In this study, we describe the results of an analysis of the effectiveness of providing pedestrian safety services, in terms of reducing pedestrian traffic accidents. We conducted our analysis by investigating the speed of vehicles at two different demonstration points, where the same system and service were provided. For this purpose, we selected a child protection zone and a point on a general road section where a raised crossing is installed. We conducted vehicle speed surveys at the point adjacent to the crosswalk and the points where the driver is expected to be fully provided with information, in order to examine the change in vehicle approach speed, depending on the provision of the service. Overall, the analysis showed that the vehicle’s speed at the point and approaching speed decreased when the pedestrian safety service was provided; however, the effect was more pronounced in the child protection zone, considering the characteristics of the demonstration points. From these results, we conclude that it is necessary to provide services and develop guidelines considering the surrounding environment, such as traffic safety facilities and road safety facilities, according to the characteristics and classification of each point, in order to provide efficient pedestrian safety services.

With the development of economy, there are an increasing number of cars as well as traffic accidents, thus intensifying the need to take measures to reduce traffic accidents and protect the safety of life and property. Vehicle distance is one of the most important indexes of traffic safety. The measurement of safety vehicle distance has become an increasingly hot research area of intelligent transportation. Through analyzing the basic principle of stereo vision and calibrating the parameters of the CCD sensors both inside and outside, this paper comes up with a method to measure the former vehicle distance based on stereo vision and DSP. Once the vehicle speed and distance form a non-security association, it will give a warning, and upload data or force speed-limiting. According to the different coordinates of the obtained images of the target vehicle from the left and the right sensor, this method can identify feature points, calculate distance to the target vehicle, and analyze the security of vehicle distance. The experimental results show that this method has wide measurement range, high measurement accuracy, and fast operation rate, thus it can meet the actual needs of the measurement of safe vehicle distance in intelligent transportation.

The issues of public transport service, its quality, road safety along the route are becoming a priority worldwide. After all, ensuring the safety of public transport serves to increase its attractiveness. Research-based on different approaches to road safety is being conducted in the areas. However, the issue of road safety in public transport remains relevant. Traffic accidents on bus routes occur mainly at intersections, haul sections, and intermediate stops. Intersections of single-level highways are among the areas where traffic accidents are most likely to occur. It should be noted that the assessment of road safety in public transport is based not only on traffic accidents and violations but also on the intensity and variability of traffic and pedestrian traffic, the degree of organization of traffic, road condition and geometric elements, parameters of intermediate stations and many other factors. It is advisable to tie. Therefore, this research work aims to assess the traffic safety of directional buses and consists of several stages. This article is devoted to improving the method of assessing road safety at intersections of single-level highways.

Traffic safety mainly depends on vehicles, pedestrians and road infrastructure. On highways, the heaviest traffic accidents are associated with crossing of the dividing strips by a vehicle and its collision with side obstacles on the junction or road bridge exit. These accidents often occur, when vehicles, running at a high speed, collide with obstacles, which may cause human injuries. In such cases, the probability of fatalities or heavy injuries to people in a traffic accident is very high. Road traffic infrastructure plays an important part in ensuring traffic safety on urban roads and highways. It includes guardrails, speed bumps, pedestrian safety islands, traffic regulation systems, road information infrastructure, etc. Guardrail (known as civil engineering element and traffic safety element) installation may help to reduce the number of human injuries and fatalities caused by traffic accidents. Guardrails of various types are installed on the roads of Lithuania and Ukraine. Guardrails, consisting of metal posts of the profile Σ and a protective beam of the profile W, i.e. ‘double-wave guardrails’, are among the most commonly used ones. The authors of this paper present the analysis of the deformation state of a double-wave guardrail (describing the strains and stresses of its elements).

