We report the fatigue behavior of a novel multiscale fiberglass/epoxy composite modified with reduced-graphene oxide (rGO) and graphene nanoplatelets (GNP). A novel and cost-effective fabrication method based on vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) method was used for manufacturing the composite laminates. Morphological and mechanical analysis of composites showed a successful dispersion of nano-fillers and a remarkable improvement in fatigue life of the nanocomposites. The experimental results revealed that all rGO concentrations resulted in a significant increase in fatigue life of the nanocomposites. These enhancements can be explained by the creation of stronger links between the nanoparticles fiberglass and epoxy. The experimental results also showed that lower concentrations of GNPs lead to an increase in fatigue life of nanocomposites; however, a decrease in their fatigue life can be seen at higher loadings.

Abstract Water splitting is considered as a potential sustainable and green technology for producing mass hydrogen and oxygen. A cost-effective self-supported stable electrocatalyst with excellent electrocatalytic performance in a wide pH range is greatly required for water splitting. This work reports on the synthesis and anchoring of Fe1CoxNiyP nanoparticles on vertically aligned reduced graphene oxide array (VrGO) via electroless plating. The catalytic activity of Fe1CoxNiyP nanoparticles is tuned finely by tailoring the cationic ratio of Co and Ni. Fe1Co2Ni1P/VrGO exhibits the lowest overpotential (58 and 110 mV) at 10 mA cm−2 and lowest tafel slope (31 and 33 mV dec−1) for hydrogen evolution reaction in 1.0 M KOH and 0.5 M H2SO4 respectively. Fe1Co1Ni2P/VrGO exhibits the lowest overpotential (173 mV) at 10 mA cm−2 with lowest tafel slope (47 mV dec-1) for oxygen evolution reaction. The enhanced performance of the electrocatalyst is attributed to improved electrical conductivity, synergistic effects and beneficial electronic states caused by the appropriate atomic ratio of Co and Ni in the bifunctional electrocatalyst. This study helps to explore the effect of variable cationic ratio in the cost-effective ternary iron group metal phosphides electrocatalysts to achieve enhanced electrocatalytic performance for water splitting in a wide pH range.

This paper reports the development of simple and economical reduced graphene oxide (rGO) based screen-printed electrodes (SPE) for five basic taste sensing applications. Twenty different test solutions for the five tastes of salty, sour, sweet, umami, and bitter at 1 ppm, 10 ppm, 100 ppm, 1000 ppm concentration levels were tested with the fabricated SPEs. From experimental results, electrical signals generated between the electrode and test solution interface were measured using the potentiometric method. Satisfactory potentiometric responses of SPEs to different ppm concentrations for each sample were used to analyze the sample data. Histogram using the statistical tool was used to analyze the changes in the conductivity response. A multivariate Principal Component Analysis (PCA) statistical tool correlated using loading plots between variables and factors of all the five basic tastes. The plot showed the interrelation between variables and test samples. The obtained experimental results from these rGO based SPEs make them suitable for their use in taste sensing applications such as for any taste disorder disability, food-producing industry, pharmaceutical industries, etc.
