The article deals with the influence of the infrastructure for public transport on the delay time of private and public transport in the city. The study employed the methods of simulation, mathematical modeling and field research. Imitation microscopic modeling determined the parameters of mathematical models of the delay time of private and public transport for various parameters of the bus lane, the length of the bus stop loading area, and its distance from the signalized intersection. Calculations determined the total delay time, taking into account the number of passengers in public and private transport on the section of the main street of regulated traffic. Determining the optimum parameters of the public transport infrastructure requires considering not only public transport passengers, but also drivers and passengers of private vehicles. Over-improving parameters of the bus lane has no effect on public transport, but traffic parameters for all other road users degrade. At high traffic intensity, the dependences of the total delay time on the length of the marking lines 1.11 and 1.5 are described by the parabola equation. The values for a road with three lanes have been determined, marking lines 1.11 and 1.5 at which the total delay time is minimal. For a highway with a high intensity, minimum bus stop parameters lead to significant increases in delay time.

The following methods were used in the study: simulation, mathematical modeling, on-site research. As a result of imitation microscopic modeling, there have been determined the parameters of mathematical models of the delay time of private and public transport for various parameters of the route vehicles` lane. Calculations determined the total delay time, taking into account the number of passengers in public and private transport on the section of the main street with regulated traffic. In determining the optimum parameters of the public transport infrastructure, it is necessary to take into account not only public transport passengers, but also drivers and passengers of private vehicles.

Setting state of bus stop affects the efficiency of the entire road system. Through discussing bus bay stop’s width, length and distance to intersection, a microscopic simulation was conducted in this paper. With a certain bus frequency, the total delay time of vehicles was analyzed under different road traffic in different forms of Da Yanta Bus Station in Xi’an. The results show that setting bus bay stops on the secondary roads which have large traffic flow can significantly reduce delay time, and can provide references for urban road design.

Approximately 50% of Indonesia's population lives in cities. One of these towns is a metropolitan city of Jakarta, an area that has a population of over 14.1 million people. New residential areas are springing up in the suburbs of Jakarta due to the urban sprawl that is increasingly out of control. Thus the activities of traveling from home to work will be a major requirement, and this activity has given rise to problems such as traffic jam. In this study, the research conducted on the data of public transportation in Jakarta, which is followed by a literature review, from books, the internet and the results of a survey involving 130 respondents about the use of public and private transport in Jakarta. In addition to the survey, also conducted a comparative study to look directly into the field one factor supporting public transport, the MRT station in Singapore and TransJakarta bus stop on Jalan Sudirman, and do a comparison analysis. The purpose of this paper is to come up with new solutions in public transport facilities presenting a friendly and optimized for all the people of Jakarta. The method used was to collect data through surveys and literature studies.

The presence of roundabouts in the central business districts (CBD) of cities can reduce the travel speed of bus rapid transit (BRT) along the radial routes. A throughabout is an unconventional and low-cost design in which the central island is split to provide exclusive lanes for major traffic streams. Although the operation of throughabout has been limitedly investigated for private transport, it has been less considered by designers for public transport and for increasing the speed of the BRT system. The current study aims to evaluate the effects of throughabouts on private and public transports and to compare the design with standard roundabouts and conventional intersections. The calibrated and validated results of the microsimulation tool (AIMSUN) indicated that the throughabout improved the travel time of both public and private transports through better use of the space and kept the traffic flowing at all volume levels. The travel speed of the BRT in the throughabout was remarkably stable in both signal-controlled and unsignalized intersections. The standard roundabout was the second-best design. The throughabout can be very helpful in corridors along which the demand for the bus transit is high and the system needs to receive priority.

