Background: At present, new technologies provide numerous benefits in their correct use, while the need arises to study the consumption of some technologies, in this case, videogames, due to the negative consequences that they can cause in those subjects who have not yet consolidated their personality due to their excessive use. The study aimed to determine and establish associations between the dimensions of self-concept and the problematic use of videogames and their gender differences. Methods: A total of 525 university students participated in this study, representing 44.7% of the male gender and 55.3% of the female gender, with an average age of M = 20.80 SD = 3.12 years old. The instruments used were the CESR and AF-5 questionnaires. Results: The results reveal the association (p ≤ 0.05) between the problematic use of videogames and the dimensions of self-concept, showing that students with severe or potential problems have lower levels of self-concept. In addition, it has been found that men have more problems associated with the use of video games than women. Men have a greater physical and emotional self-concept, while women have better social self-concept. Conclusions: This study highlights the inverse association between self-concept and problematic use of video games, a fact that shows the need to develop intervention programs aimed at improving self-concept and to reduce the problematic use of video games. Likewise, the levels of self-concept reveal that men have higher scores in the emotional and physical dimension, while women stand out in the social dimension.

The challenge of convergence has become a core issue in the European agenda, as the existence of widely accepted administrative standards represents one of the most important preconditions to promote sociopolitical development and to reinforce the single Market. Indeed many initiatives have been launched by European institutions to ensure uniformity in terms of administrative action and structures, and several communications by the European Commission have considered the impact of new technologies in creating systems of integrated and interoperable administration in the Old Continent. In this chapter it will be investigated the role of communication and information technologies in the formation of an European administrative space, the process for which administrations become more similar and close to a common European model. The contribution will consider ICTs as a key element of Europe’s economic competitiveness agenda as well as the interconnection between e-government programs and the social dimension of development. In addition to this, in the final part of the chapter it will be also analyzed the nature and implications of the process of uniformity produced by the new digital infrastructures, a peculiar mix of attractiveness and imposition.

The present study probes the development of a social self-concept in relation to and as seen by others. Infants aged 16 to 26 months (n=102) saw their parent wearing a sticker on their forehead or cheek, placed unwitnessed by the child. Infants then received a sticker themselves, and their spontaneous behavior was coded. Regardless of age, infants preferentially placed the sticker on the location on their own face matching their parent’s placement (Fischer’s exact test, Cramer’s V = .69). This shows that infants as young as 16 months of age have an internal map of their face in relation to others. Their active intervention to bring about a matching state on themselves may reflect a social, evaluative self-concept.

IntroductionMental illness stigma existed long before psychiatry, although sometimes the institution of psychiatry has not helped enough in reducing either stereotyping or discriminatory practices. Stigma of mental illness involves problems with knowledge, attitudes, and behavior and has important negative consequences for patients and their families. As new technologies become more reliable and accessible, mental health specialists are developing new and innovative methods through which they may provide services. Internet has an important role in the delivery of information because of its ability to reach a large number of people in a cost-effective manner.ObjectivesIn order to reduce stigma an online platform with relevant information about schizophrenia was developed. Simultaneously a social media campaign to increase awareness was launched.MethodsA multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, web-developers, IT specialists and designers developed the platform www.schizophrenia.ro. The platform is intended to be simple and with a great visual impact and it gathers general information about schizophrenia. The social media campaign used emotional messages like “Diagnosis is not the end of the road” or “I’m a person not a diagnosis” combined with high impact images.ResultsFrom 1st January to end of September 2015 the platform had about 22,500 users and about 70,500 page views. The social media campaign had a reach of approximately 9700 people in just 2 months.ConclusionsThe World Wide Web is increasingly recognized as a powerful tool for prevention and intervention programs and could also play an important role in destigmatization campaigns.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

In this study my approach is the dispute and the structure of political correctness in terms of sociological questions, as follows. 1. Why this apparently centered in creative output on achieving social change through the gaming industry? 2. How are we to comprehend the association among the chaos of inequality in the gaming industry and putting character disfigurement (gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation)? 3. How do we connect globalization - political correctness to video games? The study conclude with a discussion and tactics for contesting critiques.

This study aimed to predict social self-concept through parenting styles as perceived by students in grades (6-10) of the basic education in the Sultanate of Oman. The sample included 509 students randomly selected from different school districts. The participants responded to the social selfconcept questionnaire and the parenting authority questionnaire. The results indicated that the sample had high levels of social self-concept and parenting styles, except for the permissive style of father and mother. The authoritative style emerged as the most recognizable style among the students. Statistically significant gender differences were found in the level of the social selfconcept in favor of females, and in the parenting styles in favor of males. In addition, there were no statistically significant differences in both variables based on students’ school grades. Multiple Regression analyses revealed that the social self-concept could be significantly predicted by two parenting styles (father authoritative style, mother authoritative style) after controlling for sex effect.

Introduction: The excessive use of videogames has increased dramatically, especially among 10-to-19-year-old males. Many teenagers lose control over video games, which may have negative consequences such as pathological, problematic, or addictive gaming. Objectives: Knowing the existing scientific production about the problematic use of video games and video games addiction in teenagers.Methodology: Documents found after a bibliographic search in the databases COCHRANE, MEDLINE, LILACS, CINAHL and CUIDEN have been analyzed. Results: It has been defined the predictive factors, the prevalence, the characteristics, the validated questionnaires, the associations with other addictions, the relations with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder), and prevention of problematic use and addiction to video games. Conclusions: There are inconsistencies in the results due to the transversal design of most of the studies, such as small samples, the absence of clinical or randomized samples, data extraction with self-reporting questionnaires conducted in schools, without taking into account adolescents hospitalized into mental health centers or hospitals, the gender bias in research and the lack of standardization of diagnostic criteria. The least studied subject is the treatment and prevention, the most important for nursing profession, so the future main line of research would be in this area.