In traffic safety, various methods, procedures and techniques are adapted for traffic safety needs. Diverse methods lead to a different degree of exactness, accuracy and precision. The selection of research methods depends primarily on the research objective. Research methods most frequently applied for traffic safety include a statistical method, experiment, observation, tests, a questionnaire and interview, a comparison and analogy, etc. Each method has its advantages and disadvantages; however, a well devised combination of several methods and the reliability of research results can be increased. The problem of danger for pedestrians, as vulnerable road users, is constantly expressed and present in all regions. Therefore, special attention should be paid to pedestrian safety. To determine danger spots for pedestrians, the analyses of traffic accidents are most frequently used, which is the so called reactive approach to traffic safety improvement. Apart from the reactive approach, for the purpose of preventing traffic accidents in the future, it is necessary to combine some of the methods that can proactively indicate potential danger spots for pedestrians. This paper shows the method of identifying and ranking danger spots for pedestrians on micro locations, which incorporates the analysis of traffic accidents, the examination of the subjective attitudes of participants in traffic and the use of a conflict technique. Along with the so called ‘overlapping’ danger spots detected in the analysis of traffic accidents, danger spots detected based on the analysis of the subjective attitudes of pedestrians and drivers and danger spots detected in the conflict technique, a map of the so called objective and subjective danger spots is obtained. By eliminating all such identified danger spots, black spots as well as potential traffic accidents are removed. The method presented in this paper can be a very useful tool for decision-makers, for improving pedestrian safety on a micro location and for allocating funds.

The majority of traffic accidents on the highway is rear-end collision. According to statistics about ninety percent rear-end collision can be avoided if there is 1 second pretreatment time for drivers. So it is necessary to develop automotive rear-end collision warning system to prevent the occurrence of accidents. The anti-rear-end collision warning system based on Zigbee technology is designded in this paper. Vehicle speed, acceleration and other traffic information among the nodes can be exchanged on real-time by using self-organizing wireless sensor networks consisted by Zigbee network nodes. A vehicle safe distance model is established after considered the effects of other traffic safety factors, and then, the actual distance measured by radar is compared with the safe distance so as to provide early warning, alarm and other driving information to drivers. The experiment results show that the system can effectively provide early warning, avoid rear-end collision, and improve active safety of vehicles.

Abstract   The number of traffic accidents that occur in Indramayu Regency continues to increase and causes many casualties and material losses. From the available data, it is known that there is one road section which is an accident-prone area, namely the North Coast Java Road section, KM 46-47, which is located in Patrol District, Indramayu Regency. The flow and speed of traffic on this road is quite high, because of its function as a primary arterial road. This study aims to improve safety on the North Coast Java Road section, KM 46-47. The method used is in the form of observation and field data collection. Furthermore, the data obtained is processed, analyzed, and followed by formulating appropriate recommendations. This study shows that the main cause of accidents is the human factor, especially those related to high traffic speeds. To improve the existing conditions, it is proposed to provide road equipment, especially traffic signs, which are adjusted to the stopping sight distance required by motorized vehicles using the road. In addition, it is necessary to apply speed management as part of efforts to improve traffic safety.   Keywords: traffic accident; stopping sight distance; road equipment, traffic speed; traffic signs.     Abstrak   Angka kecelakaan lalu lintas yang terjadi di Kabupaten Indramayu terus meningkat dan menyebabkan banyak korban jiwa dan kerugian material. Based on the traffic accidents statistical data of 10 typical freeways in mainland China, by using of some kinds of regression model, the influences of the average vehicle speed and the speed standard deviation on the traffic safety are studied. According to the regression results, the accidents show an increasing trend with the increase of the vehicle average speed and the speed standard deviation. On this basis, in view of the regression results, the strategy is put forward for controlling the vehicle average speed and the speed standard deviation, which has important theoretical and practical significance for improving highway safety. After a comprehensive comparison among these regression methods, it is found that the nonlinear regression method of user-defined model expression has the best fitting effect, and it can also more accurately describe the objective reality. It has high practicality and popularized value.

During a journey, motor vehicles are subjected to different types of irregularities in the pavement. Some of these irregularities are introduced for a specific purpose over a stretch of road to slow down the vehicle at certain road points. However, the influence of installed speed bumps reveals certain additional effects which must be deeply analyzed to ensure vehicle and pedestrian safety. In some cases, it has been found that even when driving over transverse bands at a speed below the legal limit, the vehicle is damaged or tires lose grip with the pavement, precluding any kind of braking or turning maneuvers. Such phenomena indicate that either this element is not properly sized or the location is not appropriate, becoming counterproductive for traffic safety. In order to analyze the influence of these irregularities on the different components of the vehicle and its occupants, a simulation program with MatlabTM has been developed. The validated developed tool takes into account several aspects of the vehicle dynamics, bump geometry, and vehicle speed. The proposed tool provides the best possible information to establish a set of guidelines for the proper design and installation of speed bumps in different roads.
