This study aims to help kindergarten students to acquire basic literacy in English through the use of Letterland which is believed to be a fun and exciting program which can produce a natural outcome. This study utilizes qualitative and quantitative approach. The research design of this study is case study in order to make intensive analysis on how kindergarten students acquire Basic English literacy through Letterland. The study presents a description on how effective and helpful Letterland is in helping kindergarten students acquire basic literacy. This study can be used to provide local teachers or educators with the ideas in implementing the phonics approach in teaching Basic English literacy. There are number of factors that enable students to acquire the Basic English literacy; however, this study focuses on the application of Letterland. Findings  showed that Letterland is useful to help kindergarten students in school K in acquiring Basic English literacy. Students recognized the initial, medial and final sounds. The teachers implemented Letterland with a proper class settings, sufficient teaching aids, and proper teaching-learning process. Keyword – Letterland, Basic English Literacy, Kindergarten

Language and Mathematics are both skills and knowledge that need to master well so that it can be the provision for students’ future life when mingling with the community or society. Because of that the integration of teaching both language and Mathematics in bilingual Math learning will give many benefits to the students. They will learn not only how to interact with others by improving their communication skills but also how to develop their Math concepts and skills. Moreover students will also get lots of advantages by learning Mathematics bilingually. This study aimed to find out the development of the students’ English for Math ability in numbers and number sense in which the process of teaching learning is equipped with teaching aids based on local wisdom. The participants were 30 kindergarten students. The study used descriptive qualitative method and the results revealed that the teaching learning activities with teaching aids designed based on local wisdom have a significant effect on the development of both kindergarten students’ performance in English for Math activities and their love toward the local products found in their surrounding environment.

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk meminjam persekitaran pengajaran-pembelajaran sains di Sekolah Bestari dalam menyediakan peluang pemupukan kemahiran proses sains (KPS) di kalangan pelajar. Kajian ini merupakan kajian kes jenis kualitatif. Seramai 24 pelajar dan 2 orang guru dipilih menjadi peserta kajian dari dua buah Sekolah Bestari. Hasil analisis dokumen menunjukkan bahawa kurikulum memainkan peranan penting dalam menentukan perancangan pemupukan kemahiran proses sains. Kajian ini mendapati peluang pemupukan kemahiran proses sains wujud dalam proses pengajaran-pembelajaran sains di Sekolah Bestari. Peluang pemupukan ini didapati daripada kaedah pengajaran dan bahan pengajaran-pembelajaran yang digunakan. Kaedah perbincangan memupuk banyak jenis kemahiran proses sains berbanding kaedah pengajaran yang lain. Kemahiran proses sains yang paling kerap dipupuk melalui kaedah perbincangan adalah kemahiran berkomunikasi. Bahan pengajaran-pembelajaran yang memupuk paling banyak jenis kemahiran proses sains ialah penggunaan pengurusan grafik. Kajian ini juga mencadangkan model pemupukan kemahiran proses sains. Kata kunci: Kemahiran projek sains, Sekolah Bestari, pemupukan, pengajaran-pembelajaran This study aims at exploring science teaching-learning environment of smart schools in providing opportunities to incalculate science process skills amongst students. This is a case study using a qualitative method. 24 students and 2 teachers from two smart schools were chosen as the participants. Document analysis indicates that the curriculum plays a major role in determining the planning of incalculating science process skills. This study shows that opportunities to incalculate science process skills exist in the teaching-learning process of science in smart schools, through the use of teaching methods and teaching aids. The discussion method incalculates more science process skills compared to other methods of teaching. This science process skills that is most incalculated through the discussions methods is the communication skill. Graphic organizer used as a teaching aid was found to incalculate and the most variety of science process skills. This study also suggests a model for the incalculation of science process skills. This study aimed to describe the use of direct instruction in English learning for gifted students. This research applied a case study approach. The participants of this study were an English teacher and five students of a special junior high school for gifted students of grades 7 and 8 in the acceleration program. The data were collected through in-depth interview, focused-group interview, observation, and document analysis. The data were qualitatively analyzed through transcribing, data condensing, data displaying through a matrix, and conclusion drawing. The result showed that the teacher used the teaching strategies for direct instruction which were supported by some appropriate teaching aids. The impact of the strategies on the students were the students were actively involved in the teaching-learning process although they still encountered some difficulties in their English learning process. However, the teacher needed to employ other strategies which could meet the other needs of the gifted students in the teaching-learning process.

