This Special Issue wants to outline the role of Geoheritage and Geotourism as potential touristic resources of a region. The term “Geoheritage” refers to a peculiar type of natural resources represented by sites of special geological significance, rarity or beauty that are representative of a region and of its geological history, events and processes. These sites are also known as “geosites” and, as well as archaeological, architectonic and historical ones, they can be considered as part of the cultural estate of a country. “Geotourism” is an emerging type of sustainable tourism, which concentrates on geosites, furnishing to visitors knowledge, environmental education and amusement. In this meaning, Geotourism may be very useful for geological Sciences divulgation and may furnish additional opportunities for the development of rural areas, generally not included among the main touristic attractions. The collected papers focused on these main topics with different methods and approaches and can be grouped as follows: (i) papers dealing with geosites promotion and valorisation in protected areas; (ii) papers dealing with geosites promotion and valorisation in non-protected areas; (iii) papers dealing with geosites promotion by exhibition, remote sensing analysis and apps; (iv) papers investigating geotourism and geoheritage from the tourists’ perspective.

Different research perspectives on the transition into work are presented, and some trends and shortcomings are discussed. It is argued that an orientation toward transition as a crisis no longer seems appropriate for research. Rather, various contextual schemes embedding different courses of transition and the “gradualness” in a context of life-long learning actually characterise this period. The six articles of the special issue are commented upon with regard to the study of the transition into work domain. General conclusions are summarised into eight points, claiming for example that societal events and contextual structures are important factors, that psychological attributes measured individually appear to be relatively stable whereas configurations may change considerably, and that job satisfaction is only partially determined by dispositions. The conclusion also suggests moving away from a global perspective on transition as a change, toward a more micro-behaviourally focused dynamic approach.

At the turn of the millennium, the Journal of Sustainable Tourism special issue on collaboration and partnerships (Bramwell & Lane, 1999), and the book Tourism Collaboration and Partnership: Politics, practice and sustainability (Bramwell & Lane, 2000), set the agenda for research about the role of collaboration in sustainable tourism. Since then, many more articles on the topic have been published and as a result a solid corpus of knowledge has emerged over the years. This lit- erature can be divided into three main blocks according to whether the focus is on collaborative structures for sustainable tourism (partnerships, networks and governance), on stakeholder identification and involvement, or on the obstacles that these collaborative processes may face.
