The purpose of this article is to present an analysis to identify the reasoning processes and representations that preschool students develop about sound based on the inferential-representational approach. Participants were 18 preschool students between the ages of four and five attending three rural schools located in the Sierra Norte of Puebla, Mexico. Data were obtained through a 14 question semi-structured interview. From children’s answers to the formulated questions, an inferential analysis method was applied to identify intentionality, representation elements, sign-material expressions, representations, inferences, and coordination rules in students’ constructions. The results show that children build a basic set of epistemic tools to give meaning to their interpretations and can use them as surrogate reasoning to make inferences. This research constitutes the first approximation toward the understanding of preschool children’s reasoning forms with an inferential-representational approach and constitutes a new approach that puts forward new referents to analyze students of different ages. We consider that the described results and analysis have implications on science education at this educational level.

As the COVID-19 epidemic caused new requirements in education, the use of various technologies and materials in science education has gained more importance for sustainability. Among other objectives, the subject of science aims to help students gain skills such as identifying problems, doing research, forming hypotheses, completing experiments, conducting analyses, and reporting the findings. Some of the problems experienced in science education are caused by the lack of tools and equipment. Through augmented reality (AR), a developing technology that is also used in the field of education, a digital layer is superimposed over authentic world images. The main aim of this study is to determine the views of students and teachers regarding augmented reality content developed for science education. The study group consists of 80 seventh-grade students and 4 science teachers. The study adopted a qualitative data collection method so the researchers developed and used semi-structured interview forms for the students and the teachers during the interviews. Both the students and the teachers reported the positive effects of AR practices on improving the understanding of science topics, offering a visual topic introduction, and contributing to the in-class interaction during class hours.

The current report presents the development and application of a novel methodological approach for computer-based methods of processing and analysis of proliferative tissues labeled by ABC-peroxidase method using 3, 3′-diaminobenzidine (DAB) as chromogen. This semiautomatic method is proposed to replace the classical manual approach, widely accepted as gold standard. Our method is based on a visual analysis of the microscopy image features from which a computational model is built to generate synthetic images which are used to evaluate and validate the methods of image processing and analysis. The evaluation allows knowing whether the computational methods applied are affected by the change of the image characteristics. Validation allows determining the method’s reliability and analyzing the concordance between the proposed method and a gold standard one. Additional strongness of this new approach is that it may be a framework adaptable to other studies made on any kind of microscopy.

Linguistic knowledge plays an important role in phrase movement in statistical machine translation. To efficiently incorporate linguistic knowledge into phrase reordering, we propose a new approach: Linguistically Annotated Reordering (LAR). In LAR, we build hard hierarchical skeletons and inject soft linguistic knowledge from source parse trees to nodes of hard skeletons during translation. The experimental results on large-scale training data show that LAR is comparable to boundary word-based reordering (BWR) (Xiong, Liu, and Lin 2006), which is a very competitive lexicalized reordering approach. When combined with BWR, LAR provides complementary information for phrase reordering, which collectively improves the BLEU score significantly. To further understand the contribution of linguistic knowledge in LAR to phrase reordering, we introduce a syntax-based analysis method to automatically detect constituent movement in both reference and system translations, and summarize syntactic reordering patterns that are captured by reordering models. With the proposed analysis method, we conduct a comparative analysis that not only provides the insight into how linguistic knowledge affects phrase movement but also reveals new challenges in phrase reordering.

The assessment of tourist destination images should not only be the arrangement of multiple influencing factors. This study explores the complex causal relationship for tourist destination images based on a configuration perspective to enhance the overall tourism image using the fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis method. The configurational paths for promoting tourism image can be categorized into two types and nine configurations in Shandong Province. Therefore, this study recommends augmenting the tourism image of the entire region with the logical thinking of “segmentation–integration” and “enhancing strengths–supplementing weakness” and finally realizing a sustainable tourist destination image.

