Risk allocation plays a crucial role in the successful development of public-private partnership (PPP) projects. However, despite being an important topic for scholars and practitioners, the existing literature does not provide sufficient evidence on how managing risks in solicited (SP) and unsolicited (USP) road PPP projects, and subsequently, on what the sustainability implications are for such managerial processes. This study aims to extend risk allocation studies by analyzing contracts in Chilean highway PPPs over the last decade based on a systematic content analysis framework and case study data. The framework was developed through line-by-line coding of contract provisions associated with risk-related issues, and data were collected from semi-structured interviews with Chilean PPP practitioners. Results show that, although the majority of risks are either shared or transferred to the private party in most contracts, there are important variations in the way allocation procedures are implemented for SPs and USPs. Contracts analyzed revealed that risk arrangement mechanisms have usually focused on the economic dimension of sustainability without fully incorporating social and environmental considerations, increasing protests in the long-term. Conclusions indicate that risk allocation procedures and sustainability considerations are highly dependent on project-specific features and contextual factors. Overall, the analysis uncovers that the level of autonomy given to the private sector in both SPs and USPs has contributed to properly manage technical and economic risks, but has failed to successfully allocate social and environmental concerns.

This study aims to analyze the ability of its own capital owned by Bisi International Tbk to guarantee all of its debts. So the approach used is a case study. Data collection is done by documentation method and the data taken is secondary data. The data comes from the 2017- 2019 financial statements. The analysis technique in this study uses financial ratios, namely comparing total debt with own capital. The results of research and studies reveal that the company's financial condition, especially the guarantee of capital on debt, tends to be in good condition. This can be seen from the amount of each rupiah of own capital that is able to cover every rupiah of costs. This research needs to be expanded by analyzing the relationship and the influence of other components that affect the improvement of the company's financial performance.   Keywords: Current Debt, Long-Term Debt, Own Capital

Abstract In this article, the objective was to analyze the challenges faced by successors in the succession process in family businesses, considering different gender combinations. The research is applied, qualitative and exploratory, being a comparative case study. Data were collected through in-depth structured interviews at six companies in Monte Carmelo City, MG, and content analysis was used for the data treatment. The results show that in the successor/successed combinations (father/son – father/daughter – mother/son – mother/daughter), there are similarities: conflicts among members, lack of planning, disability feeling on successors despite the business passion. In joint management (sucessed/successor), there are hard conflicts when the sucessed is male (father/son and father/daughter). In effecting the succession process, women/sisters are set apart when sucessed/successors are male (father/son) and vice versa, men/brothers are set apart when there is a mother/daughter combination. Finally, male successors do not need to prove their abilities to succeed (father/son and mother/son), but in women successors this is an essential issue (father/daughter and mother/daughter). Keywords: Family businesses. Succession process. Gender.

Religious beliefs are not only profound, some of them are also pervasive, persistent and persuasive. It follows that the cultural and religious experiences of communities often play a central role in determining their worldviews and the ways in which they understand their own circumstances. These worldviews, it follows, can thereby assist in providing narratives for community development in places that have particular meaning to these communities and individuals within them, and thereby enhance the long-term success of such initiatives. One often-overlooked aspect in research up until recently is the role that these often sacred places can play in sustainable development. This paper undertakes a study of development spaces situated in sacred places, in this case of a women’s Buddhist monastery on the outskirts of Bangkok, Thailand, devoted to gender equity. It begins with an overview of research pertaining to religion and development, religion in contemporary societies, and sacred places, and concludes with an analysis of the case study data that recognizes the need to consider the significance of sacred places, and narratives attached to them, in sustainable community development.

The aim of this study is to examine preschoolers' tablet use and evaluate parents' opinions concerning it. To this end, the study made use of a case study design which is a means of qualitative research. The sample of the study consists of five preschoolers and their parents. The study data was gathered with observations related to preschoolers' tablet use, examinations of the applications in children's tablets and semi-structured interviews with parents. The analysis framework for tablet use was structured based on the document review process and data concerning observations and interviews underwent content analysis. The study findings suggest that parents have some specific criteria when determining tablet games, that they worry about children's tablet PC use but they take precautions against them. Also, entertaining children, parental effects and lack of outdoor games are other influential factors in tablet PC use. Parents also accept tablets as useful education tools. The study findings also demonstrate that preschoolers use tablets mainly for playing games, and that parents' knowledge about tablets is generally limited to game applications. The study results can be interpreted as that parents generally emphasize the educational features of game applications in tablets, and they are recommended and supported to learn about different applications so as to improve children's development.

