Fluid inclusions in halite are widely used in research to determine the conditions of sedimentation in salt basins and reconstruct the chemical composition of seawater during a specific geological period. However, previous preliminary studies of the genetic types of inclusions, considered in the present research project, have not received due attention. Consequently, we decided to take into account the main distinguishing features of fluid inclusions in halite, belonging to various genetic types. The ultramicrochemical analysis (UMCA) method is one of the several methods that are used for the quantitative determination of the chemical composition of the primary fluid inclusions in halite. We have upgraded that technique, and that allowed us to reduce the analytical error rates of each component determination. The error rates were calculated in the study of Ca-rich and SO4-rich types of natural sedimentary brines.

Origin and chemical composition of fluids of hydrothermal ore veins at historical deposit Zlatý důl near Hlubočky (Lower Carboniferous of the Nízký Jeseník Upland) were studied using petrography, microthermometry and crush-leach analysis of fluid inclusions and analysis of stable isotopes of oxygen and carbon in carbonates, oxygen in quartz and sulphur in sulphides. Studied mineralization has epithermal and partly mesothermal character (Th = < 50 to 293 °C). The H2O-NaCl-CaCl2 system is mostly enclosed in the primary fluid inclusions in minerals of post-Variscan ore veins. These fluids had low to medium homogenization temperatures (68 to 293 °C) and moderate to high salinities (19–27 wt. % NaCl eq.). In contrast, low to moderate salinity (0–10 wt. % NaCl eq.) fluids of the system H2O-NaCl-KCl-(MgCl2-FeCl2) with low homogenization temperatures (< 50 to 110 °C) were enclosed in secondary fluid inclusions. The main source of water was probably evaporated seawater for older fluids. The source of carbon was in carbon of the homogenized Earth’s crust and partly in carbon of organic matter. Meteoric water is the main source for younger fluids. Origin of sulphur of sulphides is in the surrounding Lower Carboniferous sediments (shales). The high content of SO4 in fluids hosted by Fe-rich dolomite suggests the origin of the fluids in the evaporated Permian basins. Studied older quartz-galena vein is probably Variscan in age. Genetically similar mineralization can be found also at other localities in the Moravo-Silesian Lower Carboniferous (Culm, siliciclastics of the Lower Carboniferous age).

ABSTRACT An improved method for the determination of serum triiodothyronine (T3) has been developed. After addition of a tracer amount of the hormone, T3 was extracted from 1 ml serum under conditions of pH and ionic strength which favoured T3 extraction (89%) over thyroxine (T4) extraction (58%). Chromatography of the extracted material on Sephadex LH-20 separated T3 completely from residual T4. The T3 eluate was dried, then re-dissolved in 0.5 ml NaOH 0.04 n. To 0.2 ml duplicate aliquots, a standard amount of TBG was added for the competitive protein analysis. After one hour incubation at 4°C, separation of bound from free T3 was achieved on small Sephadex G-25 columns. Overall recovery was 67 ± 10.8% and correction for the loss was made. The solvent blank was 37 ± 27 (sd) ng/100 ml. Accuracy of measurement of known quantities of T3 added to serum was 98.4%. The coefficient of variation within the assay was 6.2% and between the assays it was 11.4%. The limit of detection (0.1 ng) corresponded to a concentration of 25 ng/100 ml. T4 added to serum did not interfere with T3 determination until high non-physiological values were reached. The mean ± sd serum T3 in 54 euthyroid subjects was 153 ± 58 ng/100 ml and in 24 hyperthyroid patients it was 428 ±186 ng/100 ml; 4 out of the 24 hyperthyroid values were within 2 sd of the mean euthyroid group. All the values found in the euthyroid group were well above the limit of detection of the method.

An attempt was made to prepare well-defined graft copolymers by the coupling reaction between acyl chloride groups located along the backbone chain and monohydroxy-terminated grafts prepared separately. The molecular weights and the parameters of heterogeneity in chemical composition of the products were determined by light scattering and osmometry. The determination of molecular characteristics revealed that the degree of grafting was low. The results therefore could not be confronted with a statistical model at this stage. The problems encountered in the synthesis, e.g., gel formation, and the data relating to the soluble products are discussed.

Currently, fluid inclusions in halite have been frequently studied for the purpose of paleoclimate reconstruction. For example, to determine the air temperature in the Middle Miocene (Badenian), we examine single-phase primary fluid inclusions of the bottom halites (chevron and full-faceted) and near-surface (cumulate) halites collected from the salt-bearing deposits of the Carpathian region. Our analyses showed that the temperatures of near-bottom brines varied in ranges from 19.5 to 22.0 °C and 24.0 to 26.0 °C, while the temperatures of the surface brines ranged from 34.0 to 36.0 °C. Based on these data, such as an earlier study of lithology and sedimentary structures of the Badenian rock salts, the crystallization of bottom halite developed in the basin from concentrated and cooled near-surface brines of about 30 m depth. Our results comply with the data on the temperature distribution in the modern Dead Sea.

.The paper present aspects about the obtaining of non-precious dental alloys (type CoCrMo and CoCrMoSi7), the determination of chemical composition by optical emission spectrometry and the experimental tests for determining the tensile strength, made on standard plate samples. The base material used in experiments was a commercial alloy, from CoCrMo system, which belongs to the class of dental non-precious alloys, intended to medical applications. The obtaining of studied alloy was made on arc re-melting installation, under vacuum, type MRF ABJ 900. The process followed to realize a rapid melting, with a maximum admissible current intensity. The samples for tests were obtained by casting in an electric arc furnace, under vacuum, in optimal conditions for melting and solidification and processing by electro-erosion, to eliminate all the disturbing factors which come by processing conditions for the samples. The determination of chemical composition for cobalt based alloys, by optical emission spectrometry, was made on SpectromaxX equipment with spark. The electrical discharge is made with the elimination of an energy quantity, fact which determine plasma forming and light issue. Tensile tests for standard samples, made from cobalt based alloy, was made on Instron 3382 testing machine, and assisted by computer. The obtained results are: elongation, elasticity modulus, tensile strength and offer complete information about the analyzed mechanical properties. For the certitude of obtained experimental results, the tests were made on samples with specific dimensions according ISO 6892-1:2009(E) standard, both for the tensile strength, and also machine operation.
