Starting out from dipotassium 1,5-oligosiloxanylene diide 2, a 3,7,10-trioxa-octasilabicyclo[3.3.3]undecane was prepared, which represents the third known example of this cage structure type. Reaction of 1,3-dichlorotetramethyldisiloxane with 1,1’-bis[bis(trimethylsilyl)potassiosilyl]ferrocene gave a ferrocenophane with a disiloxane containg bridge. The compound can be further derivatized by conversion into a 1,5-oligosilanyl diide. Reacting 1,5-oligosiloxanylene diide 2 with SnCl2 or GeCl2·dioxane in the presence of PMe3 gave cyclic disilylated tetrylene PMe3 adducts. Release of the base-free stannylene led to a dimerization process which gave a bicyclic distannene as the final product. Abstraction of the PMe3 from the cyclic disilylated germylene PMe3 adduct with B(C6F5)3 caused oxidative addition of the germylene into a para-C-F bond of Me3P·B(C6F5)3.

The isotypic ternary compounds Ba3[MoN4] and Ba3[WN4] were prepared by reaction of the transition metals with barium (Ba3N2, resp.) under nitrogen. The crystal structures were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction: Ba3[MoN4] (Ba3[WN4]): Pbca; Z = 8; a = 1083.9(3) pm (1091.8(3) pm), b = 1030.3(3) pm (1037.5(3) pm), c = 1202.9(3) pm (1209.2(4) pm). The structures contain isolated tetrahedral anions [MN4]6- (M = Mo, W) which are arranged in form of slightly distorted hexagonal layers and which are stacked along [010] with the sequence (···AB···). Two of the three Ba atoms are situated between, the third one is placed within the layers of [MN4]-groups. In this way the structures can be derived from the Na3As structure type.

The crystal structures of hydrothermally synthesized aluminium dihydrogen arsenate(V) dihydrogen diarsenate(V), Al(H2AsO4)(H2As2O7), gallium dihydrogen arsenate(V) dihydrogen diarsenate(V), Ga(H2AsO4)(H2As2O7), and diindium bis[dihydrogen arsenate(V)] bis[dihydrogen diarsenate(V)], In2(H2AsO4)2(H2As2O7)2, were determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data collected at room temperature. The first two compounds are representatives of a novel sheet structure type, whereas the third compound crystallizes in a novel framework structure. In all three structures, the basic building units areM3+O6octahedra (M= Al, Ga, In) that are connectedviaone H2AsO4−and two H2As2O72−groups into chains, and furtherviaH2As2O72−groups into layers. In Al/Ga(H2AsO4)(H2As2O7), these layers are interconnected by weak-to-medium–strong hydrogen bonds. In In2(H2AsO4)2(H2As2O7)2, the H2As2O72−groups link the chains in three dimensions, thus creating a framework topology, which is reinforced by weak-to-medium–strong hydrogen bonds. The three title arsenates represent the first compounds containing both H2AsO4−and H2As2O72−groups.

By using a survey interview, two adult populations ( n = 53 and 72) were randomly sampled to determine how common it is for theatrical motion pictures to produce clinically significant stress-type reactions. A special questionnaire was prepared to gather data that would, among other things, determine whether or not a subject had been disturbed by a film and what that person's emotional and behavioral reactions were when they indicated that they were disturbed. There were three hypotheses: (1) At least 25% of individuals in the populations sampled can identify at least one film each that had stimulated a stress-type reaction lasting at least 2 days. (2) Films identified would include movies in addition to The Exorcist and Jaws, the only ones identified in clinical literature as having produced reactions to stress. (3) Graphic violence would be the principal element identified as a stressor in the films. Data from the samples support the first and second hypotheses but do not support the third.

In the literary history poem is considered as the building block of all the existing poetry. It is a well-established fact that poem is the genesis of the poetry in any language and likewise Balochi literature is no more an exception. The very initial evolutionary phases of balochi literature in states other than the poemic one. Balochi literary poems have successfully waded through all its phases of development i.e. from first to second and subsequently from second to the third one. it is worth mentioning over here that cataclysmic changes were brought up in the third phase along with the introduction of a many great new varieties, but the basic conventional methods and norms in poem writing remained unchanged. Gulam Hussain Shohaz is widely accepted as a veteran and god -gifted poet as well as a prolific writer of al times in general, and an iconic poem writing figure of the third phase in particular. as far as poem writing is concerned, his style of poem writing introduces as many as three new and unique methodologies. Furthermore, the best he owes as a poem writer are his traditional Balochi style writings. infect his unflinching efforts helped secure the poem a remarkable position in our literature. Thus it would be unfair with the history to brush aside his valuable services and not to accept him as the best classical poem writer of the third Balochi literary phase.

