This article discusses the early phases of Gentle House, a spatial design research project that works with concepts of autistic perception and a collaborative design process to renovate the home of a family of four. The family includes a ten-year-old autistic child who is currently being educated via correspondence schooling. In working alongside the family and understanding the uniqueness and complexity of their needs, the goal is to create spaces that are stimulating and enjoyable for them to live in. The autistic child’s experience of the physical world is pathologised as sensory processing disorder. This is a condition where there are differences in the integration of sense modalities that can lead to moments of being overwhelmed by some stimulus and a more highly tuned receptivity to other stimuli, such as texture and smell. This design research rejects a pathological framework for characterising these experiences and uses co-design approaches with the aim of learning from his engagement with the world. In particular, his highly tuned awareness of phenomena that ‘neurotypical’ perception tends to tune out or overlook. The larger implication of this project and approach is a rethinking of our living and working environments towards sensorially richer and more inclusive ends. The early phases of the project have involved a series of spatial, material, and sensory design prototypes, which are discussed in terms of their co-creation and the perceptual richness of space-time experiences. The design knowledge gleaned from these prototypes is briefly contextualised within existing frameworks for inclusive design, before outlining future trajectories for the research.

Anak penyandang autis mempunyai masalahgangguan dalam bidang komunikasi, interaksi sosial, sensoris, pola bermain, perilaku, dan emosi.Orangtua yang memiliki anak penyandang autis pasti tampak berbeda dari orangtua lainnya.Keberadaan anak autis dengan perilakunya di dalam keluarga menimbulkan stressor tersendiribagi setiap anggota keluarganya. Tujuan penelitian: menguraikan secara mendalam pengalamankeluarga tentang beban dan sumber dukungan keluarga serta makna dalam merawat anak autis.Metode: Desain penelitian metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi. Teknik pengambilanpartisipan dilakukan secara purposive sampling. Sebanyak enam partisipan berpartisipasi padapenelitian ini. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara teknik wawancara mendalam (indepthinterview) dan menggunakan catatan lapangan ( fi eld note). Hasil wawancara mendalam dan catatanlapangan dianalisis menggunakan metode Colaizzi. Hasil: hasil penelitian penelitian mengidentifi kasitujuh tema, yaitu beban psikologis, beban fi nansial, dukungan sosial, dukungan keluarga, perhatiantanpa pamrih, kecewa terhadap pemberi dukungan, dan takdir. Diskusi: Rekomendasi penelitianadalah perawat dapat meningkatkan kompetensi dalam melakukan pengkajian terhadap kebutuhankeluarga dalam merawat klien dengan autis sehingga semakin tepat dalam memberikan intervensikepada keluarga terutama untuk meningkatkan kemampuan dan meminimalkan beban yangdirasakan keluarga anak dengan autis.Kata Kunci: anak autis, keluarga, beban, sumber dukungan.ABSTRACTAutism is de fi ned as a complex developmental disorder that includes communication, social interactionand imaginative activities. Children with autism have problems in communication, social interaction,sensory processing disorder, play patterns, behaviors and emotions. Parents who have a child withautism will be different from the other parents in every aspect. The existence of a child with autismand his/her behavior are stressor for each member of the family. Objectives: This study is aimedat explain in depth about family’s experience of burden and source of support and their signifi cancefamily in caring for children with autism. Methods: This study employed qualitative method withphenomenological approach. Six participants were taken using purposive sampling. Data werecollected through in-depth interviews and using fi eld notes. The results of in-depth interviews andfi eld notes were analyzed using Colaizzi’s method. Results: The results of the study identifi ed seventhemes, namely psychological burden, fi nancial burden, social support, family support, selfl essattention, disappointment over support giver, and destiny. Discussion: This study recommends thatnurses improve their competence in assessing the needs of family in caring for clients with autism.So that they will provide interventions more precisely to family, particularly to increase competenceand to minimize the burden carried by families of children with autismKeywords: children with autism, family, burden, source of support.

We address the design issue of mundane and strategic work in collaborative design. We do so through an examination of a series of participatory design activities in building a flagship library of the future. Both strategic and mundane work are found to permeate the processes, results, and further uptake of collaborative design outcomes as internal issues of user involvement, and not just as external context or excludable routine execution, which has been the prevailing view to them in design research to date.