This study aims to obtain a description of the supporting and inhibiting factors in the process of organizational change of education based on management perspective that occurs in the scope of higher health education of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. This study used a qualitative approach by conducting case study at Palangka Raya Health Polytechnic. The research results are as follows: (a) Supporting factor that must be there is the existence of a manual or technical guidance in organizing the organization; (b) Whereas the inhibiting factor is the old habits, the mindset, the mental model is still inhibiting from the organizers and members of the organization; (c) The inhibiting factor is the existence of selfishness of each highly visible party; (d) Inhibitors may also occur if there are still "little kings" and selfishness from each of the former institutions; (e) Other issues that support in this process of change are in terms of facilities and infrastructure, namely the availability of buildings and land; (f) Another inhibiting factor is that in terms of educational qualifications, there are departments that do not meet, for example in the midwifery department there are still many average teachers with Diploma IV education background and non-linear education; (g) Inhibiting factors may also occur if the reason of seniority is always carried around; (h) The inhibiting factor is lack of human resources in using modern health equipment, including the use of teaching aids in accordance with the progress of science and teaching and learning technology.   Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperolah gambaran mengenai faktor pendukung dan penghambat dalam proses perubahan organisasi pendidikan yang ditinjau dari perspektif manajemen yang terjadi di lingkup organisasi pendidikan tinggi kesehatan Kementerian Kesehatan Republik Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan melakukan studi kasus pada institusi Politeknik Kesehatan Kemenkes Palangka Raya. Hasil penelitian adalah sebagai berikut: (a) Faktor pendukung yang harus ada yaitu adanya buku pedoman atau petunjuk teknis dalam penyelenggaraan organisasi; (b) Sedangkan yang menjadi faktor penghambat itu adalah kebiasaan lama, mindset-nya, mental model-nya masih bersifat menghambat dari para pengelola dan anggota organisasi; (c) Faktor penghambat yaitu adanya keegoisan masing-masing pihak yang sangat tampak; (d) Penghambat juga dapat terjadi apabila masih ada “raja-raja kecil” dan keegoisan dari masing-masing institusi yang dulu; (e) Perihal lain yang mendukung dalam proses perubahan ini adalah dari sisi sarana dan prasarana, yaitu tersedianya gedung dan tanah; (f) Faktor penghambat lain yaitu dari sisi kualifikasi pendidikan ternyata ada jurusan yang tidak memenuhi, misalnya di jurusan kebidanan masih banyak rata-rata tenaga pengajar dengan latar pendidikan Diploma IV dan pendidikannya tidak linear; (g) Faktor penghambat juga dapat terjadi apabila alasan senioritas selalu dibawa-bawa; (h) Faktor penghambat yaitu masih kurang kesiapan sumber daya manusia dalam menggunakan alat-alat kesehatan modern termasuk penggunaan alat bantu belajar mengajar yang sesuai dengan kemajuan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi pengajaran dan pembelajaran.

This paper demonstrates how a range of linguistic methods can be harnessed in pursuit of a deeper understanding of the ‘lived experience’ of psychological disorders. It argues that such methods should be applied more in medical contexts, especially in medical humanities. Key extracts from The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath are examined, as a case study of the experience of depression. Combinations of qualitative and quantitative linguistic methods, and inter- and intra-textual comparisons are used to consider distinctive patterns in the use of metaphor, personal pronouns and (the semantics of) verbs, as well as other relevant aspects of language. Qualitative techniques provide in-depth insights, while quantitative corpus methods make the analyses more robust and ensure the breadth necessary to gain insights into the individual experience. Depression emerges as a highly complex and sometimes potentially contradictory experience for Plath, involving both a sense of apathy and inner turmoil. It involves a sense of a split self, trapped in a state that one cannot overcome, and intense self-focus, a turning in on oneself and a view of the world that is both more negative and more polarized than the norm. It is argued that a linguistic approach is useful beyond this specific case.

