This is an overview of the houses in southern Portugal, at the final stages of the Islamic period, using Mértola as the case study. Recent archaeological works, performed in different places, give us information on the houses’ organization, as well on the daily life of the population. Alimentary habits have been disclosed through a series of analyses.

Beginning in the early 1970s, Jewish and Muslim feminists, tackled “oral law”—Mishna and Talmud, in Judaism, and the parallel Hadith and Fiqh in Islam, and several analogous methodologies were devised. A parallel case study of maintenance and rebellion of wives —mezonoteha, moredet al ba?ala; nafaqa al-mar?a and nush?z—in classical Jewish and Islamic oral law demonstrates similarities in content and discourse. Differences between the two, however, were found in the application of oral law to daily life, as reflected in “responsa”—piskei halacha and fatwas. In modern times, as the state became more involved in regulating maintenance and disobedience, and Jewish law was backed for the first time in history by a state, state policy and implementation were influenced by the political system and socioeconomic circumstances of the country. Despite their similar origin in oral law, maintenance and rebellion have divergent relevance to modern Jews and Muslims.

AbstractThe aim of this paper is to develop a systematic approach to understanding daily life at Late Palaeolithic camps and identifying its impact on broader site formation processes. Late Palaeolithic contexts are often poorly preserved, especially those found in the sandy sediments of the North European Plain. However, taphonomic obstacles may be overcome through the introduction of spatial statistics into research procedures. We illustrate our approach using a case study of Federmesser and Swiderian campsites at the site of Lubrza 10, Western Poland. The locational analysis of hearths, features that constitute the most important integrative social foci of Palaeolithic camps, provides information on activity areas, seasonality and occupational duration. Additionally, we examine the function of spatially distinct artefact concentrations and their methods of aggregation. The presented research procedure enables us to trace the contribution of individuals to group behaviour, as well as specific individual activities at both camps.

Abstract Because of the unique set of sources available, the Fayyum in Middle Egypt offers a unique case study of large-scale irrigation from antiquity to the Islamic period. A close reading of a cadastral survey of the province from 641/1243-4 shows that the distinctive aspect of the Islamic period was the local control of water supply and management. Drawing on the engineering experience of the villagers, water allocation and management in the gravity-fed canals of the Fayyum were in the hands of iqṭāʿ holders and tribal groups along the main canals, a pattern similar to that which pertained in mediaeval al-Andalus.

Komunitas anak punk semakin lama semakin banyak. Dengan berbagai latar belakang dan memiliki ideologi yang sama dengan teman lainnya. Pada kenyataannya,keberadaan anak punk tidak sepenuhnya dapat diterima di masyarakat. Masyarakat menilai mereka dengan pandangan yang negatif. Dalam pandangan masyarakat, komunitas punk memang memiliki perilaku  menyimpang, identik dengan label negatif yang mengedepankan gaya, trend, dan fashion. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui gambaran komunitas anak punk di daerah X Kota Batam.         Hasil penelitian ini bahwa anak punk di daerah X memilih untuk menjadi anak punk bukan karena terpaksa atau sekedar ikut-ikutan saja. Bagi anak punk di daerah X menyikapi hidup mereka dengan tidak tergantung kepada orang lain (lebih mandiri). Dimana, disaat anak-anak muda yang lain lebih memilih diskotik atau tempat hiburan lainnya. Anak punk di daerah X memilih jalanan sebagai tempat mereka berbaur bersama dengan teman-teman anak punk lainnya dalam kesehariannya. Kata Kunci: Kasus, Komunitas Anak Punk, dan Daerah BatamCommunity punk gradually becoming more common. With a variety of backgrounds and have the same ideology with other friends. In fact, the existence of punk kids are not fully accepted in society. People consider those with a negative view. In the view of the public, the punk community does have a deviant behavior, synonymous with a negative label that emphasizes style, trend and fashion. The purpose of this study is to describe the punk community in the X area of Batam. The results of this study that the punks in the X chose to become a child of punk is not out of necessity or just went along with it. For children of punk in the X addressing their lives by not depend on others (more independent). Where, when young people others prefer a discotheque or other entertainment venues. Punk in the X choose the streets as where they mingle with their friends more punk in their daily life. Keywords: Case, Punk Community, and Batam Area

