is proposed.
