In this paper, we use the analytic methods, the properties of the fourth-order characters, and the estimate for character sums to study the computational problems of one kind of special quartic residues modulo p, and give an exact calculation formula and asymptotic formula for their counting functions.

The main purpose of this paper is using the properties of the classical Gauss sums and the analytic methods to study the computational problem of one kind of hybrid power mean involving the character sums of polynomials with k variables and the two-term exponential sums, and give an identity and asymptotic formula for it.

AbstractAn integer is said to be y–friable if its greatest prime factor is less than y. In this paper, we obtain estimates for exponential sums over y–friable numbers up to x which are non–trivial when y ≥ . As a consequence, we obtain an asymptotic formula for the number of y-friable solutions to the equation a + b = c which is valid unconditionally under the same assumption. We use a contour integration argument based on the saddle point method, as developped in the context of friable numbers by Hildebrand and Tenenbaum, and used by Lagarias, Soundararajan and Harper to study exponential and character sums over friable numbers.

In this paper, we give some interesting identities and asymptotic formulas for one kind of counting function, by studying the computational problems involving the symmetry sums of one kind quadratic residues and quadratic non-residues mod p . The main methods we used are the properties of the Legendre’s symbol mod p , and the estimate for character sums. As application, we solve two open problems proposed by Zhiwei Sun.

SynopsisThis paper considers the asymptotic form, as λ tends to infinity in sectors omitting the real axis, of the matrix Titchmarsh-Weyl coefficient M(λ) for the fourth order equation y(4) + q(x)y = λy, where q(x) is real and locally absolutely integrable. By letting M0(λ) denote the m-coefficient for the Fourier case y(4) = λy, the asymptotic formula M(λ) = M0(λ) + 0(1) is established.

Abstract Let p be an odd prime with p ≡ 1 mod 4, k be any positive integer, ψ be any fourth-order character mod p. In this paper, we use the analytic method and the properties of character sums mod p to study the computational problem of G(k, p) = τk(ψ)+τk(ψ), and give an interesting fourth-order linear recurrence formula for it, where τ(ψ) denotes the classical Gauss sums.

In this article, our main purpose is to introduce a new and generalized quadratic Gauss sum. By using analytic methods, the properties of classical Gauss sums, and character sums, we consider the calculating problem of its fourth power mean and give two interesting computational formulae for it.

<p>In this article, we use the elementary methods and the estimate for character sums to study a problem related to quadratic residues and the Pythagorean triples, and prove the following result. Let $ p $ be an odd prime large enough. Then for any positive number $ 0 &lt; \epsilon &lt; 1 $, there must exist three quadratic residues $ x, \ y $ and $ z $ modulo $ p $ with $ 1\leq x, \ y, \ z\leq p^{1+\epsilon} $ such that the equation $ x^2+y^2 = z^2 $.</p>