Background: New world syndrome like obesity is one of the world’s oldest metabolic disorders is heading for the rocks with various reasons like urbanization and modernization. Though obesity and over weight is not affecting much to a person for daily living, the complication of which has become burning issue in the society. Aim and Objective: To assess the efficacy of Shamanoushadi along with Pathya Ahara Vihara. Methods: Guduchi Bhadraadi Kashaya, Hareetaki Churna and Pathya Ahara Vihara. Results: Management of Sthoulya with Pathya Ahara Vihara along with Shamanoushadi was effective in all qualitative and quantitative data. Discussion: The drug possessing Rooksha Guna, Kaphahara property counteracts Sthoulya. Conclusion: Our classics with variety of treatment to individual disease suggest the stages or condition that disease can cross over

This book seeks to explain why and how banks ‘game the system’. More specifically, its objective is to account for why banks are so often involved in cases of misconduct and why those cases often involve the exploitation of tax systems. To do this, a case study is presented in Part I of the book. This case study concerns a highly complex transaction (often referred to as ‘cum-ex’) designed to exploit a flaw at the intersection of the tax system and the financial markets settlements system. It was entered into by a very large number of banks and other financial institutions. A number of factors make the cum-ex transaction remarkable, including the sheer scale of the financial amounts involved, the large number of banks and financial institutions involved, the comprehensive failure of the controls infrastructure in this highly regulated sector, and the fact that authorities across Europe have found it so difficult to deal with the transaction. Part II of the book draws out the wider significance of cum-ex and what it tells us about modern banks and their interactions with tax systems. The account demonstrates why the exploitation of tax systems by banks is practically inevitable due to a variety of systemic features of the financial markets and of tax systems themselves. A number of possible responses to the current position are suggested in the final chapter.

The mental wellness of university students can be critical for their success. In an attempt to minimize stress for students, many universities have implemented a policy for a fall break with limited evidence to support its intended outcomes. This case study offers a critical appraisal of the formation of the fall break policy at one medium sized comprehensive university using qualitative and quantitative forms of evidence triangulated from (1) University Student Union survey, (2) document analysis and; (3) informant interview. The lack of uniformity on how the fall break is labelled, the timing of the break and its evaluation emerged as design flaws in the creation stage that perhaps, could have been mitigated if faculty and student voices were included in policy creation decisions.

An analysis is presented in this study that provides insight into a practical training process and its impact on teachers and their viewpoints toward the integrated STEM approach used in that training process, together with educational coding and robotics, over the first years of compulsory primary education, where STEM implementations are relatively new. A case study was developed by two teachers following the practical training course, including pre- and post-interviews and nonparticipative observation of their classroom practices during the teacher-training sessions. The results revealed the positive perspectives that the teachers held toward the STEM-integrated approach and educational coding and robotics, despite the difficulties that arose in classroom practice. It was concluded that the STEM approach and its methods were beneficial both to pupils and to teachers alike for improving the teaching–learning process.

This paper communicates the results of a diagnostic evaluation of the performance of boys and girls in physical sciences at Ordinary level in Uganda after the adoption of the compulsory science policy. The objectives of the study were twofold: to examine the academic performance of boys and girls in the Uganda National Examinations from 2007 to 2010, and to highlight key factors that continue to influence the achievement of students, especially girls in sciences. Data was obtained from five co-educational secondary schools using documentary reviews, in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. The results revealed that the performance of both boys and girls have further declined after the implementation of the compulsory science policy. However, in comparison to the boys, girls in co-educational schools were still more likely to be among the poorest performers in sciences. This was attributed to a number of factors, key among them being girls' self-concept in sciences, and teachers' perception of girls' abilities in sciences. These findings reiterate the need to mainstream gender into both policy design and implementation.
