Detection of breakdown voltage and diagnostics of the pre-breakdown state of a material is a topical task of studying the characteristics of dielectric materials and structures on their base under applied external electric field. A new efficient method for diagnosing the pre-breakdown state of multilayer structures (MLC) based on the 0.55PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3-0.45PbSc1/2Nb1/2O3 (PMN-PSN) ferroelectric relaxor is considered. The method is based on the analysis of the dynamics of the MLC surface temperature changes upon application of an external electric field. A set of MLC samples was tested under the action of an electric field E = 10 - 120 kV/cm at temperatures from room temperature to 80 ℃. The critical electric field value characterizing the pre-breakdown state and, consequently, limiting the upper level of operating voltages for electrocaloric applications, was determined for PMN-PSN multilayer structures.

Model was developed for the prediction of polarization characteristics in a dielectric material exhibiting piezoelectricity and electrostriction based on mathematical equations and MATLAB computer simulation software. The model was developed based on equations of polarization and piezoelectric constitutive law and the functional coefficient of Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) crystal material used was 2.3×10-6 m (thickness), the model further allows the input of basic material and calculation of parameters of applied voltage levels, applied stress, pressure, dielectric material properties and so on, to generate the polarization curve, strain curve and the expected deformation change in the material length charts. The mathematical model revealed that an application of 5 volts across the terminals of a 2.3×10-6 m thick dielectric material (PZT) predicted a 1.95×10-9 m change in length of the material, which indicates piezoelectric properties. Both polarization and electric field curve as well as strain and voltage curve were also generated and the result revealed a linear proportionality of the compared parameters, indicating a resultant increase in the electric field yields higher polarization of the dielectric materials atmosphere.

Background: Boron Nitride Nanotubes (BNNTs) have recently emerged as an interesting field of study, because they could be used for the realization of developed, integrated and compact nanostructures to be formulated. BNNTs with similar surface morphology, alternating B and N atoms completely substitute for C atoms in a graphitic-like sheet with nearly no alterations in atomic spacing, with uniformity in dispersion in the solution, and readily applicable in biomedical applications with no obvious toxicity. Also demonstrating a good cell interaction and cell targeting. Aim and Objective: With a purpose of increasing the field of BNNT for drug delivery, a theoretical investigation of the interaction of Melatonin, Vitamin C, Glutathione and lipoic acid antioxidants using (9, 0) zigzag BNNTs is shown using density functional theory. Methods: The geometries corresponding to Melatonin, Vitamin C, Glutathione and lipoic acid and BNNT with different lengths were individually optimized with the DMOL3 program at the LDA/ DNP (fine) level of theory. Results: In the presence of external electric field Melatonin, Vitamin C, Glutathione and lipoic acid could be absorbed considerably on BNNT with lengths 22 and 29 Å, as the adsorption energy values in the presence of external electric field are considerably increased. Conclusion: The external electric field is an appropriate technique for adsorbing and storing antioxidants on BNNTs. Moreover, it is believed that applying the external electric field may be a proper method for controlling release rate of drugs.
