NUKEM monitor FAMOS is designed to measure the burn up of fuel assemblies (FA’s) and allows the calculation of the content of fissile material and other actinides. The knowledge of the isotopic composition and activities of FA’s is required for a safe handling and storage of the elements. The monitor analyses the measurement results on the basis of burn up calculations which improve the quality of the results, with respect to previous systems, which did not use those.

There is increasing concern in the medical community regarding the safe handling and storage of biological materials procured from patients with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD). Neurosurgeons have refused to operate on CJD patients, pathologists have refused to do autopsies on CJD patients, and hospitals have discharged CJD patients without confirmation of their diagnoses. This attitude was exemplified in the case of a director of a pathology laboratory who was so concerned about the safety of his laboratory personnel that he proposed to incinerate his entire collection of CJD slides. This extreme example is typical of the hysteria common among medical colleagues regarding the safe handling of CJD biological materials.

It is the study of river cargo terminals possibilities for storing and reloading vehicles on river vessels / from river vessels. Description of the current situation on the country's transport market and examples of the organization of combined transport involving road and rail transport for the transport of general cargo in transport-developed countries are given. Proposals for attracting river transport to the organization of combined transport have been made. The available base is the fleet, coastal terminals. Existing requirements and regulations applicable to such terminals are shown. Their analysis and projection on the further development of transportation of highly tariffed general cargo in combined communications with the participation of river transport are made.
