As a field and course, “Turkic World Literatures” covers Turkish literatures outside Turkey. However, in practice, it is seen to encompass new (contemporary-modern) literature field outside Turkey. This field is taught in Turkish higher education in different courses such as “Contemporary Turkic World Literatures”, “Turkic World Literatures”, “Comparative Turkic World Literatures” and “Azerbaijan/ Turkmenistan, etc. Literature Examples”. Nevertheless, there are some differences in practice and content when it comes to research in the field in general, and teaching in particular. This study discusses a few issues regarding Turkic World Literatures research and teaching and makes suggestions in conclusion. Within the framework of Turkic World Literatures course and research, “determination of the field’s scope”, “inter-field comparison” and “textual adaptation of contemporary literary theories and knowledge” are discussed.

ABSTRACT

Research and teaching: scenarios and epistemological impasses for qualifying higher education.

The growing challenges for higher education are requiring institutions efforts to revise and innovate curriculum, to express attractives to their potential audiences and articulate ways of managing the discourse of quality improvement. In epistemological perspective, it’s needed to invest in the conceptual theme that combines teaching and research, expanding the reflection about naturalization that this discourse is sustaining the quality of higher education. From the field of pedagogical knowledge is required a base of research and reflection, focusing on curriculum, teaching and learning processes and their quality dimension. This perspective focuses heavily on the design of teaching and knowledge necessary to its exercise. Should also be a concern that the political dimension may be more complex because it involves the review of cultures, visions and corporate interests that were consolidated by tradition. Make use of action research as a tool for the production of knowledge about the practices of teaching and learning at university can be a significant strategy to change the usual equation of research on teachers to do it with teachers. And this condition constitutes a challenge to achieve the democratization efforts of higher education, “qualifying the quality” of pedagogic practice for the relationship teaching and research.

The conditions are investigated in which Spanish university teachers carry out their teaching and research functions. 655 teachers from the University of Oviedo took part in this study by completing the Academic Setting Evaluation Questionnaire (ASEQ). Of the three dimensions assessed in the ASEQ, Satisfaction received the lowest ratings, Social Climate was rated higher, and Relations with students was rated the highest. These results are similar to those found in two studies carried out in the academic years 1986/87 and 1989/90. Their relevance for higher education is twofold because these data can be used as a complement of those obtained by means of students' opinions, and the crossing of both types of data can facilitate decision making in order to improve the quality of the work (teaching and research) of the university institutions.

Choice of profession is a social phenomenon that every person has to face in life. Numerous studies convince us that not only the well-being of a person depends on the chosen work, but also his attitude to himself and life in general, therefore, the right and timely professional choice is very important. Research about factors of career self-determination of students of higher education institutions in Ukraine shows that self-determination is an important factor in the socialization of young person, and the factors that determine students' career choices become an actual problem of nowadays. The present study involved full-time and part-time students of Institute of Philology and Mass Communications of Open International University of Human Development "Ukraine" in order to examine the factors of career self-determination of students of higher education institutions (N=189). Diagnostic factors of career self-determination of students studying in the third and fourth year were carried out using the author's questionnaire. Processing of obtained data was carried out using the Excel 2010 program; factorial and comparative analysis were applied. Results of the study showed that initial stage of career self-determination falls down on the third and fourth studying year at the university, when an image of future career and career orientations begin to form. At the same time, the content of career self-determination in this period is contradictory and uncertain, therefore, the implementation of pedagogical support of this process among students is effective.

After first surveying the development of academic studies of Islam within the modern Turkish higher education system, this essay provides an inventory of material that has been translated from Western languages into Turkish. It is inevitable that orientalist studies will have a place of tremendous importance in this analysis. However, approaches to the Qur'an and its exegesis which have been developed under the influence of the Western scientific and cultural world encompass a larger range of literature that includes not only the orientalist studies themselves but also the criticisms directed against these studies. Particular attention is paid to the work of Fazlur Rahman and Arab scholars influenced by Western methods, and an assessment of the various issues related to the critique of orientalist works is provided.

A number of studies have considered the evaluation of efficiency in higher education institutions. In this paper, we focus on the issue of revenue efficiency, in particular ascertaining the extent to which, given output prices, producers choose the revenue maximising vector of outputs. We then relax the price taking assumption to consider the case in which the market for some outputs is characterised by monopolistic competition. We evaluate efficiencies for English institutions of higher education for the academic year 2012–13 and find considerable variation across institutions in revenue efficiency. The relaxation of the price-taking assumption leads to relatively small changes, in either direction, to the estimated revenue efficiency scores. A number of issues surrounding the modelling process are raised and discussed, including the determination of the demand function for each type of output and the selection of inputs and outputs to be used in the model.

Agricultural College and Research Nowadays E-resources have essentially become part and parcel of higher education in its entire Institute, Killikulam also has provided quality e-resources for the access of its library users with all required infrastructures. The present study explores the availability of different e-resources, awareness of e-resources, the impediments encountered at the time of accessing the e-resources and the objectives of utilization of e-resources in Agricultural College and Research Institute, Killikulam.

In the past decade, however, accountability has become a major concern in most parts of the world. Governments, parliaments, and society at large are increasingly asking universities to justify the use of public resources and account more thoroughly for their teaching and research results. The universal push for increased accountability has made the role of university leaders much more demanding. The successful evolution of higher education institutions will hinge on finding an appropriate balance between credible accountability practices and favorable autonomy conditions.
