Diffraction waveguides are widely used in augmented reality devices as information display systems for the introduction of data into the human visual field in order to supplement information about the world around us. This paper formulates the principles of radiation conversion in diffraction waveguides made of photo-thermo-refractive glass on the basis of multiplexed volume holographic gratings, and the advantages and disadvantages of high spectral-angular selectivity are analyzed. In the optical scheme, each of the superimposed volume holographic gratings in the diffraction waveguide forms a corresponding part of the composite angular field of view of the augmented reality device. A proposed mathematical model based on angular multiplexing made it possible to synthesize the diffraction optical element for a new type of diffraction waveguide made from photo-thermo-refractive glass and to create a prototype with an angular resolution of at least 3.0 ± 0.5′, with a brightness change in the image of less than 20% and with a composite angular field of view of 32°.

В работе предложена оптическая схема широкоугольного телескопа с полем зрения 3.75 ◦ и апертурой 30 см для космической системы обнаружения декаметровых астероидов (проект СОДА). Основная отличительная особенность телескопа - наличие предапертурного плоского зеркала, обеспечивающего область наведения 50 ◦ × 120 ◦ , время перенаведения между соседними площадками составит не более 3 с. Предложен современный КМОП детектор с мелким пикселем. В работе представлены области обзора телескопов проекта СОДА из точки Лагранжа L 1 при использовании двух, трех и четырех телескопов, кратко обсуждены преимущества и недостатки каждого из вариантов. We propose an optical scheme of a telescope with a field of view of 3.75 ◦ and 30 cm aperture for the space system for observation of decameter size asteroids (the SODA project). The main distinctive feature of this telescope is a pre-aperture flat mirror that provides an observation area of 50 ◦ ×120 ◦ and a repointing time between the adjacent fields of less than 3 s. A modern CMOS detector with a small pixel is proposed. Observable sky area when using 2, 3 and 4 telescopes are described. The advantages and disadvantages of each option are briefly discussed.

This study explores the design, implementation, and evaluation of an Augmented Reality (AR) prototype that assists novice operators in performing procedural tasks in simulator environments. The prototype uses an optical see-through head-mounted display (OST HMD) in conjunction with a simulator display to supplement sequences of interactive visual and attention-guiding cues to the operator’s field of view. We used a 2x2 within-subject design to test two conditions: with/without AR-cues, each condition had a voice assistant and two procedural tasks (preflight and landing). An experiment examined twenty-six novice operators. The results demonstrated that augmented reality had benefits in terms of improved situation awareness and accuracy, however, it yielded longer task completion time by creating a speed-accuracy trade-off effect in favour of accuracy. No significant effect on mental workload is found. The results suggest that augmented reality systems have the potential to be used by a wider audience of operators.

This work proposes a green light-sensitive acrylate-based photopolymer. The effects of the preparation conditions for the waveguide applied volume holographic gratings (VHGs) were experimentally investigated. The optimum preparation conditions for holographic recording were revealed. After optimization, the peak of VHG diffraction efficiency reached 99%, the diffractive wavelength bandwidth increased from 13 nm to 22 nm, and the corresponding RIM was 0.06. To prove the wide application prospect of the acrylate-based photopolymer in head-mounted augmented reality (AR) displays, green monochromatic volume holographic waveguides were fabricated. The display results showed that the prototype was able to achieve a 28° diagonal FOV and possessed a system luminance of 300 cd/m2.

The article concerns the illusory presentation of non-existent architectural objects directly in the place of their original location. This specific conservation method is considered as a tool for disseminating knowledge about the original architectural landscape of places where it has undergone transformations. The authors believe that its implementation may contribute to the growth of the identity of cities and their inhabitants. The concept refers to augmented reality, but the authors use only optical means to create a virtual component, The article presents the results of theoretical analysis and practical experiments, pointing to the advantages and disadvantages of the method.

AbstractGraphene (graphene) is a new type of two-dimensional inorganic nanomaterial developed in recent years. It can be used as an ideal inorganic nanofiller for the preparation of polymer nanocomposites because of its high mechanical strength, excellent electrical conductivity and plentiful availability (from graphite). In this review, the preparation methods of graphene/polymer nanocomposites, including solution blending, melt blending and in situ polymerization, are introduced in order to study the relationship between these methods and the final characteristics and properties. Each method has an influence on the final characteristics and properties of the nanocomposites. The advantages and disadvantages of these methods are discussed. In addition, a variety of nanocomposites with different properties, such as mechanical properties, electronic conductivity, thermal conductivity and thermal properties, are summarized comprehensively. The potential applications of these nanocomposites in conductive materials, electromagnetic shielding materials, photocatalytic materials and so on, are briefly presented. This review demonstrates that polymer/graphene nanocomposites exhibit superior comprehensive performance and will be applied in the fields of new materials and novel devices. Future research directions of the nanocomposites are also presented.

This chapter proposes a comprehensive approach to understand not only how augmented reality and virtual reality operate within the tourism industry, but also how mixed reality can contribute to enhance the visitor experience and how tourism organizations can move beyond traditional communication and physical experiences into a new type of tourism approach that helps them stay relevant in the long term, as well as in the mid-term. Since the tourism industry is amongst the most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, changes are essential to ensure an adequate adaptation to the ‘new normal'. Technology enables various tourist organizations to generate greater value creation and opens possibilities to be able to extend the visit beyond physical presence, to ensure the safety of workers and visitors, to improve processes, and to make them more competitive overall. If this is carried out in collaboration with all stakeholders, one destination can generate a solid network to promote itself and become competitive during travel restrictions and in preparation for a post-pandemic new normal.

This paper briefly surveys pose tracking methods used for augmented reality applications in cultural heritage. The paper primarily benefits scholars and practitioners in the areas of electronic heritage. Pose tracking techniques are categorized as either being dependent or independent of their surrounding; accordingly, various solution methods in the literature are presented along with their advantages and disadvantages. I conclude the paper with a discussion on the open problems in pose tracking in cultural heritage and recommend future directions of research in this field.