This research aims to explore the secondary school sixth and seventh graders’ length measuring estimation skills developing activities related to the daily life objects. The study is in a qualitative multiple case study model. The universe of the research consisted of the sixth and seventh graders. The sample of the research consisted of 85 students, who were studying at a secondary school in sixth and seventh classes in 2 (two) state schools determined with the purposive sampling method in the 2018-2019 educational year. The maximum variety was ensured for the class level, gender, and mathematics achievement scores; voluntariness for the easily accessible situation. The data were obtained with the scales and semi-structured interview forms prepared during the research process and analyzed descriptively. The research results suggest that the length measuring estimation skills of the secondary school sixth and seventh graders relevant to the daily life objects can be developed with the activities that will develop the students’ prior knowledge and skills.

Objetivo: conhecer a imagem do enfermeiro frente ao acadêmico de enfermagem. Metodologia: estudo de caso qualitativo fundamentado na Sociologia Compreensiva do Cotidiano, realizado com 26 participantes do 9º período de uma instituição de ensino superior. Os dados foram coletados por meio da entrevista individual e analisados segundo Análise de Conteúdo Temática. Resultados: a imagem se postula em um profissional essencial na área da saúde, que organiza o setor, gerencia ações, lidera a equipe, presta assistência aos pacientes e é referência para outros profissionais. This article reveals the life of the Holy Trinity Bernardine nuns in Kaunas (Kowno) in the years 1842 to 1864, the worsening situation at the convent due to the Russian occupying government’s policy, the actual closure of the convent, and the fate of the nuns after the closure of their home. The study aims to show how daily life at the convent affected the Russian administration’s decisions regarding its material provision and particular nuns living there, how they were affected by the closure of St George’s Bernardine Friary in Kaunas which used to be the main supporter of the Bernardine nuns, and relations between the Bernardine nuns and the bishop. The author analyses difficulties in community life and problems adhering to the constitution, and reveals the general mood of the nuns. The research is based on correspondence between the Bernardine nuns, the bishop and the convent visitator, memoirs, and material from visitations. This case study of the Kaunas Bernardine nuns helps us gain a better understanding of the situation of the Catholic Church in the Russian Empire.

This article explores ‘dialectical design dialogues’ as an approach to engage with ethics in everyday urban planning contexts. It starts from Paulo Freire’s pedagogical view (1970/2017), in which dialogues imply the establishment of a horizontal relation between professionals and amateurs, in order to understand, question and imagine things in everyday reality, in this case, urban transformations, applied to participatory planning and enriched through David Harvey’s (2000, 2009) dialectical approach. A dialectical approach to design dialogues acknowledges and renegotiates contrasts and convergences of ethical concerns specific to the reality of concrete daily life, rather than artificially presenting daily life as made of consensus or homogeneity. The article analyses an atlas as a tool to facilitate dialectical design dialogues in a case study of a low-density residential neighbourhood in the city of Genk, Belgium. It sees the production of the atlas as a collective endeavour during which planners, authorities and citizens reflect on possible futures starting from a confrontation of competing uses and perspectives of neighbourhood spaces. The article contributes to the state-of-the-art in participatory urban planning in two ways: (1) by reframing the theoretical discussion on ethics by arguing that not only the verbal discourses around designerly atlas techniques but also the techniques themselves can support urban planners in dealing more consciously with ethics (accountability, morality and authorship) throughout urban planning processes, (2) by offering a concrete practice-based example of producing an atlas that supports the participatory articulation and negotiation of dialectical inquiry of ethics through dialogues in a ‘real-time’ urban planning process.
