Improving the sharing rate of public transportation is an important content for the sustainable development of urban transportation. However, bus bunching, a common phenomenon during transit operation, makes negative effects on reliability and service level of the bus system. In most urban centers in China, many bus lines usually serve in a corridor. Different buses may interact with each other in the corridor, which may aggravate the bus bunching. However, previous studies on bus bunching focused on single bus service. In addition, with the popularization of bus data acquisition and the maturity of data processing methods, the accuracy of bus bunching research meets more opportunities. In this paper, we proposed a holding strategy based on two-bus cooperative control. A simulation was carried out after preliminarily processing and analyzing the bus operation data of Foshan, Guangdong City. In the simulation, we compared the performance of three different scenarios, which are before control strategy, under the strategy for a single bus line and under the coordinated strategy for multiple bus lines. We contrastively analyze the results of the two strategies from different aspects. The results show that in aspects, such as holding a frequency, holding time, the total running time and the influence on the other bus line, the cooperative holding strategy manifests better. It illustrates that it is meaningful to do such a research on the effect of corridor service on bus bunching and add this effect into traditional holding strategy to build a multi-bus cooperative control strategy. The results have important theoretical significance for enriching and completing existing theory and methods of transit system and practical value for improving the service level and attractiveness of buses, increasing the share rate of public transportation, and thus, promoting the sustainable development of cities.

The differences between urban and rural B&Bs should be emphasized, which is critical for the sustainable development of the B&B industry. This study identified and compared the topics that customers were concerned about for urban and rural B&Bs in Beijing by analyzing 13,241 online reviews obtained from the website Ctrip. The results showed that customers focused on 10 common topics: “room”, “location”, “host”, “experience”, “surroundings”, “facilities”, “service”, “design/style”, “value”, and “entertainment”. However, the importance of each topic varied between urban and rural B&Bs. Customers paid more attention to the room. Urban B&B customers were more concerned about location. The convenience of urban B&Bs was more prominent than that of rural B&Bs, especially in terms of public transportation and commercial services. While rural B&B customers were more concerned about experience, service, design/style, and entertainment. In addition, the “host” is the most crucial and influential factor in the development of B&Bs. This study made contributions to customer perceptions of B&Bs from a comparative perspective and enriched the understanding of the characteristics of urban and rural B&Bs. In the part of practice, this study might provide enlightenment for B&B operators and local governments to take measures for B&Bs sustainable development.

Rail transit system and buses are the two main modes of public passenger transportation between adjacent cities in China. The development of public transport system and especially that of the rail transit may promote the sustainable development of the region. According to principle of utility maximization, this paper predicts passengers’ traffic mode choices based on evaluation model of passenger’s general traffic expenses. This paper analyzes the game relation of pricing between Rail Company and Bus Company on the condition of free competition from the perspective of maximizations of profit. It presents the model of public transportation pricing strategy and the model of subsidy policy in two situations respectively, which are when government subsides public transportation and when government does not. This paper provides basis for related administrative departments to make policies on sustainable transport pricing.

Humanity development through education is an important method of sustainable development. This guarantees community development at present time without any negative effects in the future and also provides prosperity for future generations. E-learning is a natural development of the educational tools in this era and current circumstances. Thanks to the rapid development of computer sciences and telecommunication technologies, this has evolved impressively. In spite of facilitating the educational process, this development has also provided a massive amount of learning resources, which makes the task of searching and extracting useful learning resources difficult. Therefore, new tools need to be advanced to facilitate this development. In this paper we present a new algorithm that has the ability to extract the main topics from textual learning resources, link related resources and generate interactive dynamic knowledge graphs. This algorithm accurately and efficiently accomplishes those tasks no matter how big or small the texts are. We used Wikipedia Miner, TextRank, and Gensim within our algorithm. Our algorithm’s accuracy was evaluated against Gensim, largely improving its accuracy. This could be a step towards strengthening self-learning and supporting the sustainable development of communities, and more broadly of humanity, across different generations.

