Marital satisfaction is not something that comes naturally to a person. The greater the individual's awareness and life skills, the more content he or she is with marriage. One of the factors that can inuence marital satisfaction is trait emotional intelligence. Previous research has found that individuals with higher emotional intelligence are more aware of their own and others' emotions, are better at managing their marital relationships, are better at resolving disagreements, and are better at dealing with marital dilemmas. The current study aimed to investigate the inuence of trait emotional intelligence on marital satisfaction among married couples in India. There were 304 participants (152 females and 152 males) from various cities across India. To assess participants' emotional intelligence and marital satisfaction, the TEIQue-SF and ENRICH-SF were used. The statistical analysis was determined using the Chi-square, Kruskal-Wallis, and Mann-Whitney U tests. Results indicated participants with better emotional intelligence had higher marital satisfaction. Except for the sociability level of emotional intelligence, the gender difference was not signicant in any of the scores. Hence, concluded that higher levels of emotional intelligence lead to greater marital satisfaction. The current ndings are useful for psychotherapists in general, and couple therapists in particular. Further research will help to clarify this discovery

Emotion, both positive and negative, is one of the markers of intimate relationships. Attachment theory is one of the primary conceptual frameworks for understanding emotion regulation. There is a well-established link in the literature between secure romantic attachment style and emotional intelligence (EI) in scientic studies. The underlying processes of this link among couples are notably less explored in the Indian context. As an attempt to bridge the gap, the present study analyzed the inuence of attachment styles and EI interplay on marital satisfaction among Indian couples. The study considered 304 respondents (152 females, 152 males, ranged from -25 to 65+ years old) with a marriage duration greater than three years. To assess participants attachment styles, EI, and marital satisfaction, Revised Adult Attachment Scale (RAAS; Collins, 1996), Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (TEIQue; Petrides, 2009) and ENRICH Marital Satisfaction Scale (EMS; Fowers & Olson, 1993) were used respectively. Two-way ANOVA was used to analyse the data. The result revealed that there is a signicant interaction between attachment styles and global EI on marital satisfaction. Psychotherapists and counsellors in general, and couple therapists in particular, will benet from the current research. Considering the limitation of the study, further investigation is recommended.

In Ghana, collectivism holds people together in marital relationships, even if partners are religiously different. Married partners still hurt, betray, or offend each other and might develop avoidance or vengeful (i.e., unforgiving) motives. We investigated whether religious homogamy moderated connections of personality and marriage variables to unforgiving motives. Heterosexual married couples (N = 176 heterosexual married couples; N = 352 individuals; mean marriage duration 10.89 years) participated. Most identified as Christian (83.5% males; 82.3% females) or Muslim (11.9% males; 14.3% females). Couple religious homogamy was related directly to lower unforgiving motives. Religious homogamy did not moderate the connection between some personality variables (i.e., agreeableness and trait forgivingness) and unforgiving motives. Religiously unmatched couples tended to have greater unforgiveness at higher levels of neuroticism and lower forbearing, marital satisfaction, and marital commitment relative to religiously matched couples. One implication is that couple therapists need to assess partner neuroticism, marriage climate (i.e., satisfaction and commitment), and the general tendency to forbear when offended. Those can combine to produce unforgiving relationships, which might make progress in couple therapy improbable.
