The proposed research aims to investigate the concept of creative urban sustainability. We asked, what are the factors conditioning creativity in spaces where cultures meet in cities and how do they stimulate urban sustainable development. The empirical material analysed are the results of interviews conducted with cultural managers. We introduce philosophical and sociological approaches based mainly on criticism of writing and the analytical and synthetic method. In the framework of the creative city we illustrate Lublin’s model of spatial innovations, in which culture and creativity have convergence with economic development. We conclude with a conceptual discussion of the creative urban sustainability problems. In particular, we reveal how these issues could help in shaping a theoretic consensus about the function of spaces planning in sustainable development strategies emphasising the importance of creativity as a social resource and also as an agent of social and economic change.

The sustainability of urban cities has been the focus of significant academic research in recent years and is emphasized in Goal 11 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this study, we adopted the Drive-Pressure-State-Impact-Response model (DPSIR) to promote a conceptual study of sustainable development index (SDI) to compare the different urban sustainable development status and try to find the factors that affect the urban sustainable development. The framework of indicators we used is mainly based on Goal 11 of the SDGs’ targets and indicators. We chose six cities in the Shaanxi Province of China and studied them from 2008 to 2018. The results show that: (1) the sustainable development of urban cities is greatly influenced by China’s national economic development plans and urban development strategies; (2) the economic growth and management level of authorities can significantly promote urban sustainability; (3) the urban sustainability of the six cities in Shaanxi Province showed a significant imbalance and this imbalance affected the overall development of the region; (4) compared with Guanzhong urban agglomeration, Shannan urban agglomeration is subject to the policy needs of environmental protection in the Qinling mountain area and its economic development is restricted; therefore, its urban sustainability is relatively low. Theoretical contributions are presented to assist in addressing these challenges and to support policies and initiatives that move these cities in China towards achieving SDG 11.

The environmental crisis caused by rapid global urbanization has led to many public health problems, which has gradually become the new normal in the process of achieving sustainable urban development. This study aims to reveal the relationships between health, environment, and urban sustainability from a multidisciplinary perspective. Based on the existing research dimensions of urban sustainable development, the necessity, rationality, and feasibility of introducing the health dimension are proposed, and the research framework of health and urban sustainability is integrated and reconstructed. It is pointed out that scholars and policy makers should take the urban environment as the platform, take the duality of health and sustainability as the starting point, reconstruct the research framework of urban sustainability based on the health dimension, and provide a new theoretical perspective for the realization of urban sustainable development under the new normal.

Resource-based city has many characteristics of urban sustainable development, but because of resource's gradual depletion, population explosion and the depravation of natural ecological environment, it is more special in the road of sustainable development. The sustainable development of resource-based city has more urgency, complexity and difficulty, so traditional linear model of economic development has been unable to realize its sustainable development. Building on circular economy characterized by closing material cycle, to achieve the harmony of human and nature, the economic development and environment protection win-win strategy goal is an inevitable trend.

Typologization of rural areas, taking into account differences in population density and level of socio-economic development, is necessary to identify “growth points” and strategic sustainability benchmarks. The method of integrated assessment of the level of socio-economic development of rural territories is proposed, according to which the grouping of Russian regions is carried out. Applying data on rural population density to the results of calculations allowed us to identify 12 typological groups, in the context of which unified recommendations on sustainable development of territories should be formed.

Rural settlements occupy a significant part of the territory of Russia, where about 25% of the population lives and significant natural resource potential is concentrated, but the level of their socio-economic development is significantly inferior to urban ones. Increasing depressiveness of rural areas and spatial socio-economic differentiation is a systemic problem and an obstacle to the balanced development of the national economy, reduces its competitiveness due to insufficient use of economic potential, creates challenges to the economic and national security of the state. A powerful tool for countering such trends is the formation and implementation of the potential for the development of small agribusiness, which is mainly based on households created in the form of peasant (farmer) and personal subsidiary associations. The article ana-lyzes the potential of small agribusiness development in rural areas.

The article deals with the problem of achieving sustainable development. The purpose of this study is to reveal the relationship between the components of sustainable development, taking into account the involvement of indigenous peoples in nature conservation. Climate change makes achieving sustainable development more difficult. Indigenous peoples are the first to feel the effects of climate change and play an important role in the environmental monitoring of their places of residence. The natural environment is the basis of life for indigenous peoples, and biological resources are the main source of food security. In the future, the importance of bioresources will increase, which is why economic development cannot be considered independently. It is assumed that the components of resilience are interrelated and influence each other. To identify this relationship, a model for the correlation of sustainable development components was developed. The model is based on the methods of correlation analysis and allows to determine the tightness of the relationship between economic development and its ecological footprint in the face of climate change. The correlation model was tested on the statistical materials of state reports on the environmental situation in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Yugra. The approbation revealed a strong positive relationship between two components of sustainable development of the region: economy and ecology.

“Innovation driven” is the proper term for promoting regional sustainable development under the general goal of national high-quality development. University–industry collaboration (UIC) has become an important innovation resource for regional sustainable development. The study aims to analyze the influencing factors and mediating mechanisms of university–industry collaboration scientific and technological (S&T) and business activities oriented for regional sustainable development in 30 provinces in China (excluding Tibet). Specifically, we used the partial least squares (PLS) structural equation modeling method to test the effects of innovation climate and resource endowments on regional sustainable development through two mode pathways of university–industry collaboration activities. The results show that the innovation climate and resource endowments significantly affect UIC in scientific and technological innovation activities, and then affect the regional economic development and human capital. UIC S&T innovation activities play positive mediating roles in promoting regional sustainable development. In addition, the innovation climate does not significantly impact the business activities of UIC. Therefore, region can get a greater sustainable development through UIC S&T innovation activities than business activities. Much more UIC S&T activities can improve the economic development, human capital, and environmental conditions in the region.