There is growing interest in adopting three-dimensional virtual environments within spatial design courses to use digital modelling techniques to support students' learning. One pedagogical issue that has received little attention so far is the question of how 3D virtual environments can be used to implement assessment techniques that support students' learning of spatial design expertise. This chapter seeks to assist spatial design educators who are considering digital modelling by presenting two case studies that highlight assessment practices within spatial design courses using virtual environments. Rubrics and student work samples are included. These courses both involve students creating architectural designs within virtual environments, yet contrast in several ways: learning outcomes, 3D modelling technologies, and student cohorts. The cases examine how the affordances of virtual environments for iterative, immersive, and collaborative design can enable formative and summative assessment, with both design process and the final artefact playing important roles.

The general systems model of central sensory processing used in this study is based on the assumption that central processing is discontinuous and raises this question: Is concurrent processing of different sense modalities serial, parallel, or independent? Since an eye-jump indicates input of visual information, if the auditory system is stimulated by clicks with fixed delays after eye-jumps, intermodality relationships are tested. Reaction times and evoked responses show complex interactions which are interpreted to suggest serial processing analogous to time sharing computers.

The process of design explicates the procedural knowledge of design activities, shifting theoretical conceptions across practical dimensions. Design thinking, as a creative and innovative methodology, has been established as a designerly process for non-designers to address complex problems. This article reviews the implications of introducing the design thinking methodology as a pedagogical approach in design education at LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore, generating new knowledge to inform the research spaces of design practice and theory. Using the design thinking methodology as a sound framework to facilitate risk-taking decisions in design research and practice, students from the design specialisms of Design Communication, Product Design and Interior Design were inducted into an interdisciplinary project. The perspectives and insights arising from the collaborative, design thinking methodology are extracted, analysed and adapted to form a framework to illustrate the non-linear, circular structures of knowledge generation from theory (designerly knowing) to practice (design thinking) and research (design knowing).

Abstract   Coronary heart diseaseis a diseaseof highcurrentand is theleading cause of death, especially inworld. Based on theinitialresearchstudyof10familiesincludinga family of 7peopledo notknowabout theearly symptoms, attitudesandefforts tocontrolandtreatmentofcoronaryheartdisease, resulting in the risk ofcoronary heartdisease. The purpose ofthe studyto determine thefactors-factors related tothe incidence ofcoronary heart disease. Design research is an analytical technique using cross sectional study, conducted in the department of cardiac clinic of Dr. M. Djamil Padang on 05 May s/d 04 September 2017. Respondent control of coronary heart disease as much as 1557 people. The sample was 94 people simple random sampling analysis data processing through univariate and bivariate. Get research results coronary heart disease events (68,1%), negative attitudes (57,4%) and family measures on the incidence of heart attacks that have a unfavorable action (59,6%). Found a significant relationship between the attitude of the family with the incidence of coronary heart disease (p = 0.003) and asignificant correlation between the actions of the family incidence of coronary heart disease (p = 0.004). The results of this study it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship attitudes and actions of family on the incidence of coronary heart Advice for nurses in the cardiac clinic to improve the delivery of information and services, especially in the provision attitudes and actions towards family understanding of coronary heart disease and control measures in the form of leaflets or counseling. Keywords : attitudes, family action, the incidence of heart attack, heart control, heart coroner.   Abstrak Penyakit jantung koroner merupakan penyakit penyebab kematian nomor satu di dunia. Bedasarkan studi awal penelitian dari 10 orang keluarga 7 orang keluarga diantaranya tidak mengetahui tentang gejala awal, sikap dan upaya pengendalian dan perawatan dari penyakit jantung koroner. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui faktor–faktor yang  berhubungan dengan kejadian serangan jantung koroner. Desain penelitian adalah analitik dengan menggunakan tehnik penelitian cross sectional, yang dilakukan di poliklinik jantung RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang. Penelitian dilakukan pada tanggal 05 Mei s/d 04 September 2017. Populasi adalah keluarga yang mendampingi pasien dengan penyakit jantung koroner. Dengan jumlah populasi 1157 orang. Sampel berjumlah 94 orang simple random sampling pengolahan data melalui analisa data secara univariat dan bivariat.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kejadian serangan jantung (68,1%.), sikap negatif (57,4%) tindakan yang tidak baik (59,6%). Di temukan adanya hubungan yang bermakna sikap keluarga dengan kejadian serangan jantung koroner (p=0,003) dan ada hubungan yang bermakna tindakan keluarga terhadap kejadian serangan jantung koroner (p=0,004). Hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada hubungan yang bermakna antara sikap dan tindakan keluarga terhadap kejadian serangan jantung koroner. Peneliti menyarankan kepada perawat di poliklinik jantung untuk dapat memberikan penyuluhan tentang pemahaman sikap, dan tindakan keluarga terhadap penyakit jantung koroner dan upaya pengendaliannya.. Families need to have the attitude of accepting patients, give a positive response, appreciate the patient as family members and foster an attitude of responsibility to the patient, so the balance of life in the family may occur. The existence of the soul in the family of disorders affecting the function of the family. Families that work well will be able to provide care on a family member with good and vice versa. Research objectives to analyzed the influence of psikoedukasi on stress management in improving self efficacy and mechanism of ODGJ in caring for families koping (Schizophrenia). Design research is to take the pretest-posttest alphabets experiment pre design. The research of the variable Psikoedukasi as the independent variable and self efficacy and mechanism of the dependent variables as koping.

