The minimal ballast water crude oil tanker has the design of a trapezoidal-shape inclined bilge entirely instead of the regular U-shaped tanker, also known as the trapezoidal tanker, which reduces the amount of the ballast water. This type of ship does not only reduce the cost on ballast water management, but also is beneficial to the environment for reducing the risk of water pollution. Since it is a new design, there are no applicable specifications for the assessment of structural strength at present. In order to find out characteristics of the yielding and buckling strength of this type of ship, the strength of a conventional tanker and a trapezoidal tanker are calculated by a finite element method and then compared with a variety of cases. It can be seen that the trapezoidal tanker has lots of advantages in strength and lighting weight.

This paper reflects, from an industrialist's perspective, on 25 years' operation of the Water Pollution Act in The Netherlands. The Act empowers Water Boards to implement national policy on water quality. These Boards may be regarded as a model for cooperation between the general public and industry, two partners that are both polluters and sufferers from pollution. Oxygen-consuming and heavy metal pollutants are considered as examples of the significant improvements achieved over the past quarter century.

As the population grows and the uncontrolled industrialization, urbanization rises as well, it is high time we should give proper attention to the fact of river pollution in our country which is deploying harmful impacts both on human health and environmental, aquatic ecosystem. A plethora of studies have been done on different aspects of river water pollution. In this paper a thorough discussion regarding this fact has been presented compiling a number of important studies on it. Major causes behind this pollution have been mentioned widely, like improper management of industrial and sewage effluents. However, to detect this contamination in the major rivers of Bangladesh, various studies have been done to see the physicochemical properties of the water, such as pH, turbidity, color, odor, DO, TOD, COD, TSS, EC, dissolved metal, and other chemical and bacteriological substances etc. The microorganisms within the water are the prime sources to cause different water borne diseases like Diarrhea, Cholera, Scabies and Asthma. To find out the remedies to this problem, urgent emphasis should be given on preventive measures and to take appropriate steps to halt and improve the existing pollution of the rivers. A lot of water treatment systems are being practiced throughout the world to restore the health of the rivers as well as to reuse the waste water. Though the systems are not much popular in Bangladesh, the government should facilitates the practice of them extensively and strengthen the laws against environmental pollution.

Many activities and the continuous disposal of waste water has resulted water pollution in Tukad Rangda. Tukad Rangda's water quality over the last five years (2012-2016) indicated experiencing contamination with decreasing water quality. The condition indicates the need of serious effort to maintain the water quality of Tukad Rangda. The purpose of this research is to know the perception and behavior of head of household and businesses in conducting waste water management that potentially causing Tukad Rangda water contamination, determining water quality and water quality status based on the Pollution Index, and determining appropriate alternative strategies to control water pollution in Tukad Rangda. Sample was collected by purposive sampling. Water samples was taken at three point: on the upstream, middle, and downstream of Tukad Rangda. Samples are analyzed in situ and in laboratory. Determination of perception and community behavior based on questionnaires and interviews to households and businesses. The data obtained were analyzed by force-field analysis to determine alternative strategy of Tukad Rangda water contamination control. The results of perception analysis of households and businesses on waste water management that has the potential to cause Tukad Rangda water contamination shows well-categorized results. However, for the behavior of head of households and businesses on waste water management that potentially causing Tukad Rangda water pollution, each of them showing results that can be categorized as quite good and less good respectively. Water quality of Tukad Rangda at upstream, middle, and downstream areas have exceeded the water quality standard class II in accordance with the Bali Governor Regulations No. 16 year 2016 for these parameters: BOD, COD, phosphate, and lead. Water quality status of Tukad Rangda based on Method of Pollution Index at upstream, middle, and downstream classified slightly contaminated. Based on force-field analysis, the alternative strategy obtained is increasing the insight and understanding about waste water management to the community, water waste management regulation at household scale, coaching, supervision, and law enforcement against businesses violating the applicable regulations, providing waste water treatment facilities, as well as the development of Tukad Rangda as water tourism area through the involvement of community participation.

Vietnam is currently facing major challenges from ongoing water pollution in urban rivers. In the city of Hanoi, the amount of domestic waste water, industrial waste water, and waste water from unprocessed trade villages are discharged directly into the rivers, which are the main causes of water pollution. The biggest problem now is how to deal with the current state of water pollution in the inner rivers of Hanoi with the focus on Day, Nhue, and To Lich river systems. This article presents the study to determine Route Works for a gravity based water supply system that provides continuous flows to these rivers. Then, the one-dimensional hydrodynamic model (HEC-RAS V4.1) is used as a basis for assessing the effectiveness of the solution. Through the results of the study, it was once again confirmed that the construction of a gravity based water supply system is feasible, both to improve the aquatic environment of the rivers and to ensure the supply of irrigation water for production.

Domestic waste water has high levels of BOD, COD, TSS, Turbidity and pH. Therefore, it need futher processing so that the conditions is safe when discharged in river or lake. One of waste water treatment is combination of settlement tank and fixed-bed coloumn up-flow. This equipment is selected because the price is affordable, materials and equipment can be obtained, and easy to operate. The main purpose of this study is to decrease levels of turbidity, TSS and BOD. Decreased parameters are affected by time of seetlement tank, time of effluent contact and high of sand beds. Result of research on settelement tank aerob obtained highest percentage of turbidity, TSS and BOD decrease in 6 day settlement tank with value 48.21%, 75.27% and 52.84%. In a continuous fixed-bed coloumn up-flow with aeration time,  6-day in settlement tank, obtained the highest percentage of turbidity reduction at 20 cm sand bed height of 18.57%, while the highest percentage of TSS and BOD reduction in sand bed height was 30 cm is 41.46% and 11.23%.