Social vulnerability still affects many people, especially if there are no public policies on education, welfare, health and safety. It can have negative consequences both physical, and psychic. Amidst this scenario, it is clear that art can bring benefits to the individual. We chose to roost for this research to be a wide artistic expression, involving various expressions, as well as being one of the largest and oldest art forms in Brazil, with traces of the black community that was enslaved in colonial and imperial Brazil. This study aimed to understand how participation in the Santa Terezinha Foundation capoeira group in Pompey-EC Senator interfere in the construction of identity of adolescents in socially vulnerable. It is a country and qualitative research, as well as descriptive and exploratory, using case study. Data were collected in Santa Terezinha Foundation in Senador Pompeu, from March to May. Made use of questionnaire and semi-structured interviews conducted with 2 teenager’s capoeira group. Content analysis revealed categories like "Capoeira and its personal meaning", "capoeira teacher Meaning" and "Identity and (m) metamorphosis." It was noticed several positive changes in the lives of these subjects, where this article can be effective in targeted intervention practices for this audience, and demonstrate the importance of public policies that encourage the poultry, especially in unfavourable contexts and social vulnerability.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore how culture, including traditions and social structures, can influence resilience and how culturally sensitive relief operations can put affected people and their context at the core of any interventions. Design/methodology/approach A case study of the Mt Sinabung volcano area in Indonesia was undertaken. As part of the case study, an analysis of interventions was conducted, which was complemented by semi-structured interviews with Karo cultural experts and humanitarian organisations. Findings Culture influences the manner in which the Karo people react to volcano eruptions with varying implications for recovery. In addition, relief organisations which understand people’s actions through a cultural lens have better managed to tailor programs with long-term impact, thereby avoiding aid dependency. Practical implications Practical examples of disaster management activities that adequately account for the beneficiaries’ way of living prior to the eruptions are provided. Aid actors are provided with guidance concerning how to better tailor their activities in line with a cultural lens. Originality/value The study provides empirical grounding for claims concerning the role of culture in planning interventions in Indonesia and other similar contexts.

The introduction of Industry 4.0 is expected to revolutionize current maintenance practices by reaching new levels of predictive (detection, diagnosis, and prognosis processes) and prescriptive maintenance analytics. In general, the new maintenance paradigms (predictive and prescriptive) are often difficult to justify because of their multiple inherent trade-offs and hidden systems causalities. The prediction models, in the literature, can be considered as a “black box” that is missing the links between input data, analysis, and final predictions, which makes the industrial adaptability to such models almost impossible. It is also missing enable modeling deterioration based on loading, or considering technical specifications related to detection, diagnosis, and prognosis, which are all decisive for intelligent maintenance purposes. The purpose and scientific contribution of this paper is to present a novel simulation model that enables estimating the lifetime benefits of an industrial asset when an intelligent maintenance management system is utilized as mixed maintenance strategies and the predictive maintenance (PdM) is leveraged into opportunistic intervals. The multi-method simulation modeling approach combining agent-based modeling with system dynamics is applied with a purposefully selected case study to conceptualize and validate the simulation model. Three maintenance strategies (preventive, corrective, and intelligent) and five different scenarios (case study data, manipulated case study data, offshore and onshore reliability data handbook (OREDA) database, physics-based data, and hybrid) are modeled and simulated for a time period of 20 years (175,200 h). Intelligent maintenance is defined as PdM leveraged in opportunistic maintenance intervals. The results clearly demonstrate the possible lifetime benefits of implementing an intelligent maintenance system into the case study as it enhanced the operational availability by 0.268% and reduced corrective maintenance workload by 459 h or 11%. The multi-method simulation model leverages and shows the effect of the physics-based data (deterioration curves), loading profiles, and detection and prediction levels. It is concluded that implementing intelligent maintenance without an effective predictive horizon of the associated PdM and effective frequency of opportunistic maintenance intervals, does not guarantee the gain of its lifetime benefits. Moreover, the case study maintenance data shall be collected in a complete (no missing data) and more accurate manner (use hours instead of date only) and used to continuously upgrade the failure rates and maintenance times.
