The present research paper attempts to provide an exemplary step-by-step description of the improvement and tailoring process of an existing assessment to provide practical guidelines to English teachers. The theories, tools, and techniques mentioned in the study are expected to serve as guidelines for teachers in their assessment literacy improvement paths. To make the guidelines more practical and self-explicatory to teachers/readers, this investigation deals with the modification of an existing assessment (quiz test) used in one of the English for Specific Courses (ESP) – Business English module for future logisticians, which is provided in the context of higher education (HE) institution – Inha University in Tashkent (IUT). The research aims to tailor the modern test (unit quiz) and make it meet the needs of a learner and the Common European Framework of References (CEFR) standards; principally, it also intends to ensure that the test responds to the five principles of assessment: reliability, practicality, validity, washback, and authenticity. This case study covers the description of the study subject, analysis of a test used at schools the study subject attends, and its modified version. The implemented research methods involved qualitative and quantitative data collection tools such as pre- and post-interviews with the subject, pre- and post-tests, observation, and feedback. The result of this study which was scrutinized based on the piloting outcomes, showed that it was successfully polished and oriented to the topical learner profile at this HE institution. Besides, the test eventually meets the assessment principles because of the adjustments, which make it suitable for the CEFR standards.

The purpose of this study was study analyze the students’ error in writing argumentative essay. The researcher focuses on errors of verb, concord and learner language. This study took 20 students as the subject of research from the third semester. The data took from observation and documentation. Based on the result of the data analysis there are some errors still found on the student’s argumentative essay in English writing? The common errors which repeatedly appear are verb. The second is concord, and learner languages are the smallest error. From 20 samples that took, the frequency the errors of verb are 12 items (60%), concord are 8 items (40%), learner languages are 7 items (35%). As a result, verb has the biggest number of common errors.

The purpose of this research is (1) analyze student’s concept in answering the association test, (2) analyze the concept of understanding  relationship  to  answer  the test depends on the student’s school origin.The method used in this research is qualitative with case study approach. In clustering sampling technique the subject was used in this research is 6 students, shared  in  3  groups.  They  are  2  students come from public vocational school, 2 students come from public senior high school and 2 students come from private senior high school and vocational school. Data was collected through test and interview.   Data   analysis   used   in   this research refers to Milles and Huberman in Moellong’s book; they are data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing. The result showed that the student’s understanding is various enough in answering the  set  test.  Depending on  the first subject analysis (S1) who came from private school, he did not understand about the concept of set. The second subject analysis (S2) and the third subject analysis (S3)  who  came  from  public  school,  they had understood. But, they need to be careful and patient to avoid the mistakes. The data which  had  gained from deeply interview, showed that the subject analysis (S1), (S2) and (S3) were able to indicate the relationship of school origin with the student’s concept of understanding within answering the set test.

This study explored the motivation factors of charitable giving and their value structure. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were employed. Six components were found which individually stand for the dimensions of the motivation factors of charitable giving: a good deed, altruism, a desire for social responsibility, a desire for the common good, mass psychology, and a showing off reward-expecting manner. Two different networks among the factors of charitable giving were shown: one represented a notion of social and individual virtue, and the other referred to a notion of selfishness. Therefore, it can be said that people give to charities both in order to demonstrate their virtue, and to satisfy their selfishness.

In fields with high science linkage, such as the nanocarbon field, trends in academic papers are particularly important for identifying future technological trends. The use of the number of citations allows us to predict the qualitative trends on a paper-by-paper basis. At the same time, it is necessary to be able to comprehensively discuss both qualitative and quantitative aspects in the subject area. This study aimed to detect emerging areas in the nanocarbon field using network models and topic models. It was possible to not only construct a model that exceeded an 86.2% F1 measure but also to focus on an area that could not be detected by the prediction model. This was accomplished by focusing on paper units, such as the research on the chemical synthesis of zigzag single-walled carbon nanotubes. Thus, it is possible to obtain knowledge that contributes to diversified R&D strategies and innovation policies by considering the emergence of new fields from multiple perspectives.

