<p style='text-indent:20px;'>STEM (science, technology, engineer, mathematics) education and engineering education are receiving an increasing amount of interest worldwide, but related research on the influence of STEM courses on students' engineering problem solving in China is scarce. Considering the rapid prototyping function of laser-cutting tools, this study was conducted to develop a STEM course based on laser cutting and to explore how the course affected high school students' engineering problem-solving abilities. A 9-week curriculum was implemented in a science, technology, and fabricating club of a high school in Zhejiang, China. The data were collected by pretest and posttest questionnaires and presentations of group assignments. The results were as follows. First, when presented with an engineering problem, the students demonstrated problem-solving abilities because they followed principles of engineering design, such as sketching, modeling and modifying. Second, while completing the assignment, the students proposed solutions with comprehensive factors in many aspects. They showed high-level thinking, such as consideration of the background, limiting conditions, and multidisciplinary knowledge, and they used technological tools to complete the task. However, some students ignored the assessment and redesign of their solutions. Further research could use a larger sample from different grades and explore how a STEM course combined with technology tools could influence students' high-level thinking skills.</p>

This study aims to improve the ability of high-level thinking by developing learning models based on problems in senior high school students. The type study is research development. The subject of dissemination consists in 3 distric/city in North Sumatera, namely: SMK Negeri 6 Medan, MAN Deli Serdang Distric and SMA Yapim Taruna Langkat Distric, SMA YPK Medan City. Instrument of Collecting data used are observation guidelines, questionnaires, interview guides, students mathematics text books for 11th grade in Senior high school, Teacher’s guide book, instrument of pre-test and post-test. Development of model is adopted from Thiagarajan’s model and Semmel & Semmel’s model. This study has compiled teaching materials in the form of textbooks for students’ and teacher’s guide book that includes the structured steps of solving mathematical problems based on problem solving which can construct high-level thinking. Results of dissemination showed a significant improvement of students’ problem solving ability in three districts/cities in North Sumatra at four schools.

This study aims to describe in detail the results of the development of a problem-solving STEM module with the theme of the dome house, and explain the results of the improvement after the use of the module. STEM is an approach that combines science, technology, engineering, and mathematics into a single discipline that is able to realize learning by presenting real problems in everyday life. The STEM module based on the problem-solving ability developed raised the theme of the dome house, which has a function as an earthquake-resistant house which was used as a reconstruction of post-earthquake housing and is permanent, economical, and efficient. Solving problems is one part of high-level thinking, as well as a form of action in solving problems that utilize the knowledge they have. Indicator of achievement of problem solving is analyzing the problem, making a plan for its completion, carrying out planning, and checking again. The development method applied is Research and Development. This module is validated by 5 experts, the results show that the module is very feasible to use. The module was tested on research subjects totaling 20 eighth grade students. The results show that the highest increase in students' problem-solving ability after the implementation of the module is the indicator carrying out the plan with n-gain 0.40, while the lowest increase in the indicator understands the problem with n-gain 0.22. Overall, the STEM module that was developed was able to improve the problem solving ability  of state Islamic junior high school  students.

Familiarize learners to communicate, think critically and creatively and to consider moral values of Pancasila is one Permendikbud 81 A mandate in 2013. The need for students to be exposed to high level thinking tests in Learning Science is to hone the skills of students at the high school level. The purpose of this study was to describe the level of student mastery and achievement test indicator junior high school students in East Java in resolving high level thinking tests of learning science. This study was conducted at 20, 23, and 28 November 2012 in three districts, there are: Blitar, Mojokerto, and Pamekasan. The population of this study were junior high school students in East Java with a sample of students SMP 3 Nglegok Blitar (15 peoples), SMP 2 Dlanggu Mojokerto (15 peoples) and SMP 7 Pamekasan (15 peoples) by using purposive sampling technique. Data sources such as student scores on the analysis of high-level thinking skills test developed by USAID Priority Team. Techniques of data collection conducted by researchers through the provision of test instruments to students, then corrected degree of truth answers based on predefined criteria. Analysis of data in quantitative descriptive data then qualitatived. The conclusions of this study are: competence Junior high school students in East Java in resolving high level thinking tests category learning science enough (enough with a mean value of C- with a score of 43.8) and achievement test results categorized good indicators, namely: (a) observation of characteristic Distinctive animals (75.6), and analyze the properties of liquid water (75.6).

The major aim of teaching Mathematics is to develop problem solving skill among the students. This article aims to find out the problem solving strategies and to test the students’ ability in using these strategies to solve problems. Using sample survey method, four hundred students were taken for this investigation. Students’ achievement in solving problems was tested for their Identification and Application of Problem Solving Strategies as a major finding, thirty one percent of the students’ achievement in mathematics is contributed by Identification and Application of Problem Solving Strategies.

Introduction. Modern curriculum («Physical culture 10-11 classes») for the last decades is developed according to requirements of operating standards of basic and full general secondary education. In particular on a modular system Aim is to find out the changes of technical preparedness of high school students according to the results of implementation the variable module "Wrestling". Material and methods. There were used theoretical analysis and generalization of scientific and methodical data and sources of the Internet, analysis of documentary materials, pedagogical testing, pedagogical experiment (there was tested the effectiveness of the developed variable module "Wrestling" in the physical education of high school students in secondary schools), methods of mathematical statistics. During the 2017-2019, school years were involved 53 students of 10 classes (31 boys and 22 girls) and 74 students of 11 classes (41 boys and 33 girls). Results. Analysis of the 10th grade boys’ results indicated the presence of significant changes a high level (p≤0.01). In all cases, the average scores improved by 0.54-0.71 points (from 16.79% to 22.66% of initial level). The girls of the 10th grade best realized the technical and tactical elements standing - dumping, beating (24.76% improvement from the initial level) and on the ground - twists and somersault (24.51%, respectively). For 11th grade boys technical and tactical improvement there was on the level of p≤0.05(9.35–18.45% of the initial level). According to the percentage values for 11th grade girls, in general, there were changes in grades by 10.67–21.13% from the initial level. Conclusions. It was found that in most technical and tactical elements, girls show higher relative rates of improvement. The only exception is in somersault with running, where the boys had the best changes. The factors of this are the better functional start an organism of young people at the beginning of the pedagogical experiment and higher indicators of fitness, which all owed to better master the technique of the wrestling elements at the beginning of the variable module. The girls gradually increased both fitness and technique of performing theses pacificelements of wrestling.
