In contrast to computationally advanced methods of road pavement dynamic analysis, the one-dimensional, simple method is derived on the basis of visco-elastic simple beam lying on generalized Winkler visco-elastic foundation. By virtue of least square method the visco-elastic constants could be estimated with technically admissible accuracy. The introduced method is useful enough to predict any pavement deformation process in the range of linear visco-elasticity.

In the dynamic point-to-point communication, to track and aim at antenna fast and accurately is the guarantee of high quality communication signal. In order to solve the problem of antenna alignment, we used the least square method (LSM) to fit the optimal level signal value (LSV) point which is based on coordinate coarse tracking alignment and matrix scanning strategy to find the LSV in this paper. Antenna is driven by two-dimensional turntable (azimuth and elevation angle (AE)): the two-dimensional turntable is decomposed into two independent one-dimensional turntables, and the LSV in AE direction are obtained by scanning, respectively. The optimal LSV point of two-dimensional turntable can be find by combing optimal LSV point of two independent one-dimensional turntables. The method has the advantages of high precision and easy implementation and can meet the requirement of fast and accurately alignment in dynamic point-to-point communication antenna engineering.

To overcome the shortcomings of the Bouc–Wen model, such as too many parameters, complex identification process, and long time consuming, the sensitivity of parameters was analyzed. A Bouc–Wen optimum model with sensitive parameters to guarantee calculating accuracy was established. First, according to the results of the magnetorheological damper’s mechanical property test, the sensitivity of Bouc–Wen model’s parameters was analyzed by the one-at-a-time method. Optimization of the Bouc–Wen model was completed. Second, the parameters of the Bouc–Wen optimum model were identified under three harmonic excitations. Compared with the original Bouc–Wen model, the differences of calculation accuracy were 0.0055, 0.0007, and 0.0070 respectively. And the convergence rate of the fitness function for parameter identification increased by 67.89%, 49.94%, and 67.24%, respectively. And the iteration time of 1000 iterations was shortened by 36.52%, 25.95%, and 64.11%, respectively. It indicates that the Bouc–Wen optimum model had higher efficiency and certain accuracy in parameter identification process. Then, the calculation accuracy of Bouc–Wen optimum model with independent and coupled mean parameters were analyzed respectively. Finally, the parameters of the Bouc–Wen optimum model and current were fitted by the least square method. The results showed that the Bouc–Wen optimum model can accurately and efficiently simulate the dynamic characteristics of magnetorheological dampers.

The comprehensive elastic properties of Suvin cotton fibre have been estimated. The Linked Atom Least Square method (LALS) technique has been employed to compute the structural properties using the X-ray diffraction data. Using Treloar’s assumptions the elastic stiffness matrix |Cij| has been calculated, then by utilizing the Voigt theory the elastic constants like Young’s modulus (E), Bulk modulus (K), Shear modulus (G), Poisson’s ratio (ν) and linear compressibility (β) have been estimated. Further, the experimental results of elastic constants are obtained and compared with the computed results and a broad correlation between them has been observed. ELATE web application tool is used to obtain the 3-dimensional images of variation of elastic constants along their spatial axes. From these figures an attempt has been made to explain the anisotropic mechanical property with respect to directional dependent Young’s modulus (E) and Shear modulus properties (G).

We have developed a simple method to construct local equilibrium function for lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). This new method can make LBM model satisfy compressible flow with a flexible specific-heat ratio. Test cases, including the one-dimensional Sod flow, one-dimensional Lax flow and thermal Couette flow are presented. Good results obtained using proposed new method, indicate that the proposed method is potentially capable of constructing of the local equilibrium function for LBM.

In this study, we introduce a new category of neurofuzzy networks – Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks and develop a comprehensive design methodology involving mechanisms of genetic optimization, and genetic algorithms, in particular. The augmented genetically optimized FPNN (referred to as gFPNN) is a structurally optimized architecture which comes with a higher level of flexibility in comparison to the one we have encountered in the conventional FPNN. The GA-based design procedure being applied to each layer of FPNN leads to the selection of preferred nodes (or FPNs) available within the FPNN. In the sequel, two general optimization mechanisms are explored. First, the structural optimization is realized via GAs whereas for the ensuing detailed parametric optimization is carried out in the setting of a standard least square method-based learning. The performance of the gFPNN is quantified through experimentation where we use a number of modeling benchmarks – synthetic and experimental data already experimented with in fuzzy or neurofuzzy modeling.

In this paper, the relationship between 50% ac flashover voltage (U50) of long porcelain insulator string and ρESDD and ρNSDD was analyzed based on experimental results. It was shown that the relationship between U50 and ρESDD is the same as the one between U50 and ρNSDD, in which the U50 reduces with the increase of ρESDD by a power function, and the influences of ρESDD and ρNSDD on U50 are mutually independent. By using the least square method, the value of exponent of a and b were determined.

Analysis of the one-dimensional sine-Gordon equation is performed using the improved moving least-square Ritz method (IMLS-Ritz method). The improved moving least-square approximation is employed to approximate the 1D displacement field. A system of discrete equations is obtained by application of the Ritz minimization procedure. The effectiveness and accuracy of the IMLS-Ritz method for the sine-Gordon equation are investigated by numerical examples in this paper.

A one-dimensional numerical model of a 340 mile section of the St. Lawrence River has been formulated to study tidal propagation. For a more detailed study of the flow distribution in a localised section of the river a two-dimensional model was used. A half mile square grid was used to schematise an area of approximately 20 miles long by 15 miles wide. This two-dimensional model was embodied within the one-dimensional model to permit a free interaction of flow across the boundaries. For the one-dimensional case, a comparison of model and prototype results is included for both elevation and velocity. For the two-dimensional model a comparison of flow distribution was made by using field results obtained from photographing ice movement and from drogue movement. To interpret the results of the two-dimensional model into a simple method of flow visualisation, use was made of animation techniques. A movie film was made that demonstrates both tidal rise and fall and the associated horizontal velocities. Elevation was reproduced by use of varying shades of coloured paper to simulate contours, velocities were represented by simulating drogue movement to produce smoke streaks.

Due to unbalanced speed-density observations, the one-regime traffic fundamental diagram and speed-density relationship models using least square method (LSM) cannot reflect actual conditions under congested/jam traffic. In that case, it is inevitable to adopt the weighted least square method (WLSM). This paper used freeway Georgia State Route 400 observation data and proposed 5 weight determination methods except the LSM to analyse 5 wellknown one-regime speed-density models to determine the best calibrating models. The results indicated that different one-regime speed-density models have different best calibrating models, for Greenberg, it was possible to find a specific weight using LSM, which is similar for Underwood and Northwestern Models, but different for that one known as 3PL model. An interesting case is the Newell's Model which fits well with two distinct calibration weights. This paper can make contribution to calibrating a more precise traffic fundamental diagram.