Development of the tourist industry often has negative effects on wildlife and local communities, and so for these values which are most valuable in attracting tourist to a particular place. Low tourist culture of travelling persons can result in a situation in which tourism may threaten the foundations of its existence. The responsible tourism and ecotourism seems to be an answer to this problem by focusing on fostering the sense of responsibility of a traveler towards the visited place. The purpose of this article is to present the concept of ecotourism in theory, and present the results of authors’ survey on the awareness of ecotourism in Poland. The methodology of the research includes review of the relevant literature allowing to present the relationship between sustainable tourism and ecotourism, and to discuss the principles of ecotourism. The awareness of Polish citizens in that sphere was analyzed through the questionnaire survey conducted in 2016. The sampling method used in the survey was a purposeful selection. It becomes a necessity to strive for responsible and sustainable development of the tourism industry and the tourists – to ensure such a development so that we can satisfy a need to travel without picking up future generation such possibility. To achieve this, some actions are needed to preserve natural resources and support local communities – both their economy and culture. Creation of another protected areas and their networks are of far more excitement, conflicts and criticism than innovation and satisfaction resulting from owning nature peculiarities of European importance. Surveys of tourists – although they were not extensive – brought together a fresh look at how to stimulate the sustainable development of tourism by proper eco-politics.

The design and planning of the urban green landscape is manipulated to attain the integrity and sustainability of the process of landscaping the urban green space. Based on the analysis of the problems in landscaping the urban green space, this study attempts to explore the strategies of optimizing the landscape of the urban green space so as to improve the ecological functions of the eco-city, better the layout of the urban planning, and increase the green quantity. Appropriate regulation and protection measures have been adopted to prevent the negative effects in planning the urban green space, guarantee the safety of the urban ecosystem, and maintain the sustainable development of the vegetation sources of the gardens and green lands.

<p><strong>Abstract:</strong> Urban shrinkage has become a global phenomenon, occurring all over the world. Faced with the reduction of population, shrinking cities will continue to lose the vitality of development, and it is difficult to achieve the past glory. How to realize the sustainable development of shrinking cities will become an important issue, which deserves our in-depth study. We will apply big data to analyze the spatiotemporal changes of the population of shrinking cities. Urban shrinkage will lead to a series of chain reactions, reflected in all aspects of social and economic development. Shops are closing down constantly, and there are very few visitors to the commercial streets at night. Industrial enterprises have moved to other places, and urban employment and financial income have declined sharply. The city's economy will face the risk of collapse. Consequently, the lack of maintenance of infrastructure and public service facilities, the decrease of residents' income and the decrease of residents' happiness lead to the lack of cohesion in urban society. The sustainable development of shrinking cities will face great difficulties. Therefore, we must be aware of the seriousness of this problem and take necessary actions to reduce the negative effects of urban shrinkage.</p><p><strong>Key words:</strong> Shrinking cities, sustainable development, society, economy</p>

The United Nations adopted the Agenda 2030 with its core element, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in September 2015. In order to achieve these goals within the coming years, intense efforts are required by all political and societal actors. Although the first definitions of sustainable development referred to the forest sector, the question remains: what contribution can forestry make to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals? Therefore, the direct positive and negative effects of forestry itself on sustainability are analyzed, and it is discussed how sustainable forest management could contribute to achieving other Sustainable Development Goals in addition to SDG 15. This analysis reveals that forestry plays a dual role, i.e., forestry can achieve positive sustainability effects but can also have negative impacts. It is thus recommended to use integrated assessment approaches to analyze whether a specific forest-related policy or strategy is contributing to sustainable development. Beside quantitative integrated assessments, the use of qualitative frameworks like the Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development is proposed. It is also suggested to operationalize the concept of second-order sustainability performance for the forest sector in future research.

The aim of the study was to learn about young people’s judgements on sustainable development and environmental protection depending on their school profile and education. The presentation of their opinions was considered important for assessing the state of sustainable development 30 years after the publication of the Bruntland Report. The perception of the phenomenon of “ecological violence” and the opinions regarding the directions of actions to combat it were also identified. In the authors’ opinion, this concept should be included in the ethical foundations of human behaviour in the 21st century. The research was conducted in 2017 with students of the Faculties of Biology and Agriculture and of Pedagogy at the University of Rzeszow and students of the Faculty of Management at the Rzeszow University of Technology. In order to achieve the study goals, a diagnostic survey using a questionnaire was used. The results indicate that education in sustainable development is not carried out equally in all university institutions. It is often underestimated, although the media clearly emphasise the need to solve current problems in such a way as to minimise the negative effects of sustainability-related decisions made on the economic, social and ecological dimensions of life. All these dimensions are equally important for the welfare of the human species. The results of the study may indicate the directions of activities necessary in education for the sustainable development in the 21st century. In search of effective educational and implementation activities for broadly defined sustainable development, it is also worth presenting, examining and refining the term “ecological violence”. This article touches on the above issue and is a preliminary consideration in this respect. The authors hope that it will lead them and potential readers to a deeper analysis of the possible meaning of the term “violence” also in relation to environmental resources. The presented research results are regarded as preliminary findings for a deeper analysis of this issue in the future.