As pousadas são meios de hospedagem de pequeno porte, com um atendimento mais personalizado, e muitas vezes realizado diretamente pelos seus proprietários. Porém, independentemente do tamanho e da capacidade de um meio de hospedagem, ele pode investir em uma oferta de lazer, da mais simples, com algumas atividades, até a mais completa, com estrutura de equipamentos e serviços que buscam atender as expectativas de lazer dos hóspedes, contribuindo com isso para uma valoração de mercado. Esta pesquisa é um estudo de caso, com dados coletados em pesquisa bibliográfica, em artigos publicados sobre o tema, e entrevistas estruturadas, que através de dois métodos, quali-quantitativos, de coleta e análise de dados, teve como objetivo analisar a oferta de lazer das pousadas da Rota do Lambari, em Porto União, SC, os serviços e os equipamentos que estão sendo oferecidos aos hóspedes. Como resultado se observou uma oferta de lazer grande e variada na maioria delas, e uma oferta não focada somente no pescador, mas que atende a toda a família e outros hóspedes que não exercem a pesca. O lazer em pousadas de pesca: um estudo de caso na Rota do Lambari, Porto União (SC) ABSTRACT The lodges are small lodging facilities, with a more personalized service, and often performed directly by its owners. However, regardless of the size and capacity of a host resource, it can invest in a range of leisure, the simplest, with some activities to the fullest, with equipment structure and services that aim to meet the leisure expectations guests, a contributing factor to a market valuation. This research is a case study, with data collected in literature, in articles published on the subject, and structured interviews, which through two methods, qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, aimed to analyze the supply of leisure, hotels and Rota do Lambari, in the city of Porto União, SC, services and equipment that are being offered to guests. As a result it was observed offered a large and varied leisure in most of them, and not focused only offer the fisherman, but that caters to the whole family and other guests not engaged in fishing. The aim of this study was to analyze, the development of a second language adult learner. Pedro who was the subject of this study is A1 user according to the Common European Framework of Reference, it means that he can make an introduction and use basic greeting and leave-taking expressions. The analysis was based on an interview where the researchers focused their attention on aspects related to phonology, morphosyntax, vocabulary and pragmatics, code-switching, and other anomalies. The results showed that in the participant’s speaking there are theories, methods, and concepts that are presented implicitly or explicitly. It was also found out that our participant Pedro had many first language interference errors as they were explained along the analysis.

Leadership and governance are very important aspects of living in any civilized society. It is however, imperative to note that leadership unfolds over time in different models, ideologies and approaches, by the different leaders. This gives connotation to the concept of transitional justice to ensure a smooth and meaningful change of power or leadership from one model or person to another to avoid despotism and anarchy. This paper debates the ideology of transitional justice and its focus on the subject of how societies should transit from authoritarian rule to democracy in order to address a persistent history of massive human rights abuses. This piece of work brings light on how societies across the world ought to deal with their evil pasts. The paper fronts Ethiopia as a case study to have an in-depth perspective of the trends and dynamics involved in transitional justice. The discussion is specifically limited on Ethiopia, focusing mainly on the transition which took place in 1991. The paper circumspectly handles key democratic issues in governance and in that respect shades light on what the concept of transitional justice is and its implications in governance and social relations of any country. It gives insights into how Ethiopia dealt with its past after the transition, discusses the lessons learnt, and the common alternatives always available to both government leaders and the populace in dealing with their past.

Post-Brexit, UK law conforming to Directives of the European Union such as the value added tax (VAT) Directive will remain in effect and UK courts will be permitted to consider decisions of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) when interpreting that law. How UK common law courts, steeped in the tradition of the doctrine of precedent, will use CJEU judgments in the post-Brexit era has been the subject of much speculation. This article considers the question in the context of a case study, looking at the application by UK courts of CJEU decisions in an important area of VAT law, the treatment of customer loyalty plan benefits. The evidence suggests that, even prior to Brexit, UK courts had started to pursue a separate path, declining to follow CJEU precedents that yielded clearly inappropriate policy outcomes. If the results of the case study are replicated more widely in UK rulings, it can be expected that the influence of CJEU judgments may taper off where formalistic and literalist CJEU interpretations have led to outcomes inconsistent with the recognized policy intent of UK law.

This paper demonstrates how a range of linguistic methods can be harnessed in pursuit of a deeper understanding of the ‘lived experience’ of psychological disorders. It argues that such methods should be applied more in medical contexts, especially in medical humanities. Key extracts from The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath are examined, as a case study of the experience of depression. Combinations of qualitative and quantitative linguistic methods, and inter- and intra-textual comparisons are used to consider distinctive patterns in the use of metaphor, personal pronouns and (the semantics of) verbs, as well as other relevant aspects of language. Qualitative techniques provide in-depth insights, while quantitative corpus methods make the analyses more robust and ensure the breadth necessary to gain insights into the individual experience. Depression emerges as a highly complex and sometimes potentially contradictory experience for Plath, involving both a sense of apathy and inner turmoil. It involves a sense of a split self, trapped in a state that one cannot overcome, and intense self-focus, a turning in on oneself and a view of the world that is both more negative and more polarized than the norm. It is argued that a linguistic approach is useful beyond this specific case.