Nowadays we can see the decrease of interest of youth to natural sciences and, accordingly, the low level of natural science knowledge. The modern problem of the theory and the prac-tice of the learning in the schools is the problem of the formation of the competences. The investigators of this problem define various competences. According to the new approach to the content of the natural science education it is necessary to reconsider the process of teaching. One of possible ways is the teaching on the integrative base. The integrated teaching is based on interaction of aim, content, methods, forms and results of the teaching process. The substance of the integrated teaching consists of the necessity to unite the educational subjects of different cycles: natural science, humanitarian and art-aesthetic. It is explained so that in the contents of primary (elementary) education there are different aspects of study of the environment through subjects of a natural science, humanitarian and art – aesthetic cycle. The integrated lesson is a form of realization of the integrated teaching. The teachers of pri-mary schools of Lithuania organize the new form of the integrated teaching. It is the integrat-ed day and integrated week. The journal “Natural Science Education” invites the scientists and teachers to take part in discussion of problems of natural science education. Key words: natural science education, integrative approach, teaching process, interest in science.

This study aims to analyze as well to investigate the phenomenon of teaching English online during the re-emerging pandemic situation forcing the teaching learning process to be re-implemented online. In this case, every layer of educational level can’t fail to be affected by the cataclysmic event, which is highlighted in this study. This turnout of event made the course of learning to be challenging not only for students who undergone the process, but also teachers who maintain the conduciveness of the classroom. Perspective from educators are considered required elements since the on-going process of knowledge transfer is at stake. The subjects were 10 cross-level English teachers situated in Java and Sumatera. Qualitative approach utilizing semi-structured interview method in obtaining the necessitated data was chosen as the best method and approach in the study. The participants mainly agreed with the online learning system, though they faced challenges like limited subsidiary quotas, students’ poor condition, students’ misbehavior and lack of better equipments. Besides various approaches and solution in facing the challenges, it was also known that writing was considered the most challenging to teach among the four basic skills.

SummaryThe general technique for rendering approximate solutions to physical problems uniformly valid is here applied to the simplest form of the problem of correcting the theory of thin wings near a rounded leading edge. The flow investigated is two-dimensional, irrotational and incompressible, and therefore the results do not materially add to our already extensive knowledge of this subject, but the method, which is here satisfactorily checked against this knowledge, shows promise of extension to three-dimensional, and compressible, flow problems.The conclusion, in the problem studied here, is that the velocity field obtained by a straightforward expansion in powers of the disturbances, up to and including either the first or the second power, with coefficients functions of co-ordinates such that the leading edge is at the origin and the aerofoil chord is one of the axes, may be rendered a valid first approximation near the leading edge, as well as a valid first or second approximation away from it, if the whole field is shifted downstream parallel to the chord for a distance of half the leading edge radius of curvature ρL.   The objective was to know the perception of the caregiver about the learning needs of care to be performed at home. This is an exploratory descriptive research, with a qualitative approach. Data collection occurred through a semi-structured interview, from August to October 2014, with six caregivers of patients hospitalized in a medium-sized hospital in the municipality of Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul State. The data were analyzed by the content analysis method, identifying two categories: The caregiver's perception about the learning needs; The attendance of the caregiver's learning needs. The study showed that the learning based on empirical, instinctive and observational methodologies, without the participation of the nurse in the process. There is need to improve this learning. The participation of the nurse as an educator in the planning, organization and development of the educational action stands out, since he/she is part of the care; however, the caregivers did not visualize this professional.

The paper aims at presenting the FMEA method based on the fuzzy technique, representing a new approach to the failure analysis and its effects on the observed system. The FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) method has assigned the risks a coefficient i.e. a numerical indicator that very clearly defines the degree of risk. The risk is calculated as a mathematical function of RPN which depends on the effects S, probability O that some case will lead to a failure and to a probability that a failure D can not be detected before its effects are realized. RPN = S O D. The FMEA method, based on the fuzzy logic, makes a more reliable evaluation of the observed system failures possible.
