This review is focused on the study of the effects of grape seed and skin extract (GSSE) on human health. GSSE contains high concentrations of important polyphenolic substances with high biological activity. This review is a summary of studies that investigate the effects of GSSE on diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease and cancer, its neuroprotective effect, and its effects on the gastrointestinal tract and other health complications related to these diseases. The results of the studies confirm that the anti-inflammatory, antiapoptotic, and pro-proliferative effects of “Vitis vinifera L.” seed extract reduce the level of oxidative stress and improve the overall lipid metabolism.

As the food industry is interested to recuperate the valuable waste such as beer yeast (Saccharomyces cervisiae) and grape seed (Vitis vinifera), both with high nutritional and health promotion effects, new products and processes are expected to be released on the market. The new modern drying technologies used to process natural compounds and extracts aim a protected evaporation under controlled temperatures and immobilization on matrices, in order to keep high concentrations of bioactive compound in the final products. One of the most important technological parameter during the drying process is the Inlet and Outlet Temperature Using Spray Drying (SD) and Fluid Bed Drying (FBD) optimized technologies we obtained beer yeast (BY) and the grape seed extract (GSE) solid forms, demonstrating that functionality is well preserved (by determination of vitamins B and phenolics, respectively) in the final products comparing with the initial, genuine extracts. Beer yeast and grape seed concentrated forms (stabilized powders and granulated formulas) have emerging consequences in this context and attract the modern consumer for their positive action on health.

  Excessive continuous noises exposure changes the male hormone system which leads to formation of oxidative stress and results in disrupt of semen quality. This condition can be reduced by the use of antioxidants. Grape seed is one of the antioxidants that contains phenol components that have Resveratrol compounds. This research aimed to observe the effect of noise exposure on the number of spermatozoa of male mice given grape seed extract. The method of the research was a post-test only control group design with research subjects of 30 male Mus musculus L. (Swiss Webster) mice divided into 5 groups: group A (treatment control) was not given noise exposure and grape seed extract, group B (negative control) was not given noise exposure and was given grape seed extract, groups C, D, E (treatment group) were given noise exposure with sequential intensities of 65 dB, 85 dB, 105 dB. The treatment was given for 33 days. The results showed that noise exposure with different intensities of 65 dB, 85 dB, 105 dB reduced the spermatozoa count of male Swiss Webster mice even with the administration of grape seed extract. One Way Anova test was used to analyze the data with p-value of 0.001. Conclusion: There were differences in spermatozoa count between the control group and the treatment group. Provision of noise exposure with a value above the threshold limit reduces the number of male Swiss Webster mice spermatozoa given with grape seed extract. Obesity is a public health problem that contributes to morbidity and mortality from diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and cancers. The purpose of this investigation was to analyse the link between obesity-induced oxidative stress, renal steatosis, and kidney dysfunction, as well as the protective effect of grape seed and skin extract. Rats were fed a standard diet or a high-fat diet for 6 weeks and were either treated or not treated with grape seed and skin extract. Fat-induced oxidative stress was evaluated in the kidney with a special emphasis on transition metals. High-fat diet induced triglyceride deposition and disturbances in kidney function parameters, which are linked to an oxidative stress status and depletion of copper from the kidney. Grape seed and skin extract abrogated almost all fat-induced kidney disturbances. Grape seed and skin extract exerted potential protection against fat-induced kidney lipotoxicity and should find potential application in other kidney-related diseases.
