The solvent-free mechanochemical reaction has aroused increasing interest among scientists. Mechanical ball-milling can implement reactions under mild conditions, shorten the reaction time, and improve the reaction efficiency. Particularly, the most attractive characteristic of mechanochemistry is that it can alter the reaction pathway. However, few such examples have been reported so far. In this paper, we report the reaction of aldoximes with NaCl and Oxone under ball-milling conditions to afford N-acyloxyimidoyl chlorides, which are different from those of the liquid-phase counterpart.

A solvent-free mechanochemical reaction of alkylidene oxindoles with enamino esters via an iodine-promoted tandem Michael/cyclization sequence has been developed to provide a variety of spirocyclic oxindoles in moderate to good yields with excellent diastereoselectivities.

AbstractA solvent-free protocol for the production of 1-thioamidoalkyl-2-naphthols via a one-pot multi-component reaction of arylaldehydes with 2-naphthol and thioacetamide using the ionic liquid 1,3-disulfonic acid imidazolium trifluoroacetate ([Dsim][TFA]) is described. Furthermore, a plausible and attractive mechanism based on the dual functionality of the catalyst is proposed. Because of the dual functionality of [Dsim][TFA] (possessing acidic and basic sites), it is found to be generally highly effective, affording the products in high yields and short reaction times under mild conditions. We claim that this is one of the best protocols for the synthesis of 1-thioamidoalkyl-2-naphthols (in terms of yield, temperature, conditions, and/or the reaction time).

This contribution presents two solvent-free reactions of terminal alkynes in ball mills: Pd-catalyzed Sonogashira cross-coupling and Cu-catalyzed homo-coupling (Glaser reaction). The results are compared to other solvent-free reaction protocols, which have been published up to date for those types of reactions. Reactions are assessed on the basis of reaction variables like type of catalyst and base or reaction time. Furthermore, performance-based parameters (yield, selectivity, turnover number, TON, and turnover frequency, TOF) are considered and evaluated. Findings from ball-milling experiments indicate that those processes are comparable to the energy entry by microwave irradiation with respect to reaction time and TOF.

The technology is introduced about mechanical ball milling and liquid phase sintering of machining crumbs of steel based carbide alloy in this article. The materials obtained from machining crumbs of steel-bonded cemented carbide are qualified compared with the conventional steel-bonded cemented carbide materials in the aspects of hardness, wear resistance by using the technology and the process is reasonable and practicable, according to experimental results. It can be extremely important when considering the recycling and make full use of tungsten resources.

Iodination of a series of benzene and thiophene derivatives by potassium dichloroiodate monohydrate was studied with and without a solvent. The liquid substrates tend to be more reactive in water while the solid substrates afford better yields in dichloromethane or under the solvent-free conditions. The 2-substituted thiophenes show good to excellent yields whereas the yield for 3-substituted and 3,4- or 2,4-disubstituted thiophenes and benzene derivatives are significantly lower. The mechanochemical reaction of 5-carbaldehyde-2,2′-bithiophene shows excellent yields, while 2,2′-bithiophene gives practical yields only in dichloromethane. In the case of thiophene and N-acetyl-p-toluidine, electrophilic iodination is accompanied by a small extent of chlorination.

The elimination of volatile organic solvents in organic synthesis is the most important goal in “Green” chemistry. We report a simple, efficient and facile method for the addition of progargyl bromide to carbonyl compounds using Mg metal as a mediator under solvent-free conditions which could regioselectively generate homopropargyl alcohols efficiently in good to excellent yields. The procedure has advantages such as short reaction time, operationally simple, excellent product yields, high regioselectivity and organic solvent-free.
