The present research discusses the significance of the cognitive interpretation of conceptual information in belles-lettres as a key element in the process of revelation of implicit information veiled by the author. The adequate interpretation of cognitive context affects deeper understanding of the author’s intention and explicates the general idea of a literary text. Moreover, it may help to reveal some characteristic features of the personages or author’s modality related to the described events. Several approaches, which emphasize the correlation between research methods of cognitive linguistics, literary studies, and interpretation of a literary text were observed in the article. The analysis was implemented with the attraction of such research methods as observation, linguistic description, and method of contextual analysis. It was assumed that such phenomenon as intertextuality and, in particular, allusion, plays an important role in constructing the conceptual structure of belles-lettres text. The selected examples justified the main conclusions, which were obtained at the end of the present research.

The article analyzes the peculiarities of the representation of time and space model in the collection of short stories «Wessex Tales» by the English writer T.Hardy. Based on a contextual analysis of T. Hardy’s stories, time and space model was singled out as the dominant meaning for the creation of «Wessex Tales». It is proved that the category of time in «Wessex Tales» is a component of the composition of works (in some stories the principle of framing is used). Its functioning in the collection occurs in the form of a two-component model, the elements of which are past and present. It is determined that the specific presentation of the past is a combination of «collective» and «individual» time. While presenting individual facts in the lives of specific heroes in the form of «individual» time, the author introduces them into the context of events of community life in the form of «collective» time. Each individual character’s story thus becomes a part of panoramic depiction of Wessex world, while maintaining a connection with real historical events. «Quasi-historicity» is defined as one of the characteristic features of time. The interaction of temporal levels has also been investigated at the level of conflicts and problems in the writer’s stories and novels (the problem of responsibility for actions, the problem of moral choice, etc.). The peculiarity of space organization in the collection of stories is determined by multilevel (panoramic – local image; realistic – mythopoeticized sketches of the metaphorical plan; the existence of two subspaces in the mythologized model of the world) and multivariate. The article analyzes the closed and open, terrestrial and cosmic, real and imaginary spaces that are realized in the system of images (city, town, house, road, etc.).

The purpose of this paper is to clarify the nature of research methods in the history of economic thought. In reviewing the "techniques" which are involved in the discipline, four broader categories are identified: a) textual exegesis; b) "rational reconstructions"; c) "contextual analysis"; and d) "historical narrative". After examining these different styles of doing history of economic thought, the paper addresses the question of its appraisal, namely what is good history of economic thought. Moreover, it is argued that there is a distinction to be made between doing economics and doing history of economic thought. The latter requires the greatest possible respect for contexts and texts, both published and unpublished; the former entails constructing a theoretical framework that is in some respects freer, not bound by derivation, from the authors. Finally, the paper draws upon Econlit records to assess what has been done in the subject in the last two decades in order to frame some considerations on how the past may impinge on the future.

The article presents the results of the study of aesthetic function of interrogative utterances in the novel "Waterland" by G. Swift. The methods of component analysis, contextual analysis, and stylistic analysis were used in the research. The author assumes that interrogative utterances play the key role in representing imagery of the novel, facilitating thematical and conceptual unity, forming the chronotope and presentation of the inner world of the narrator. It was also found that interrogative utterances function in expressing emotivity and psychologism of a literary text as well as actualizing implicit senses, e. g. of certain images and episodes by means of such stylistic devices as aposiopesis, parenthesis, repetition, ellipsis and others. In general, the author assumes that in their aesthetic function interrogative utterances serve to convey the individual aesthetic model presented by the author in a literary text.

The purpose of the research. The article consider value consciousness is a special sphere of human consciousness that has its own structure and characteristic features. It was discovered in the phenomenological axiology of E. Husserl, M. Scheler, N. Hartmann and D. von Hildebrand. One of the main achievements was the discovery of value intuition-a sense of comprehension of values. The purpose of this article is to systematize knowledge about value consciousness. Results. Value consciousness has its own structure: value intuition; affectivity; free will; evaluation, evaluative judgments; rationality and prejudice of value. The value prejudice plays a general idea of the value consciousness. The way to realize value consciousness is a value response. It performs cognitive and praxiological roles. The definition of value consciousness is given as a way of correlating the real and ideal worlds, through which a person enters into value relations with the world and embodies values. The boundaries between personal and group types of value consciousness are drawn: individual consciousness is more affective, values are realized only through it, it is more complex. Positive and negative experiences, especially suffering and the feeling of death, are identified as sources of value consciousness formation. The fundamental characteristic of value consciousness is its determination by both ideal and real worlds, which leads to the emergence of “disconnection”. This is alienation from objective being, good, higher values as a result of the defeat of consciousness by “value blindness”, moral indifference. They are based on the love of low things, due to the inability to know the highest values.

We consider the equivalence of source and translation texts. Currently, various ways to achieve the adequacy of texts are being studied, which proves the relevance of this problem. We propose equivalence techniques based on the reproduction of the content side of the text that conveys the author’s meaning. In this case the purpose of the study is to describe the strategies of meaning, the strategies of transformations used by the poet to achieve the adequacy of the source text content. The study applied the methods of comparative and translation analysis. The characteristic features of the translation, the correlation of the concepts “literary text”, “image of the author”, “author’s modality”, “idiostyle of the author” are analyzed in the research. The components of the modeled system and its types are identified and justified. Based on the study, we propose ways to achieve the adequacy of the content side of the text, the equivalence of translations based on the material of Abai’s poetry texts. We substantiate the ways to achieve equivalence of the author’s modality using strategies for transforming formal means of the idiostyle of the source text. We also prove the possibility of using the method of reproducing the source text content through the strategy of meaning and transformation.

One of the major issues in contemporary text linguistics is the analysis of the cognitive principles of distributing information in a literary text. Literary text unlike other types of the texts holds subtextual and conceptual information which could be encoded by the readers when they identify foregrounded parts of the text. Foregrounding is the type of cognitive principles of distributing information in the text and its main function is guiding the readers in interpretation of hidden and conceptual message of the text by showing some signals (important extracts) to the readers. In this article, the types and techniques of foregrounding are discussed, and their usages are observed in the short story The Luncheon by S. Maugham.