Energy conservation in the passenger transport sector of cities is an important policy matter. There is a long history of transport energy conservation, dating back to the first global oil crisis in 1973–1974, the importance and significance of which is explained briefly in this paper. Detailed empirical data on private and public passenger transport energy use are provided for Sweden’s ten largest cities in 2015 (Stockholm, Göteborg, Malmö, Linköping, Helsingborg, Uppsala, Jönköping, Örebro, Västerås and Umeå), as well as Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, which is a benchmark small city, well-known globally for its sustainability credentials, including mobility. These data on per capita energy use in private and public transport, as well as consumption rates per vehicle kilometer and passenger kilometer for every mode in each Swedish city and Freiburg, are compared with each other and with comprehensive earlier data on a large sample of US, Australian, Canadian, European and Asian cities. Swedish cities are found to have similar levels of per capita car use and energy use in private transport as those found in other European cities, but in the context of significantly lower densities. Possible reasons for the observed Swedish patterns are explored through detailed data on their land use, public and private transport infrastructure, and service and mobility characteristics. Relative to their comparatively low densities, Swedish cities are found to have healthy levels of public transport provision, relatively good public transport usage and very healthy levels of walking and cycling, all of which help to contribute to their moderate car use and energy use.

Abstract Webcare via public and private social media. A corpus study on the effect of Conversational Human Voice in the PT sectorThis study investigates the use of Conversational Human Voice (CHV) by a Dutch Public Transport (PT) operator in reactive webcare conversations with travelers on private and public social media channels and the effect of this use on the traveler’s sentiment during the conversation. In this study, CHV is unraveled into eight aspects. 244 conversations were analyzed, selected from the PT-operator’s public and private social media channels. Messages sent by the PT companies were coded for CHV; messages of travelers were coded for sentiment. The aspects organization responds as an individual and informal language were used the most often by the PT operator. Use of CHV is similar on private social networks and public social networks, with the exception of organization responds as an individual (used more on private social networks) and language to compensate the lack of non-verbal communication (used more on public social networks). Furthermore, results show that the use of sympathy has a positive effect on the traveler’s sentiment.

Platformization affects the entire urban transport sector, effectively blurring the division between private and public transport modalities; existing public–private arrangements have started to shift as a result. This chapter analyzes and discusses the emergence of a platform ecology for urban transport, focusing on two central public values: the quality of urban transport and the organization of labor and workers’ rights. Using the prism of platform mechanisms, it analyzes how the sector of urban transport is changing societal organization in various urban areas across the world. Datafication has allowed numerous new actors to offer their bike-, car-, or ride-sharing services online; selection mechanisms help match old and new complementors with passengers. Similarly, new connective platforms are emerging, most prominently transport network companies such as Uber and Lyft that offer public and private transport options, as well as new platforms offering integrated transport services, often referred to as “mobility as a service.”


This book focuses on the relationship between private and public education in a comparative context. The contributors emphasize the relationship between private choices and public policy as they affect the division of labor between public and private non-profit schools, colleges, and universities. Their essays examine the kinds of choices offered by each sector, as well as the effects of present and proposed public policies on the intersectoral division of labor. Written from neither a pro-private nor a pro-public point of view, the contributors point to the ways in which they believe one sector or the other may be preferable for certain goals or groups.

To mitigate car traffic problems, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) issued a document that provides guidelines for sustainable development and the promotion of public transport. The efficiency of the policies and strategies needs to be evaluated to improve the performance of public transportation networks. To assess the performance of a public transport network, it is first necessary to select evaluation criteria. Based on existing indicators, this research proposes a public transport criteria matrix that includes the basic public transport infrastructure level, public transport service level, economic benefit level, and sustainable development level. A public transport criteria matrix AHP model is established to assess the performance of public transport networks. The established model selects appropriate evaluation criteria based on existing performance standards. It is applied to study the Stonnington, Bayswater, and Cockburn public transport network, representing a series of land use and transport policy backgrounds. The local public transport authorities can apply the established transport criteria matrix AHP model to monitor the performance of a public transport network and provide guidance for its improvement.

The purpose of this study was to examine the associations between child health, parent racial regard, and parent physical health in 87 African American and Black parents/caregivers of children with and without asthma from a low-income, under-resourced urban area. Participants completed the Private and Public Regard subscales of the Multidimensional Inventory of Black Identity (MIBI) and 12-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-12). Parents of children with asthma reported having poorer physical health, while those with higher public and private racial regard reported better physical health. The association between public regard and physical health was surpassed by an interaction of child asthma status and public regard: as public regard decreased, so did physical health, but only for parents raising a child with asthma. Findings suggest that the stresses associated with raising a child with chronic illness and perceiving lower public racial regard may together confer additional risk for poor physical health in African American and Black parents.