The chapter examines the main tasks of NGOs and how they are related to the achievement of their missions and to those of the United Nations. The history of NGO links to the Third UN—including an official role in the UN’s constitution, Charter Article 71—as well as the various distinctions between them and other non-state actors provides an essential building block for the book. Detailed cases concern efforts to alleviate the plague of landmines (the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, ICBL), to improve international judicial pursuit (the Coalition for the International Criminal Court, CICC), and to set the agenda for sustainable development (the conversations leading to the formulation and adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs).

Sumerian-Akkadian mythology reaches back to the earliest lists of gods in the third millennium bce and preoccupied the Mesopotamian intellectuals for more than 2000 years. This overview describes four major moments in the earlier phases of that history, each putting in place a different type of cosmic building block: ontologies, infrastructures, genealogies, and interfaces. These four phases stretch from the first mythological narratives in the mid-third millennium down to the late second and first millennium bce, when Mesopotamian materials are reconfigured and adapted for cuneiform scribal traditions in northern Mesopotamia, Syria and the Levant. Rather than limiting ourselves to late, somewhat heterodox recompilations such as the Enuma Elish or the Baal Epic, this contribution argues that the most important and long-lived features of the mythological tradition in Mesopotamia came into existence between 2500 and 1500bce.

Crystals of tricaesium scandium(III) hexachloride were obtained as a side product from the reaction of U, SnCl2, Sc, and S in a CsCl flux at 1073 K. Cs3ScCl6crystallizes in the Rb3YCl6structure type. The asymmetric unit comprises three Cs sites, two Sc sites, and six Cl sites, all of which have site symmetry 1, except for the two Sc sites that have site symmetries of 2 and -1, respectively. The structure is composed of isolated [ScCl6]3−octahedra that are surrounded by Cs+cations. Two Cs+cations have interactions with eight Cl−anions, while the third has interactions with ten Cl−anions.

A recently proposed reaction network induces the classical Gompertz equations. The network consist of two reactions, one reaction for a decaying species $S$ and another reaction for a sigmoidally growing species $X$ which is catalyzed by species S. The proposed reaction network provides for a separation of the dynamical evolutions of the two species inherently present in the Gompertz reaction network. More specifically, the reaction equation for the decaying species S is totally independent on (uncoupled from) the growing species X, while the species X uses species S simultaneously both as a catalyst and as a resource (food). Based on the idea of such a separation, in this work we propose a class of growth-decay models formulated in terms of reaction networks that includes the Bateman exponential decay chain for the evolution of the catalist/resource species. An important advantage of the new class of models is the presence of a prolonged lag time of the sigmoidal solutions of the growing species. In this note we show that the Gompertz-type reaction network can be generalized into a class of Gompertzian-type growth-decay models by replacing the first species from the Bateman exponential decay chain by the second species in the chain, that now can play the role of a catalyst/resource for the growing species. A further generalization would be to use the third species (or the k-th species) in the Bateman decay chain as a catalyst/resource for the growing species.

Microindentation using a hard indentor is a very useful tool to probe the local mechanical properties (plastic flow, fracture, toughness, creep, etc.) of hard solids. We have used a depth sensitive indentation (DSI) version of this technique to study the shell of the conch Strombus gigas.In particular, we prepared polished sections in which the third order lamellae, the basic building block of the structure, could be indented along the three orthogonal directions; the indentation behavior along these three directions is quite different. Besides the normal information such as the hardness H from some typical dimension (typically the diameter of a pyramid-shaped indentation produced by a so-called Vickers diamond indenter) after indenting with a given load, the DSI technique also provides much additional information available from the loading and unloading curves. As can be seen from Fig. 1, the loading and unloading curves for the three orientations are quite different, as is the depth of the residual impression.

High-pressure/high-temperature conditions of 8 GPa and 1000°C were used to synthesizethe new rare earth oxoborates RE4B6O15 (RE = Dy, Ho) in a Walker-type multianvil apparatus.The single crystal X-ray structure determination of Ho4B6O15 revealed the followingdata: C2/c, a = 1164.1(1), b = 436.7(1), c = 1882.5(1) pm, β = 96.71(1)°, Z = 4, R1 = 0.0291, wR2 = 0.0505 (all data). The two isotypic compounds exhibit a new structure type built up from corrugated layers of BO4 tetrahedra. In contrast to all known oxoborates the linkingof the BO4 tetrahedra is partially realized via common edges. Regarding the “fundamentalbuilding block”-concept, we introduce a new descriptor “” for edge-sharing BO4 tetrahedra.Temperature-resolved in situ powder diffraction measurements and IR/Raman-spectroscopicinvestigations on Dy4B6O15 are also reported.
