While the rapid development of Chinese manufacturing SMEs has contributed significantly to economic growth, it has also resulted in environmental pollution and resource abuse problems. To resolve these problems, Chinese manufacturing SMEs need to accelerate their implementation of comprehensive green manufacturing (GM); However, this is a complex and arduous task as it involves government, enterprise and societal considerations. Therefore, it is has become imperative to identify Chinese manufacturing SMEs green drivers. Focusing on the current situation in China and using a combination of previous research and expert views, this paper comprehensively examines the development of SMEs in China to deconstruct the green driver dimensions. The identified drivers are then evaluated using a novel hybrid multi-criterion decision-making methods (MCDM), the evaluation criteria weights calculated using fuzzy DEMATEL and fuzzy TOPSIS employed to rank the green drivers. It was found that technology innovation, customer demand, incentives, regulations, supply chain pressure and public pressure were the most significant drivers for the implementation of GM in Chinese manufacturing SMEs. Finally, some managerial implications are given to assist the government, enterprises and the public focus on a few crucial drivers to ensure that the green transformation of Chinese manufacturing SMEs is scientific and efficient.

The problem of handling equipment selection plays a significant role in the total cost of a mining project; so that it can affect the activity and continuity of the project and is a strategic problem. In this study, an integrated model based on two fuzzy multi-criteria decision making techniques for handling equipment selection is proposed. The proposed evaluation model is derived from group decision making, fuzzy set theory, analytical hierarchy process (AHP), and Technique to Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) methods. The fuzzy AHP (FAHP) method is utilized to calculate the relative importance of the evaluation criteria, then, fuzzy TOPSIS (FTOPSIS) is applied for evaluating the feasible handling equipment in order to select the best handling system among a pool of the possible alternatives. The model is applied for a real world case study to demonstrate the capability and effectiveness of the proposed model. To investigate the result sensitiveness to the changes of the criteria weights, a sensitivity analysis is finally conducted.

The aim of this chapter is to determine the best strategy for Turkish deposit banks and rank these banks according to the performance regarding strategy development. Within this scope, four different dimensions and 12 different criteria are selected based on balanced scorecard approach and a modified multi-criteria decision-making model is implemented. By using fuzzy DEMATEL approach, it is determined that the criterion of customer expectation has the highest importance. With the help of fuzzy TOPSIS method, it is also concluded that private and foreign banks are more successful than state banks. Thus, it is recommended that Turkish deposit banks should create their strategies based on customer expectations. Within this framework, the banks firstly conduct a survey for their customers to understand their expectations.

Purpose – At present, financial agglomeration tendency in domestic and foreign countries is increasingly evident. Therefore, from a comparative perspective, this paper aims to assess and predict the financial agglomeration degree in central five cities. Design/methodology/approach – According to the diversity of evaluating indexes and the uncertainty of financial agglomeration, this paper constructs a set of indexes of evaluating the financial agglomeration degree, comprehensively evaluates the financial agglomeration degree of the five cities – Wuhan, Changsha, Zhengzhou, Nanchang and Hefei – in China's middle region from 2001 to 2010 by using the multiple dimension grey fuzzy decision-making model, and predicts their development tendency by using the GM (1, 1, β) model. Findings – The results show that the multiple dimension grey fuzzy decision-making pattern cannot only be used to determine the weights of evaluating indexes, but also get the fuzzy partition and ranking order of the financial agglomeration in central five cities. The grey prediction results can objectively reflect the development tendency of the financial agglomeration in central five cities. Practical implications – From the results, it is necessary for any competitive city to clarify their relative strengths and weaknesses in order for the accurate location and scientific development, and it also provides a reference for the government decision-making. Originality/value – The paper succeeds in using the multiple dimension grey fuzzy decision-making model to measure the financial agglomeration degree of the five central cities and the grey prediction model to predict future trends.

Supplier selection is one of the most important multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problems for decision-makers in the competitive market. Today’s organizations are seeking new ways to reduce the negative effects they have on the environment and to achieve a greener system. Currently, the concept of green supplier selection has gained great importance for its ability to incorporate environmental or green criteria into classical supplier selection practices. Therefore, in this study, a multi-phase MCDM model based on the best-worst method (BWM) and the interval type-2 fuzzy technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (IT2F TOPSIS) is proposed. A case study in a plastic injection molding facility in Turkey was carried out to show the applicability of the proposed integrated methodology. The paper offers insights into decision-making, methodology, and managerial implications. Results of the case study are examined and suggestions for future research are provided.


Using an appropriate methodology is crucial in the analysis. Therefore, the suitable model should be selected according to the type of the evaluation. Otherwise, there is a risk of having inappropriate results. Because of this situation, recommendations can be problematic. In this book, three different analyses are performed. In two of them, fuzzy DEMATEL, fuzzy TOPSIS, and fuzzy VIKOR approaches are taken into consideration. In this chapter, these three methods are explained. In this framework, some studies, which used these methods, are explained.

The methodology used to develop a decision making tool for choosing among candidate projects for a state airport development program is presented. The approach emphasized public involvement and cooperation, using a panel of experts from the aviation community to establish guiding principles, select the analysis procedure, develop evaluation criteria, and choose criteria weights for the new priority-setting model. The panel included airport managers, metropolitan planning organization aviation planners, aviation consultants, and state aviation planners.

Entropy–KEMIRA approach is proposed for criteria ranking and weights determining when solving Multiple Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) problem in human resources selection task. For the first time the method is applied in the case of three groups of criteria. Weights are calculated by solving optimization problem of maximizing the number of elements, which are “best” according to all three criteria, and minimizing the number of “doubtful” elements. The algorithm of problem solution is presented in the paper. The numerical experiment with three groups of evaluation criteria describing 11 life goals was accomplished.

The product concept evaluation plays a very important role in product development. It can be considered as multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) problem. In a MCDM problem, a decision maker has to choose the best alternative that satisfies the evaluation criteria among a set of candidate solutions. This paper introduces a compromise MCDM evaluation model which combines fuzzy DEMATEL and VIKOR methods. The criteria weights are determined based on separate cause-effect assessment of a group of experts using the fuzzy DEMATEL approach. The resulting criteria weights are applied to the decision analysis where the fuzzy VIKOR approach is adopted which determines a compromise solution by using utility weight.