This study aims to produce a learning trajectory using takraw teams context in helping students to understand the concept of combinations. This research used design research to give in developing local instructional theory in learning combinations. Learning trajectory designed in the early phases and tested on 36 tenth-grade students in SMA N 15 Palembang. This result is a learning trajectory  which consists of 3 activities using takraw teams context:1) student do role-play scene of selecting main teams and handshake between players, this supports students to understanding in combinations order doesn’t matter. 2) students analyze the general pattern of combination with the knowledge of students about the factorial. 3) student solve problems related to combination helps students in thinking about how to solve a real-world problem related to combination. From the resulting activity can be concluded that learning to use takraw teams context can help students understand the concept of combinations.

<p>High-density living has always been proclaimed as a way of the future, but the future is now here and we are plagued by inadequate, uninviting city-living environments. This design research paper aims to produce an alternate design method that can be applied to apartment living in New Zealand to produce positive, affordable apartment designs.  The late 20th and early 21st centuries has seen urban New Zealand become an increasingly popular place to live. Large numbers are drawn to the cities by the convenience of closer proximity to amenities and greater job prospects. This urbanisation overlaps with the constant growth of the country’s overall population which, combined, puts pressure on cities as land becomes an increasingly rare commodity. In response, cities often expand outward. The negative effect of this has been heavily documented.  The introduction of high density living solutions has attempted to combat the ever increasing ‘suburban sprawl.’ Many apartment complexes have risen in response to this demand, especially in the cities of Auckland and Wellington. However, this is where the problem develops. A large proportion of smaller, more affordable apartments have been identifi ed to be poorly designed, producing low quality spaces and unsatisfactory living environments. Moreover, the public perception of these ‘shoebox’ apartments is highly negative.  This research not only investigates the issues associated with the small apartments in New Zealand but seeks to improve upon them by learning from an international precedent. The Japanese architectural movement of Kyosho-Jutaku or Micro-living provides urban accommodation through space effi cient stand-alone dwellings. These dwellings were developed in response to the harsh urban and economic conditions in the early 1990s and continue to be built throughout Japan’s urban prefectures. The architects of Japanese micro-architecture approach small spaces with design strategies resulting in interiors which appear expansive beyond their physical limits and produce quality living environments. Through the analysis and diagrammatic formulation of these Japanese micro-architecture design strategies, this research aims to produce an applicable technique for ‘micro’ design in New Zealand. The contexts are removed allowing the singular strategies to be understood and manipulated, expanding the design possibilities for each technique. Ultimately, this thesis tests the applicability of planning and spatial design strategies, adapted from Japanese micro-architecture, to a New Zealand context in the development of small, high quality urban apartments.</p>