En apariencia, los primeros análisis de la digitalización y la robotización de la economía parecen coincidir en que tendrá efectos negativos para el empleo: en la medida en que ciertas actividades puedan ser sustituidas totalmente por procesos digitales o por sujetos robotizados, se hace prescindible ya la presencia total o parcial de trabajadores en las empresas. Solo indirectamente se hace referencia a la incidencia de esos nuevos procesos en el estatuto jurídico del trabajador, en las relaciones laborales colectivas y en la revisión de los sistemas de protección social.Desde septiembre 2015 se han activado desde las Naciones Unidas los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS), que pueden ser las nuevas directrices de inspiración para nuevas herramientas de gestionar el cambio, o para nuevos contenidos de herramientas clásicas. La legislación y la negociación colectiva son destinatarias de algunos mandatos (referidos a regulaciones de salarios y demás condiciones decentes, son los ejemplos más inmediatos), de ahí que sea preciso insertar nuevas vías de reflexión en la docencia del Derecho Social 4.0. Al mismo tiempo, los ODS son susceptibles de actuar como acelerantes del aprendizaje, por lo que de estimulantes tienen en el ámbito material del Trabajo Decente y del Desarrollo Sostenible.The first analysis of digitalisation and the robotization of the economy seem to converge in the idea that Revolution 4.o will have negative effects on employment: if certain activities can be completely replaced by digital processes or by robotic subjects, then it is possible that workers in companies are totally o partially replaced. There are just only indirect references to the impact of these new processes on the legal status of the worker, on collective labor relations and on the revision of social protection systems.Since September 2016 the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) have been activated from the United Nations, which may be new inspiration guidelines for new tools to manage change, or for new contents of classic tools. Legislation and collective bargaining are the recipients of some mandates (referring to salary regulations and other decent conditions, are the most immediate examples) hence it is necessary to insert new ways of rethinking the teaching of Social Law 4.0. At the same time, the SDG are likely to act as accelerators at learning processes, so that they are stimulating frameworks in the material scope of Decent Work and Sustainable Development

Urban rail transit (URT) systems are critical to modern public transportation services. Unfortunately, disruptions in URT systems can lead to dysfunction and threaten sustainable development. This study analyses URT network sustainability from a vulnerability perspective. Two network attack scenarios, including random attacks and intentional attacks, are designed to assess different kinds of disruptions to URT networks. Under random attacks, nodes are randomly removed from the network. In contrast, under intentional attacks, key nodes are identified and removed based on topological metrics and passenger flow volume. Then, URT network vulnerability is evaluated by quantifying the changes in network efficiency and structural integrity under the network attacks from a spatio-temporal point of view. The real-world case of the Shanghai URT system from 1993 to 2020 is used to illustrate the vulnerability in the evolution of the URT system. The results indicate that the URT network is increasingly fault-tolerant and structurally robust over time. The URT network is more vulnerable to intentional attacks than to random failures. Additionally, there are significant spatial differences in the vulnerability of Shanghai URT network. Stations in the central activity zone (CAZ) are more fault-tolerant and robust than stations located outside of the CAZ. Furthermore, stations with large centrality and greater passenger flow volumes and lines with many key nodes and greater passenger flow volumes, are vulnerable to disruptions in the URT networks. This study provides a new index to comprehensively quantify node centrality; it also fills a research gap by analysing the vulnerability of URT networks based on both longitudinal and spatial patterns. Finally, this paper highlights significant practical implications for the sustainable development of URT networks, as well as the sustainable development of public transportation services.
